During a police response to an armed incident at a private residence, a police-operated drone was deliberately shot down by a civilian. Shortly afterwards, police shot the armed suspect while preventing him from leaving a secured area.

While the wider incident is now subject to a prosecutor-led investigation, one detail stands apart: this appears to be the first known case in Europe of a drone being intentionally shot out of the sky by a private individual during a law-enforcement operation.

The Hungarian PM says Kiev is trying to meddle in national elections

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has accused Ukraine’s VladimirZelensky of trying to interfere in Hungary’s upcoming parliamentary elections.

Speaking at the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting in Davos last week, Zelensky accused Orban – a staunch opponent of Western military aid to Kiev and the country’s entry into the EU – of “selling out European interests.” He also called for giving “every Viktor who lives off European money… a smack in the head,” apparently referring to Orban.

The Hungarian prime minister has repeatedly stated that Budapest will neither supply Kiev with weapons nor allow the transit of arms through Hungarian territory.

“Last week, Ukrainian political leaders, including the president himself, issued highly offensive and threatening messages directed at Hungary and the Hungarian government personally,” Orban said on Monday in a video message published on X.

“Our national security agencies have assessed this latest Ukrainian attack and determined that these events are part of a coordinated series of Ukrainian actions aimed at interfering in the Hungarian elections,” he added.

US unblocks Venezuelan assets – interim president

Washington is reportedly sitting on $30 billion worth of the South American nation’s property

The US has unfrozen some of Venezuela’s impounded assets, acting President Delcy Rodriguez has announced.Rodriguez said the money will be spent on hospital equipment and power infrastructure.

Speaking on national television on Tuesday,Rodriguez said she had spoken to US President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio with “respect and courtesy,” and that the unblocked funds would be used to purchase hospital equipment from the US “and other countries.”

“We are unblocking Venezuelan resources that belong to the Venezuelan people… and this will allow us to invest significant resources in equipment for hospitals,” she said. Rodriguez added that Venezuela will also purchase “equipment for the electricity sector and equipment for the gas industry”with the funds.

Rodriguez did not say what amount of assets would be released. President Nicolas Maduro claimed in 2022 that around $30 billion worth of Venezuelan assets were frozen abroad. These include oil impounded by the US and around $2 billion worth of gold frozen in the UK.

Maduro was abducted by US forces earlier this month and charged with narcoterrorism, cocaine trafficking, and firearms offenses. Rodriguez has denounced the kidnapping of Maduro, but has attempted to placate Washington – namely by allowing US companies to run the South American nation’s oil industry.

Venezuela’s oil industry was nationalized in 1976, with American contractors slapped with further restrictions by Maduro’s predecessor, Hugo Chavez, in 2007. Trump has repeatedly claimed that these moves amounted to Venezuela “stealing” oil infrastructure built by US firms.

Trump has warned that if Rodriguez “doesn’t do what’s right, she is going to pay a very big price, probably bigger than Maduro.”The US president spoke with Rodriguez by phone last week, and announced plans to invite her to the White House.

The United States Supreme Court updated its docket Wednesday to consider whether to take up President Donald Trump's request for a review of the jury verdict in writer E. Jean Carroll's civil battery and defamation case next month.

The high court will review the president's petition at a closed-door meeting on Feb. 20, where they will also review dozens of other requests, according to The Hill. The majority of petitions that reach the Supreme Court are dismissed.

The petition comes after Trump attempted to appeal the verdict in lower courts, which found him liable for sexually assaulting Carroll and defamation, but did not find that the president raped her. He was ordered to pay $5 million.

Trump has repeatedly denied the sexual abuse and rape allegations, which date back to the 1990s.

Trump’s personal attorneys argued in their final brief Wednesday that it is “deeply damaging to the fabric of our Republic” for the president to have to continue fighting “against decades-old, false allegations and the myriad wrongs throughout this baseless case. This mistreatment of a President cannot be allowed to stand."

The News Movement was the outlet that captured the incident on Jan. 13. It said in an X post that it “appears to be Alex Pretti interacting with federal immigration agents” and that it had the clip analyzed by the BBC, “whose facial recognition technology confirmed his identify to a 97% degree of accuracy.”

