Six Charged in Silicon Valley Insider Trading Ring

Washington D.C., June 15, 2021 —

The Securities and Exchange Commission today announced insider trading charges against a Silicon Valley trading ring whose members generated nearly $1.7 million in illegal profits and losses avoided by trading on the confidential earnings information of two local technology companies.

According to the SEC’s complaint, Nathaniel Brown, who served as the revenue recognition manager for Infinera Corporation, repeatedly tipped Infinera’s unannounced quarterly earnings and financial performance to his best friend, Benjamin Wylam, from April 2016 until Brown left the company in November 2017. The SEC’s complaint alleges that Wylam, a high school teacher and bookmaker, traded on this information and also tipped Naveen Sood, who owed Wylam a six-figure gambling debt. Sood allegedly traded on this information and tipped his three friends Marcus Bannon, Matthew Rauch, and Naresh Ramaiya, each of whom also illegally traded on the information.

The SEC’s complaint further alleges that Bannon tipped Sood with material, nonpublic information concerning Bannon’s employer, Fortinet Inc. As alleged in the complaint, Bannon learned in early October 2016 that Fortinet was going to unexpectedly announce preliminary negative financial results. Bannon allegedly tipped this information to Sood, who used it to trade. After learning the information, Sood allegedly tipped Wylam and Ramaiya, who also traded.

“Using sophisticated data analysis, the SEC was able to uncover this insider trading ring and hold each of its participants accountable to ensure the integrity of our markets,” said Joseph Sansone, Chief of the SEC Enforcement Division’s Market Abuse Unit. “The Commission considered relevant circumstances, including Bannon’s medical condition, in accepting these defendants’ settlement offers in order to address the concerted misconduct alleged in our complaint, which involved insider trading in the securities of two different companies for more than a year.”

The SEC’s complaint charges Brown, Wylam, Sood, Bannon, Rauch, and Ramaiya with violating Section 10(b) of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 and Rule 10b-5 thereunder. Bannon, Rauch, and Ramaiya consented to the entry of final judgments without admitting or denying the allegations in the complaint. Bannon agreed to pay a civil penalty of $281,497, Rauch agreed to pay a civil penalty of $128,230, and Ramaiya agreed to pay a civil penalty of $65,780. Sood also consented to the entry of a final judgment and agreed to pay a civil penalty of $178,320. The final judgments, which require court approval, would permanently enjoin Bannon, Rauch, Ramaiya, and Sood from violating Section 10(b) of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 and Rule 10b-5 thereunder. Wylam has consented to a permanent injunction with civil penalties, if any, to be decided later by the court. The SEC’s litigation against Brown is continuing.

In parallel proceedings, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of California today announced related criminal charges against Brown, Wylam, and Sood.

The SEC’s investigation was conducted by Colby Steele and David Bennett with the assistance of Matthew Koop, Darren Boerner, and Patrick McCluskey in the Enforcement Division’s Market Abuse Unit. The case was supervised by Paul Kim and Mr. Sansone. The litigation will be led by Alfred Day, Timothy Halloran, and Stephan Schlegelmilch. The SEC appreciates the assistance of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of California and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

SEC Charges Issuer With Cybersecurity Disclosure Controls Failures

Washington D.C., June 15, 2021 —

The Securities and Exchange Commission today announced settled charges against real estate settlement services company First American Financial Corporation for disclosure controls and procedures violations related to a cybersecurity vulnerability that exposed sensitive customer information.

According to the SEC’s order, on the morning of May 24, 2019, a cybersecurity journalist notified First American of a vulnerability with its application for sharing document images that exposed over 800 million images dating back to 2003, including images containing sensitive personal data such as social security numbers and financial information. In response, according to the order, First American issued a press statement on the evening of May 24, 2019, and furnished a Form 8-K to the Commission on May 28, 2019. However, according to the order, First American’s senior executives responsible for these public statements were not apprised of certain information that was relevant to their assessment of the company’s disclosure response to the vulnerability and the magnitude of the resulting risk. In particular, the order finds that First American’s senior executives were not informed that the company’s information security personnel had identified the vulnerability several months earlier, but had failed to remediate it in accordance with the company’s policies. The order finds that First American failed to maintain disclosure controls and procedures designed to ensure that all available, relevant information concerning the vulnerability was analyzed for disclosure in the company’s public reports filed with the Commission.

