Oregon wildfire melts trucks, leaves warlike destruction in wake

PHOENIX, Ore. (Reuters) - Matt Manson stared at the burned-out corpse of his pick-up truck on Friday, which sat on a blackened driveway in front of a smoldering pile of rubble that once was his house.
Like other residents of the small agricultural town of Phoenix, Oregon, he was in shock as he returned to his neighborhood and saw how fast the Alameda Drive wildfire had engulfed his home and upended his life.
“The fire melted the motor right out of my truck - it drained down the driveway,” said Manson, a 43-year-old construction worker. “I lost everything. I lost all my tools. My truck. I can’t work. I lost $30,000 worth of guitars. All gone.”
Manson, who now owns only a backpack with a change of clothes, struggled to find the words to describe how the fire had ravaged the town that sits near the green Siskiyou Mountains, about 210 miles south of Portland. Trees lining his street were now just blackened, skeletal remains.
“It looks like a war just happened here,” he said.
A half million people in Oregon were ordered to evacuate as of Friday as scores of wildfires ate up the parched countryside, smoke darkening skies across the state, along with neighboring California and Washington. At least 24 people have died since the fires began last month. Authorities say they expect to find many more dead when they can inspect hard-hit areas.
In Phoenix the smoke was still thick in the air as many of its 4,600 residents tried to grasp the extent of the damage. Local authorities said the fire destroyed a large swath of the town. State fire officials said at least two people were killed and four injured, and that the fire was 20% contained as of Friday afternoon.
Doris Peterson, 85, said she only had time to grab Toby, her 12-year-old Chihuahua, when she and her husband, Richard, fled after police banged on their door Tuesday about noon and told them they had just minutes to get out.
They spent five hours in bumper-to-bumper traffic before finding a hotel room in Grants Pass, Oregon - 35 miles up Interstate 5.
On Friday she and her husband sat in their car at a baseball field just north of Phoenix, waiting to be escorted into their neighborhood by police. She was bracing for the worst, but still hoped for a miracle.
“I called my landline phone - and the answering machine picked up!” she said. “My next door neighbor’s will not pick up. Maybe our house survived.”

here's a crazy idea/
anyone who's seen the episode 'shut up and dance' , black mirror season 3, episode 3, might grasp what I'm talking about.
for those who don't. I'll do a tl:dr version: basically, a group of people get trolled with black mail, and people have shown to go through extremes to make sure no one finds out what they (the people who are being blackmailed) have done. the bonus is that one of these people, is a young pedophile

I see Cirrus Aviation down at the bottom…Probably for hanger space, but it gets me wondering if there isn't going to be a push for general aviation to return. I've been calling around to get my PPL and while not as expensive as I imagined, still pricier than the 70s/80s. That said, some schools are overbooked and can't take on more students. High demand even during COVID and airline pilots getting laid off right and left. Should be interesting for jobs as well. Tons of civil aviation runways around the country. JOBS. I wonder what new tech is out there too…and Cirrus would be the go to place for that. I'd settle for an SR22T but the Vision jet would be pretty sweet.

Corney's Career
1985 - gets law degree from University of Chicago, goes to work for law firm in New York
1987 - becomes assistant US Attorney for the Southern District of NY. Only took 2 years, damn that was quick!
1993 - long prosecution of John Gambino results in mistrial in February. Coincidentally the same month as WTC bombing. Comey leaves NY, hired by McGuireWoods lobbying firm in VA. McGuireWoods are swamp, and thought to be the shadow govt. of Virginia.
1994 - Gambinos plead guilty
1996 - becomes partner in McGuireWoods. Deputy Special Council assigned to Whitewater investigation. Clintons never prosecuted.
1996 - Becomes Assistant US Attorney in Virginia, appointed by Janet Reno (Clinton's A.G.). Same year as Khobar Towers bombing, when Brennan was CIA station chief in Saudi Arabia.
2001 - Assigned as lead investigator into Khobar Towers bombing
2003 - becomes Deputy Attorney General under Ashcroft
2005 - leaves DOJ to be become Senior VP and lead council of Lockheed Martin. Subsequent contract awards to LM from FBI skyrocket, Comey pockets over 10 million over the next 4 years.
2010 - General Council to Bridgewater Associates, a deep state hedge fund purported to be run like a cult, which had a sexual harassment scandal that came to a boil in 2012/2013. How much did they pay him to leave Lockheed Martin?
2012 - FBI purges anti-terrorism training curricula of material offensive to muslims, including linkages to Khobar Towers and 1993 WTC bombing.
2013 - becomes Director of FBI, replacing Mueller, who had funneled him all the money during the Lockheed years. Vault 7 leaks started this year, connected to Hilary Clinton's unsecured server.
2016 - clears Clinton of any impropriety in emails scandal, launches investigation into Candidate Trump
My take on all this, which is more obvious when looked at in complete context, is that Comey is a 'Fixer'. He steps into the prosecution role on the Gambino mob, resulting in a bungled case. The year after he leaves the new prosecutor gets a confession. The swamp firm in VA he worked for has been LEGENDARY over the years, and deserves its own dig.
It reads to me like he helped bury Whitewater, and was immediately rewarded with a stint as Assistant US Attorney. Keep in mind this was WHILE Clinton was pres, and Janet Reno was his appointee. Dirty. Lead investigator on Khobar Towers case, could that have been to make sure the C_A was never implicated? Could that be why he was rewarded with Deputy AG two years later?
Was he put in as director of FBI to oversee the entire Vault 7 saga and make sure that Hilary was never going to take the rap? It sure looks that way. To cap off a perfectly corrupt career, he ended with the Trump investigation.

Lausch, Jr. for the Northern District of Illinois, U.S. Attorney Justin Herdman for the Northern District of Ohio, and U.S. Attorney Thomas Kirsch II for the Northern District of Indiana, the Attorney General announced that since Operation Legend was launched on July 8, there have been more than 2,000 arrests, with nearly 600 defendants charged in federal courts. He also announced that since launching Operation Legend in Chicago on July 22, the homicide rate has declined significantly. In fact, when comparing the seven weeks prior to the operation’s launch with the five weeks immediately following the launch, homicides in Chicago declined 50%.

As a designated Operation Legend city, the Bureau of Justice Assistance will make available $3.5 million in funding to reimburse the Chicago Police Department and City of Chicago for the work of local law enforcement on the federal task forces supporting Operation Legend’s violent crime reduction efforts. The COPS Office has also made $9.375 million available to the Chicago Police Department to fund the hiring of 75 officers.
TECH the AG received briefings on active cases, as well as on the technologies, such as shot spotters and LPRs, that CPD is utilizing to help them prevent violent crime and enforce the law.