The BBC confirmed the authenticity of the video in their 10 p.m. GMT news broadcast. Reporter Ros Atkins said the man in the video “has the same coat, facial hair and gait as Alex Pretti and a facial recognition tool suggests a 97% match. We see him shouting abuse at the agents.” Separately, a spokesperson for the BBC confirmed to Mediaite that they reviewed the footage and concluded the man in the video is 97% likely to be Alex Pretti.

A narrator for the video said TNM’s team — comprised of reporters Dallin Mello and Dan Ming — received a tip that federal agents were blocking a street in Minneapolis around 10:15 a.m. When they arrived, they recorded a man who looked like Pretti spitting on a Ford SUV and shouting at immigration agents that they were “f*cking trash!”

The man who looked like Pretti was wearing a black hat, brown coat, and had a beard; the narrator noted it was similar to the outfit Pretti wore when he was killed on January 24. He then smashed the right tail light by kicking it two times and flipped the middle finger at the vehicle.

At that point, “An agent then got out of the vehicle, grabbed him, and pushed him to the ground,” the voiceover said.

The man who appeared to be Pretti could be seen trying to scurry away from one agent before another agent grabbed him and they both threw him down.

“During the altercation, agents fired tear gas and pepper balls into the crowd,” the narrator continued. “They continued to hold the man down before they retreat and he walks away.”

The narrator said there appears to be a gun “visible above his waistband” in the footage.

Sikorski earlier shared a report from the US-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW),which claimed Russian forces are increasingly using Starlink satellites operated by Musk’s SpaceX to guide drone attacks in Ukraine. ISW said that drones including BM-35, Shahed, and Molniya models are being fitted with Starlink systems to extend their range and improve accuracy.

“Hey, big man, why don’t you stop the Russians from using Starlinks?”Sikorski wrote on Tuesday.

Musk fired back on Wednesday: “This drooling imbecile doesn’t even realize that Starlink is the backbone of Ukraine’s military communications.”

The public clash is not the first between Musk and Sikorski. A photograph of US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin has been hung at the White House, according to PBS correspondent Elizabeth Landers.

Landers said the image can be seen in the recently renovated Palm Room, a waiting area linking the West Wing to the executive residence, positioned above a family photo of Trump with his granddaughter.

The snapshot shows Trump and Putin walking side by side at their summit in Anchorage, Alaska, last year and appears to match the photo the US president displayed at an August press conference, which he said was sent to him by Putin.

The Palm Room is not part of public tours but serves as the main lobby for officials and journalists visiting the West Wing.

It was redesigned last September from a greenhouse-style lounge into a formal reception area with framed portraits.

While a Trump official said it is routine for photos of presidential engagements to be displayed and rotated throughout the White House,Landers’ discovery quickly drew media attention given the complicated Trump-Putin dynamic.

Two women were looking for McDonald’s but ended up at Camp Pendleton, according to media reports. (Does that even sound credible?)

Two Russian women are facing deportation from the US after they reportedly took a wrong turn and accidentally drove onto Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in California, the Russian Embassy has said.

According to Russian media reports, the two friends, Kristina and Natasha from Samara, were on a road trip in the US last week.While driving near San Diego, they grew hungry and used a navigation app to find the nearest McDonald’s. The GPS directed them onto a route that led them directly onto the military base.

The women reportedly stopped in a parking area where they were detained by soldiers. Their car was impounded, and they have been in custody for at least three days, SHOT Telegram channel reported on Monday.

“According to the Immigration and Customs Service of the United States, as of January 26, it was granted custody of two female Russian citizens, detained after trespassing onto the territory of Camp Pendleton in California,” the Russian Embassy said on Tuesday. “At present, they are kept at a local deportation center pending repatriation.”

The embassy added that consular officials are in contact with US immigration authorities to clarify the circumstances of the incident. It also noted thatthe US State Department has still not formally notified diplomats of the Russian citizens’ detention.

US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will not be present when Russian and Ukrainian officials meet in Abu Dhabi this weekend, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has confirmed.

The Federal Reserve has not yet complied with grand jury subpoenas issued as part of a criminal investigation of Fed Chair Jerome Powell, a person familiar with the situation told CNBC.