“As a result of First American’s deficient disclosure controls, senior management was completely unaware of this vulnerability and the company’s failure to remediate it,” said Kristina Littman, Chief of the SEC Enforcement Division’s Cyber Unit. “Issuers must ensure that information important to investors is reported up the corporate ladder to those responsible for disclosures.”

The SEC’s order charges First American with violating Rule 13a-15(a) of the Exchange Act. Without admitting or denying the SEC’s findings, First American agreed to a cease-and-desist order and to pay a $487,616 penalty.

Arkansas Man Pleads Guilty To Soliciting And Paying For The Production Of A Video Depicting A 9-Year-Old Child Being Molested

Jacksonville, Florida – Cody Dillon Hogan (26, Leachville, Arkansas) has pleaded guilty to using the internet to solicit and pay an individual to molest a 9-year-old child and to creating a video recording depicting this sexual abuse. Hogan faces a mandatory minimum penalty of 15 years, and up to 30 years, in federal prison and a potential life term of supervised release. Hogan was arrested on November 9, 2020, at his residence in Arkansas and remains in custody. A sentencing date has not yet been set.

According to court documents, in December 2019, an undercover FBI agent in Jacksonville, who was posing as a parent of a 9-year-old child, made contact with Hogan in a particular online chat application. During an online session, Hogan, using the online name “stonetelephone,” sent the undercover agent a photo of his own genitalia and asked for “naughty” photos of the purported 9-year-old “child.” Hogan offered to pay the “parent” to create and send him a video of the “child” being sexually abused. Hogan gave specific instructions as to how he wanted to see the “child” molested in the video, and he sent the agent a $50 gift card as payment for the requested video. For several weeks, Hogan continued to solicit the undercover agent to produce and send him a video of the 9-year-old “child” being molested, and he provided advice on various ways to send it to him over the internet using group sharing accounts and online cloud storage. During one particular online chat, Hogan stated, “After I see this video there could be all kinds of money and requests coming your way lol.”

Subsequently, FBI agents and other law enforcement officers executed a federal search warrant at Hogan’s residence in Arkansas and placed him under arrest. During an interview with FBI agents, Hogan admitted that he had engaged in online conversations with the mother of a 9-year-old child about producing and sending him a pornographic video of the child. He also stated that he had successfully solicited at least three other children to produce and send him sexually explicit photos of themselves. A search of Hogan’s cellphone and his homemade computer revealed that these devices contained hundreds of videos and images depicting the sexual abuse of young children, including sadistic and masochistic conduct.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Jacksonville and Memphis and the Jonesboro (Arkansas) Police Department. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney D. Rodney Brown.

It is another case brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by the United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims. Rochester Man Indicted for Possession of Child Pornography

CONCORD –Michael Clemence, 35, of Rochester was indicted by a federal grand jury on Monday and charged with one count of possession of child pornography, Acting United States Attorney John J. Farley announced today.

Clemence was arrested on June 7, 2021 and is currently detained.

According to the original complaint filed in court, federal agents located one or more images of child pornography on electronic devices seized from Clemence’s residence during the execution of a federal search warrant on June 4, 2021. The investigation into Clemence stemmed from a larger investigation into child exploitation material on the “dark web.”

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding this matter is encouraged to contact Homeland Security Investigations at 603-629-2716.

The charges in the indictment are only allegations. The defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

The case was investigated by the Homeland Security Investigations and the Rochester Police Department and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kasey Weiland and Anna Krasinski.

Law enforcement officials in Ukraine have announced a successful response to a spree of ransomware attacks. It’s believed that a group of six hackers working together caused a whopping $500 million in damage during a lengthy cybercrime rampage.

Among the victims of these attacks are several U.S. universities, including the University of California, the University of Maryland and Stanford University Medical School. The group targeted numerous other organizations, primarily based in the U.S. and South Korea.

