Beto O'Rourke confronts Gov. Greg Abbott; Gets Cussed Out By Uvalde Mayor

Texas Democrat Beto O'Rourke confronted Gov. Greg Abbott at a press conference on Wednesday, accusing the governor of inaction on gun violence in the wake of a mass shooting at an elementary school that left 19 children and two teachers dead.

Abbott, flanked by law enforcement officers and fellow Republican lawmakers, had just wrapped up giving an update on the Uvalde, Texas, shooting Wednesday afternoon — in which he said mental health was the root cause of the deadly event — when O'Rourke approached the stage.

“Governor Abbott, I have to say something,” O’Rourke, who is running for the Democratic nomination to challenge Abbott in November’s midterm elections, said. “The time to stop the next shooting is right now and you are doing nothing.”

The totality of O’Rourke’s remarks were difficult to hear as he was shouted down by those on stage who were speaking into microphones. Among those attempting to speak over O’Rourke was Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, a Republican, who told the former El Paso congressman to "sit down" and that he was "an embarrassment.”

Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin, standing behind Abbott, shouted at O'Rourke, "I can't believe you're a sick son of a b—- that would come to a deal like this to make a political issue."

When O'Rourke yelled toward the stage, “It’s on you,” McLaughlin replied: “It’s on assholes like you. Why don’t you get out of here.”

O'Rourke was escorted out of the event by security.

Sayyed Nasrallah also thanked those wounded in action against the Israeli occupation and those who spent years in the occupation's detention centers, the resistance fighters' sacrifices on the battlefronts, and "the steadfast, patient people all over the villages of Lebanon."

Furthermore, he thanked the Lebanese army, especially for its actions in the late 1990s, as there was "a lot of harmony with the resistance, the Syrian Arab Army, and the Palestinian resistance factions."

Finally, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah thanked the Islamic Republic of Iran for all it offered. "They were very generous, and what it offers is no longer secret, especially the pivotal role of martyr Major General Hajj Qassem Soleimani."

"We must, on the anniversary of liberation, recall the suffering of the Lebanese people at the hands of the occupation since 1982, and everything that happened then, from bombings, terrorism, and displacement," the resistance chief stressed.

"The Lebanese people must know the true colors of this entity that is trying to appear as normal and blend in with the peoples of the region," he underscored.

In light of the latest national developments, Sayyed Nasrallah asked, "Are the ones who care about the sovereignty of Lebanon those who remain silent for decades about the occupation and accept the May 17 agreement?"

"The people must know who is the true protector of Lebanon's sovereignty," he added.

"The achievement made in 2000 is the greatest in modern history, and it is an unblemished victory met with great pride from the Arab World, the Islamic World, and Lebanon," he said.

"Our victory in 2000 shattered the illusion of the 'invincible' army, crushed the project of 'greater Israel', and gave hope to the Palestinians for liberation," the leader explained. "We must exhibit our sacrifices, for this victory did not come for cheap. It was made possible with blood, tears, worn hands, and fingers on triggers. We must show who resisted the occupation, who conspired against the people of their own country, and who stood on that hill. This is not to open up old wounds but to show who actually fought the occupation."

China Holds Live Fire Combat Drills Near Taiwan As Response To Biden Defense Pledge

China on Wednesday revealed that it held fresh military drills near Taiwan while Joe Biden was wrapping up his first trip to Asia as president. A statement cited "joint patrol and combat readiness operations near Taiwan" while the US leader was in Tokyo where he was meeting with leaders of the other "Quad" nations of Japan, India, and Australia. The military further warned of "collusion" between the US and Taiwan:

Shi Yi, from the PLA’s Eastern Theatre Command, said on Wednesday that the joint naval and air combat-readiness exercise by the People’s Liberation Army was a “solemn warning against recent collusion between the United States and Taiwan”.

The Wednesday statement was issued by the People‘s Liberation Army (PLA) Eastern Theater Command, confirming it held live fire combat readiness exercises both in the waters and airspace around Taiwan. "It is hypocritical and futile for the United States to say one thing and do another on the Taiwan issue," the spokesman, Shi added.

During his Tokyo visit Biden surprised the media and officials by committing to defend Taiwan militarily when asked by a reporter what the US would do in the event of a Chinese invasion. The White House subsequently tried to walk back the comments, stressing that the One China status quo policy has not changed. Beijing condemned the statement, issuing its oft repeated line that the US is "playing with fire". The Biden pledge to defend Taiwan came Monday, with the PLA drills coming apparently the day after.

According to more from the statement:

Senior Colonel Shi Yi, spokesman for the PLA Eastern Theater Command, said the patrol was launched as a warning against recent US support for “Taiwan independence” forces.

“Taiwan is a part of China, and the PLA Eastern Theater Command is determined to safeguard national sovereignty and regional peace and stability,” the spokesman said on Wednesday.