The probe of Powell is continuing, according to that person, who spoke hours before the Fed revealed its decision to hold interest rates steady.

It is not clear when the deadline is for the Fed to turn over documents demanded by the subpoena.

The Federal Reserve has not yet complied with grand jury subpoenas issued as part of a criminal investigation of Fed Chair Jerome Powell by federal prosecutors in Washington, D.C., a person familiar with the situation told CNBC on Wednesday.

The probe of Powell is continuing, according to that person, who spoke hours before the Fed revealed its decision to hold interest rates steady.

Powell on Jan. 11 said he was under criminal investigation. The probe is being conducted by the office of Jeanine Pirro, the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia.

It is not clear when the deadline is for the Fed to turn over documents demanded by the subpoena.

CNBC has requested comment from the Fed and from the Department of Justice.

While speaking to reporters later Wednesday, Powell was asked if the Fed had responded to the subpoenas.

“I have nothing for you on that today,” Powell replied.

Powell said on Jan. 11 that the DOJ days earlier had served the Fed “with grand jury subpoenas threatening a criminal indictment related to my testimony before the Senate Banking Committee last June” about the central bank’s $2.5 billion renovation of its headquarters.

Powell also said that the investigation resulted from frustration by President Donald Trump over the Fed’s refusal to cut interest rates as quickly and as much as the president wanted last year.

“The threat of criminal charges is a consequence of the Federal Reserve setting interest rates based on our best assessment of what will serve the public, rather than following the preferences of the President,” Powell said in a video statement tweeted by the Fed’s X account.

The blunder triggered an internal review at the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency

The acting director of the nation’s top cyber defense agency uploaded sensitive government documents into a public version of ChatGPT last summer, triggering automated security warnings and a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) damage assessment, according to a Politico investigation.

Madhu Gottumukkala, the interim head of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), used a special exception he requested to access the AI tool – which was blocked for other DHS employees– to input contracting documents marked ‘For Official Use Only’. The material, while not classified, is considered sensitive and not for public release.

Four DHS officials with knowledge of the incident said cybersecurity sensors at CISA flagged the uploads in early August, prompting a DHS-led internal review to assess potential harm.

It remains unclear what the review concluded. The incident is notable becausepublic ChatGPT uploads are shared with developer OpenAI, potentially exposing government information to the platform’s vast user base. We should have a substantially lower rate now that even this moron admits inflation is no longer a problem or threat. With a mere flip of the pen, $BILLIONS more would come into the U.S.A., and these countries would have to go back to making money the old fashioned way, not on the back of America. I hope they all appreciate, although many don’t, what our great Country has done for them. The Fed should substantially lower interest rates, NOW! Tariffs have made America strong and powerful again, far stronger and more powerful than any other Nation. This is infuriating, and entirely due to something else in the background {GO DEEP}. Former National Security Council member (Russia/EurAsia desk) Alexander Vindman is running for a Florida senate seat against Republican Ashley Moody.

First, Alexander Vindman doesn’t stand a chance at winning; however, that’s not his objective with this announcement. Here is where it becomes important to understand the game.

Vindman is directly tied to the background issue of the fraudulent impeachment effort, which I have been working to bring to the forefront. Progress is agonizingly slow but moving forward.

Alexander Vindman has two primary objectives in announcing this effort: (#1) to give himself the political defense against any accountability for his involvement in the IC coup against President Trump in 2019. By running for the Florida Senate seat, Vindman will claim evidence is only coming to light as an outcome of his seeking elected office, i.e. it is a political attack. And (#2) running for office allows Vindman to accept campaign donations that will ultimately be used in his defense against #1. This is how they roll.

FLORIDA – MIAMI — Democrat Alexander Vindman, the former National Security Council aide who helped trigger President Donald Trump’s first impeachment, announced his Senate campaign in Florida on Tuesday to challenge GOP Sen. Ashley Moody.

Vindman’s entrance into the race pulls Trump’s agenda and record to the forefront of the Senate contest in Florida, bringing a national focus to a race in the president’s home state — one now widely seen as Republican-leaning.