Authorities from both countries assisted the National Police of Ukraine (NPU) with the investigation. It’s unclear whether or not any of the alleged criminals were actually arrested, but a large amount of cash was seized when police searched more than 20 locations around the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv.

Infrastructure that the six used to orchestrate their attacks and steal victims’ data was also seized by police. Cybernews reports that Ukraine’s cybercrime unit also “blocked channels for legalizing ransom payments in cryptocurrencies.”

The group is said to have distributed ransomware developed by Cl0p, a notorious Russian-speaking gang with known links to other elite cybercriminal groups. Ukrainian officials did not specify whether the 6 arrestees were full-fledged Cl0p members or merely hackers affiliated with the group.

One of the more unique developments with Cl0p was that its operators provided victims with a link to a hidden chat service on the Tor network. Instead of sending emails which might become public, victims could use the Tor chat to hold ransom negotiations in a more secure and private fashion.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Renowned rapper Kodak Black caused a commotion this week when he secretly recorded a public official apologizing to him over the phone.

Broward County Commissioner Mark Bogen called the rapper Monday to apologize for opposing a proclamation in honor of Black’s charitable work. Bogen said he was reacting to Black’s well-publicized run-ins with the law and didn’t realize what good he had done.

What Bogen didn’t know is that Black was recording the conversation and then posted a 3-minute, 40-second video for his 10.5 million followers on Instagram.

It’s illegal in Florida to record someone without their permission, although it’s not clear where Black was at the time. Raised in Pompano Beach, he received the proclamation Friday while visiting Broward County for his birthday.

Although Black is on probation in connection with a sexual assault case, there seems little chance he’ll be prosecuted for the recording. The Broward State Attorney’s Office did not respond to requests for comment Tuesday.

The video was removed from Instagram on Tuesday after receiving a half-million views. Black’s lawyer did not respond to questions about why the video was removed.

Some of the rapper’s Instagram followers mocked Bogen’s apology before the video was taken down.

Commissioner Dale Holness issued the proclamation, which lists several of Black’s contributions. But Black’s criminal record touched off Bogen’s initial opposition.

Black, whose real name is Bill K. Kapri, is on probation after he pleaded guilty in April to assault and battery in a sex assault case in which he was accused of attacking a teenage girl in a South Carolina hotel room. He received a suspended 10-year sentence and 18 months’ probation.

Russian National Convicted of Charges Relating to Kelihos Botnet

Helped Hackers Evade Defenses of U.S. Businesses and Conduct Ransomware Attacks

A federal jury in Hartford convicted a Russian national yesterday for his role in operating a “crypting” service used to conceal “Kelihos” malware from antivirus software, enabling hackers to systematically infect victim computers around the world with malicious software, including ransomware. Oleg Koshkin, 41, formerly of Estonia, was convicted of one count of conspiracy to commit computer fraud and abuse and one count of aiding and abetting computer fraud and abuse. He faces a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison and is scheduled to be sentenced on September 20.

“By operating a website that was intended to hide malware from antivirus programs, Koshkin provided a critical service that enabled other cyber criminals to infect thousands of computers around the world,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Leonard C Boyle. “We will investigate and prosecute the individuals who aid and abet cyber criminals as vigorously as we do the ones who actually hit the ‘send’ button on viruses and other malicious software.”

“The defendant designed and operated a service that was an essential tool for some of the world’s most destructive cybercriminals, including ransomware attackers,” said Acting Assistant Attorney General Nicholas L. McQuaid of the Justice Department's Criminal Division. “The verdict should serve as a warning to those who provide infrastructure to cybercriminals: the Criminal Division and our law enforcement partners consider you to be just as culpable as the hackers whose crimes you enable — and we will work tirelessly to bring you to justice.”

“Mr. Koshkin and his associates knowingly provided crypting services designed to help malicious software bypass anti-virus software,” said Special Agent in Charge David Sundberg of the FBI’s New Haven Division. “The criminal nature of the Crypt4U service was a clear threat to the confidentiality, integrity and availability of computer systems everywhere. We at the FBI will never stop pursuing those like Mr. Koshkin for perpetrating cyber crimes and threats to the public at large.”