State-backed media outlet The People’s Daily reported China has recently organized “different branches of the forces for joint patrols and live-fire training exercises” in Taiwanese territory.

Further the Chinese Defense Ministry's website denounced the US for "hypocritical and useless" actions that continue to wrongly encourage Taiwan's pro-independence forces.

The PLA has "the resolution and capability to thwart any external forces' interference and secessionist attempts for 'Taiwan independence', and to firmly safeguard national sovereignty and security as well as regional peace and stability," the military statement said further.

Biden Admin: K-12 Schools Must Put Boys In Girls’ Bathrooms To Get Federal Lunch Money

K-12 schools must allow boys into girls’ private areas to obtain federal funds for lunches, breakfasts, and snacks, the Biden administration announced this month. A U.S. Department of Education spokesman told The Federalist the Biden administration’s press releases from several agencies announcing this policy will be followed by formal rulemaking in June.

“It seems to be playing politics with feeding poor kids, which is really unfortunate,” John Elcesser, executive director of the Indiana Non-Public Education Association, said via phone amid weeks of attempting to sort out these new demands with government officials on behalf of private schools in his state. “Because if a school feels like they cannot participate because it’s in conflict with their mission or values, if a religious exemption is not granted, you’re taking away a program that’s feeding low-income kids.”

Before many schools shut down in response to Covid-19, the National School Lunch Program fed nearly 30 million kids every school day, in approximately 100,000 public and private schools and residential care facilities.

Under this new demand, establishments that accept any federal food funding, including food stamps, must also allow males who claim to be female to access female private spaces, such as showers, bathrooms, and sleeping areas. Such organizations must also follow protocols such as requiring staff to use inaccurate pronouns to describe transgender people and allowing male staff to dress as women while on the job.

Religious institutions, however, qualify for a waiver exempting them from these requirements, said Alliance Defending Freedom Senior Counsel Greg Baylor in an interview Monday. According to the 1972 Title IX law, he said, religious institutions don’t have to file any paperwork to be exempt, although they can if they wish.

Baylor noted, however, that publicly affirming a commitment to sexual reality by seeking an exemption acknowledgment from federal agencies may assist extremist pressure campaigns. The activist group Human Rights Campaign’s blueprint for the Biden administration pushed for narrowing religious exemptions for multiple federal regulations and for the administration to “out” individuals and institutions who request such exemptions.

Drag Queens Perform at Iowa High School, District Claims Ignorance

At least one of the performers gave students pointers on gender identity

A student organization in Ankeny, Iowa hosted a drag show on Monday where at least one performer gave students tips on “gender identity.” The high school’s Gay Straight Alliance (GSA) club hosted the performers after school for their end-of-year meeting without authorization from administrators, according to a tweet from the district.

In another video, one of the performers told students that drag performances helped them with the “very beginning stages” of a gender identity “journey.”

“When I felt like I couldn’t express myself in school, or I felt like I had to look like this at school… I could be whoever I wanted to be,” the performer said. “And I started to think, ‘What is gender?’ And I realized that no matter what pronouns you use, you are who you are… I know on the inside that I am who I am.”

The performer went on to claim that gender identity can fluctuate over time. “I feel like sometimes I do identify as a male,” the performer said. “I feel like sometimes I’m more in the middle of the spectrum — not one or the other. That’s where I am right now.”

Panel Rejects Navy Attempt to Boot Officer for COVID-19 Vaccine Refusal

A Navy officer who refused to get a COVID-19 vaccine is not getting separated from the force, an administrative board recently ruled.

The board, composed of three officers, found that Lt. Bill Moseley did not commit misconduct by refusing to get the vaccine, according to R. Davis Younts, Moseley’s lawyer. The board also found unanimously that Moseley should be retained in the Navy.

A record of the May 20 hearing is not yet available, but the Navy confirmed that Moseley is not being removed.

“The Navy can confirm a board of inquiry occurred for Lt. Bill Moseley and that he was retained in the Navy. The Navy does not comment on the specifics of administrative actions,” a Navy spokeswoman told The Epoch Times in an email.

The Epoch Times has filed Freedom of Information Act requests for audio of the hearing and the verdict.

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, a Biden appointee, ordered all military personnel in August 2021 to get a COVID-19 vaccine. He said the move was done to make sure military readiness was maintained during the pandemic.

Each member had the option of submitting requests for accommodation, but many requests were rejected, including the vast majority of those submitted on religious grounds.

Moseley opposes getting a COVID-19 vaccine for religious reasons but ultimately opted not to file a request for a religious exemption because he became convinced that the request was going to be denied, regardless of how legitimate it was, Younts told The Epoch Times.

Musk Warns About Declining US Birth Rate: ‘We Just Need to Celebrate Having Kids’

Billionaire Elon Musk has again sounded an alarm over the country’s dwindling birthrate, saying people should “celebrate having kids.”