According to court documents and evidence introduced during the trial, Koshkin operated the websites “crypt4u.com,” “fud.bz,” and others. The websites promised to render malicious software fully undetectable (FUD) by nearly every major provider of antivirus software. Koshkin and his co-conspirators claimed that their services could be used for malware such as botnets, remote access trojans (RATs), keyloggers, credential stealers, and cryptocurrency miners.

In particular, Koshkin worked with Peter Levashov, the operator of the Kelihos botnet, to develop a system that would allow Levashov to crypt the Kelihos malware multiple times each day. Koshkin provided Levashov with a custom, high-volume crypting service that enabled Levashov to distribute Kelihos through multiple criminal affiliates. The Kelihos botnet was used by Levashov to send spam, harvest account credentials, conduct denial of service attacks, and to distribute ransomware and other malicious software. At the time it was dismantled by the FBI, the Kelihos botnet was known to include at least 50,000 compromised computers around the world.

Koshkin was arrested in California on September 6, 2019, and has been detained since his arrest.

• Former President Barack Obama’s unilateral award of work permits to roughly 800,000 illegal migrants during the Great Recession has been an “overwhelming success,” according to President Joe Biden’s border chief, Alejandro Mayorkas.

• “This extraordinarily successful policy has transformed the lives of hundreds of thousands of young ‘Dreamers’ by making them eligible for work authorization and providing a measure of protection from deportation,” said the June 15 USA Today op-ed by Mayorkas, who is the secretary of the Department of Homeland Security.

• Mayorkas does not say how Americans gained from Obama’s flood of cheap labor — or from the Democrats’ subsequent emotional shift towards the concerns of migrants.

• He hints that Americans gain from the amnesty by saying, “the simple truth is that while DACA has been overwhelmingly successful for all our families and communities.” But Mayorkas — who arrived in 1960 as a refugee child from Cuba — provides no evidence that ordinary Americans gain wages or dignity from DACA’s flood of cheap labor.

• The op-ed underscores the growing evidence that the nation’s border chief cares about the needs of migrants, not about Americans’ right to a national labor market, wages. and a government that cares about their circumstances:

He also claimed the legal authority to give them work permits, even while many millions of Americans were being impoverished by the housing crash caused by the bipartisan establishment.

• In 2014, Obama tried to extend the DACA amnesty to the illegal migrant parents who had children born on U.S. soil but was slapped down by a federal court of appeals.

• In 2020, the Supreme Court split evenly over the program’s fate amid a massive astroturf campaign by wealthy investors to preserve the amnesty in the face of cancellation orders by then-President Donald Trump.

• The investor group that helped fund many of the protest groups was FWD.us, founded by Mark Zuckerberg and other West Coast investors. In November 2020, the group strongly supported Mayorkas’s nomination for the DHS job.

• Mayorkas’s op-ed does refer to DACA migrants as being doctors — but the vast majority of DACA migrants compete against blue-collar Americans for jobs, wages, and housing. In 2017, for example, a pro-migration group showed that DACA migrants graduated from colleges at just one-quarter the rate of American youths.

• Also, the data provided by the Migration Policy Institute showed the sectors worked in by the 382,000 illegal aliens who held jobs because of their DACA work permits:

• The occupations most commonly employing DACA holders are food preparation and servicing (16 percent, or 60,000 workers), sales (14 percent, or 54,000 workers) and office and administrative support (2 percent, or 47,000 workers) … About 5,000 work as health-care practitioners…. Almost 3,000 each work in business operations and in computer or mathematical operations.

Koshkin’s co-defendant, Pavel Tsurkan, is charged with conspiring to cause damage to 10 or more protected computers, and aiding and abetting Levashov in causing damage to 10 or more protected computers. He is released on bond while awaiting trial.

As to Tsurkan, an indictment is merely an allegation, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

Levashov was arrested by the Spanish National Police on April 7, 2017, and extradited to the United States. On September 12, 2018, he pleaded guilty to one count of causing intentional damage to a protected computer, one count of conspiracy, one count of wire fraud, and one count of aggravated identity theft.

In April 2021, the Department of Justice announced the creation of the Ransomware and Digital Extortion Task Force to combat the growing number of ransomware and digital extortion attacks. As part of the Task Force, the Criminal Division, working with the U.S. Attorneys’ Offices, prioritizes the disruption, investigation, and prosecution of ransomware and digital extortion activity by tracking and dismantling the development and deployment of malware, identifying the cybercriminals responsible, and holding those individuals accountable for their crimes. The department, through the Task Force, also strategically targets the ransomware criminal ecosystem as a whole and collaborates with domestic and foreign government agencies as well as private sector partners to combat this significant criminal threat.

Jared Kushner Has Book Deal, Publication Expected in 2022

NEW YORK (AP) — Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of former President Donald Trump and one of his top advisers during his administration, has a book deal.

Broadside Books, a conservative imprint of HarperCollins Publishers, announced that Kushner’s book will come out in early 2022. Kushner has begun working on the memoir, currently untitled, and is expected to write about everything from the Middle East to criminal justice reform to the pandemic.

“His book will be the definitive, thorough recounting of the administration — and the truth about what happened behind closed doors,” Broadside announced Tuesday.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Kushner was often at the center of the Trump administration’s policies — whether brokering the normalization of relationships between Israel and United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Sudan and Morocco — the so-called Abraham Accords — or playing a key role in a criminal justice bill passed by Congress in 2018. He has also been the subject of numerous controversies, whether for his financial dealings and potential conflicts of interest or for the administration’s widely criticized handling of COVID-19.

In April 2020, less than two months into the pandemic, Kushner labeled the White House response a “great success story,” dismissed “the eternal lockdown crowd” and also said: “I think you’ll see by June a lot of the country should be back to normal and the hope is that by July the country’s really rocking again.”

The signing of Kushner comes during an ongoing debate within the book industry over which Trump officials, notably Trump himself, can be taken on without starting a revolt at the publishing house. Thousands of Simon & Schuster employees and authors signed an open letter this spring condemning the publisher’s decision to sign up former Vice President Mike Pence.

"Scientist Opens Up About His Early Email to Fauci on Virus Origins"

Among the thousands of pages of Dr. Anthony Fauci’s emails obtained recently by The Washington Post and BuzzFeed News, a short note from Kristian Andersen, a virus expert at the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California, has garnered a lot of attention.

Over the past year, Andersen has been one of the most outspoken proponents of the theory that the coronavirus originated from a natural spillover from an animal to humans outside of a lab. But in the email to Fauci in January 2020, Andersen hadn’t yet come to that conclusion. He told Fauci, the government’s top infectious disease expert, that some features of the virus made him wonder whether it had been engineered, and noted that he and his colleagues were planning to investigate further by analyzing the virus’s genome.

The researchers published those results in a paper in the scientific journal Nature Medicine on March 17, 2020, concluding that a laboratory origin was very unlikely. Andersen has reiterated this point of view in interviews and on Twitter over the past year, putting him at the center of the continuing controversy over whether the virus could have leaked from a Chinese lab.

When his early email to Fauci was released, the media storm around Andersen intensified, and he deactivated his Twitter account. He answered written questions from The New York Times about the email and the fracas. The exchange has been lightly edited for length.

Q: Much has been made of your email to Fauci in late January 2020, shortly after the coronavirus genome was first sequenced. You said, “The unusual features of the virus make up a really small part of the genome (<0.1%) so one has to look really closely at all the sequences to see that some of the features (potentially) look engineered.” Can you explain what you meant?

A: At the time, based on limited data and preliminary analyses, we observed features that appeared to potentially be unique to SARS-CoV-2. We had not yet seen these features in other related viruses from natural sources, and thus were exploring whether they had been engineered into the virus.

Those features included a structure known as the furin cleavage site that allows the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein to be cleaved by furin, an enzyme found in human cells, and another structure, known as the receptor binding domain, that allowed the virus to anchor to the outside of human cells via a cell-surface protein known as ACE2.

Q: You also said you found the virus’s genome to be “inconsistent with expectations from evolutionary theory.”

A: This was a reference to the features of SARS-CoV-2 that we identified based on early analyses that didn’t appear to have an obvious immediate evolutionary precursor. We hadn’t yet performed more in-depth analyses to reach a conclusion, rather were sharing our preliminary observations.