The tech visionary has been for years warned that population collapse is the biggest threat to civilization, yet recently focused more on domestic underpopulation. “USA birth rate has been below min sustainable levels for ~50 years,” Musk wrote in a May 24 Twitter post.

His remarks come as the U.S. birthrate increased last year—the first time since 2014—up 1 percent from a year earlier, according to newly released report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

It shows the number of births declined by an average of 2 percent per year from 2014 to 2020, followed by a further drop of 4 percent from 2019 to 2020 in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Last week, the billionaire rebuked claims that having fewer children is environmental-friendly to prevent global warming, calling it “total nonsense.”

“The environment’s gonna be fine even if we doubled the population,” Musk said during a virtual summit on May 20. “We can’t have civilization just dwindle into nothing.”

In 2019, American women in households with an annual income below the poverty threshold of $13,011 have seen the highest birth rate, at 74 births per 1,000 women, according to data from Statista. In comparison, families making over $200,000 per year have the lowest birth rate—only 44 births per 1,000 women.

Official statistics show that the estimated cost in 2015 of raising a child from birth through age 17 is $233,610, excluding the cost of college education, or almost $14,000 annually.

Musk expressed similar concerns in 2019 during a seminar with Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba founder Jack Ma in Shanghai. “Most people think we have too many people on the planet. But actually, this is an outdated view,” he said, describing population collapse as “the biggest issue in 20 years.”

Ex-president charged with treason

A former Moldovan leader and critic of the country’s pro-EU leadership has been detained

The anti-EU former Moldovan President Igor Dodon, detained on suspicion of “passive corruption, illegal financing of political parties [and] illicit enrichment,” is now facing four criminal charges his lawyer revealed on Wednesday. They include corruption and treason.

The day before, Dodon, who headed the country from 2016-2020, was arrested, for 72 hours, the country’s anti-corruption authority revealed. The treason charge appears to have been added later.

“Today, the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office officially charged Dodon with four counts, including corruption and treason," his counsel Maxim Lebedinsky told the Sputnik news agency.

His opposition Party of Socialists has accused the pro-EU Action and Solidarity faction along with the current Western-backed Moldovan President, Maia Sandu, of “trying to intimidate political opponents and establish a dictatorship in the Republic of Moldova.”

TASS reported that the detention period for Dodon and an unnamed second suspect could be extended.

“Today, the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office sent a request to arrest for a period of 30 days ex-president Igor Dodon and another detainee,” a judiciary spokeswoman is quoted as saying.

She revealed that the requests would be considered on Thursday by the Chisinau District Court.

Dodon denied all accusations, saying that it is not the first time that he has become “a target of orchestrated and politically controlled justice.” He also claimed that he has the “necessary explanations that remove any suspicion of corruption and violation of the law.”

According to a statement by the prosecutor’s office, the charges are linked to the so-called “bag case.” Video footage from 2019 from the office of the Democratic Party of Moldova showed, now-exiled, businessman Vladimir Plahotniuc, who headed the party, giving Dodon a bag, presumably with money. The president did not take the bag, telling Plahotniuc instead to give it to another person. The two men’s conversation revealed that the funds were intended to finance Dodon’s Party of Socialists (PSRM).

The video was published in 2020, but at the time prosecutors decided not to initiate a criminal case, citing insufficient evidence. Under Moldovan law, recordings made without a prosecutor's permission and without the participation of law enforcement cannot be considered evidence in court. Last week, however, interim General Prosecutor Dumitru Robu ordered the criminal probe to resume.

Prosecutors said on Tuesday that during searches of ten buildings and three cars, which had been conducted as part of an investigation, significant amounts of money and luxury items were seized.

“It should be mentioned that during the searches, one of the persons tried to destroy, by swallowing, the documents found at home, which confirmed the sale-purchase transactions of real estate worth about 700,000 euros,” the authority claimed in a statement.

"Dirty Jobs" television host Mike Rowe called out the General Services Administration (GSA) for canceling his production team's ability to film a new episode because of his "personal politics."

Thiel was scheduled to stand down today - the date of Meta's annual shareholder meeting. He previously announced he would not stand for re-election.

Meta has struggled to recover after a difficult last year for the company, which was battered by whistleblower allegations, a major global service outage, and protests and controversy over its policies. This year's first quarter earnings report was devastating and was followed by a huge drop in stock price.

Thiel, who co-founded Paypal in 1998, will turn his attention to candidates supporting the agenda of former President Donald Trump in the 2022 midterm elections.

Last year, he donated $10 million each to two separate super PACs supporting Republican Senate candidates J.D. Vance in Ohio and Blake Masters in Arizona, according to Politico. Both of them have worked for Thiel in the past.

Thiel gave $1.5 million to pro-Trump organizations during the 2016 election. Last spring, he took Vance to meet Trump at the Mar-A-Lago resort, where the former-president-turned-Republican-kingmaker allegedly gave Vance a 'good-natured ribbing.'

Thiel is worth $2.6 billion, according to Forbes.