I cautioned in that same email that we would need to look at the question much more closely and that our opinions could change within a few days based on new data and analyses — which they did.

Q: In March, you and other scientists published the Nature Medicine paper saying that “we do not believe that any type of laboratory-based scenario is plausible.” Can you explain how the research changed your view?

A: The features in SARS-CoV-2 that initially suggested possible engineering were identified in related coronaviruses, meaning that features that initially looked unusual to us weren’t.

Many of these analyses were completed in a matter of days, while we worked around the clock, which allowed us to reject our preliminary hypothesis that SARS-CoV-2 might have been engineered, while other “lab”-based scenarios were still on the table.

Yet more extensive analyses, significant additional data and thorough investigations to compare genomic diversity more broadly across coronaviruses led to the peer-reviewed study published in Nature Medicine. For example, we looked at data from coronaviruses found in other species, such as bats and pangolins, which demonstrated that the features that first appeared unique to SARS-CoV-2 were in fact found in other, related viruses.

Overall, this is a textbook example of the scientific method where a preliminary hypothesis is rejected in favor of a competing hypothesis after more data become available and analyses are completed."

A: As we stated in our article last March, it is currently impossible to prove or disprove specific hypotheses of SARS-CoV-2 origin. However, while both lab and natural scenarios are possible, they are not equally likely — precedence, data and other evidence strongly favor natural emergence as a highly likely scientific theory for the emergence of SARS-CoV-2, while the lab leak remains a speculative hypothesis based on conjecture.

Based on detailed analyses of the virus conducted to date by researchers around the world, it is extremely unlikely that the virus was engineered. The scenario in which the virus was found in nature, brought to the lab and then accidentally release[d] is similarly unlikely, based on current evidence.

In contrast, the scientific theory about the natural emergence of SARS-CoV-2 presents a far simpler and more likely scenario. The emergence of SARS-CoV-2 is very similar to that of SARS-CoV-1, including its seasonal timing, location and association with the human food chain.

Q: Some people have pointed to your email to Fauci, suggesting that it raises questions about whether scientists and government officials gave more credence to the lab-leak theory than they let on to the public. And some recent reports have suggested that certain government officials didn’t want to talk about the lab-leak theory because it would draw attention to the government’s support of so-called gain-of-function research. What is your response to these suggestions? Were you worried in the spring of 2020 about the public latching on to a lab-leak theory?

A: My primary concern last spring, which is true to this day, is to perform research to discern exactly how SARS-CoV-2 emerged in the human population.

I won’t speak to what government officials and other scientists did or didn’t say or think. My comments and conclusions are strictly driven by scientific inquiry, and I strongly believe that careful, well-supported public messaging around complex topics is paramount.

Q: Many scientists have now expressed an openness to the possibility that a lab leak occurred. Looking back over the past year, do you have any regrets about the way you or the broader scientific community have communicated with the public about the lab-leak idea?

A: First, it is important to say that the scientific community has made tremendous inroads in understanding COVID-19 in a remarkably short amount of time. Vigorous debate is integral to science and that’s what we have seen regarding the origins of SARS-CoV-2.

It can be difficult at times for the public, I think, to observe the debate and discern the likelihood of the various hypotheses. That is particularly true where science becomes politicized, and the current vilification of scientists and subject matter experts sets a dangerous precedent. We saw that with the climate change debate and now we’re seeing it with the debate around various facets of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Throughout this pandemic, I have made my best efforts to help explain what the scientific evidence is and suggests, and I have no regrets about that.

Q: Do you support President Joe Biden’s call for U.S. intelligence agencies to further investigate these various possibilities? Could they find anything that would change your mind?

A: I have always supported further inquiries into the origin of SARS-CoV-2, including President Biden’s recent call, as it is important that we more fully understand how the virus emerged.

As is true for any scientific process, there are several things that would lend credence to the lab-leak hypothesis that would make me change my mind. For example, any credible evidence of SARS-CoV-2 having been at the Wuhan Institute of Virology prior to the pandemic — whether in a freezer, in tissue culture or in animals, or epidemiological evidence of very early confirmed COVID-19 cases associated with the institute.
