FBI agents arrested a 58-year-old man near Heber Overgaard, Arizona, last week on a U.S. charge that alleged he incited the violence through comments posted online last December.

A U.S. citizen has been charged in Arizona over online comments that allegedly incited what police describe as a “religiously-motivated terrorist attack” in Australia a year ago in which six people died, officials said Wednesday.
Queensland state police officers Rachel McCrow and Matthew Arnold and innocent bystander Alan Dare were fatally shot by Gareth Train, his brother Nathaniel Train, and Nathanial’s wife Stacey Train in an ambush at the Trains’ remote property in the rural community of Wieambilla last Dec. 12, investigators say.
Four officers had arrived at the property to investigate reports of a missing person. They walked into a hail of gunfire, police said at the time. Two officers managed to escape and raise the alarm.
Police killed the three Trains, who have been described as conspiracy theorists, during a six-hour siege.
FBI agents arrested a 58-year-old man near Heber Overgaard, Arizona, last week on a U.S. charge that alleged he incited the violence through comments posted online last December, Queensland Police Assistant Commissioner Cheryl Scanlon said at a joint news conference in Brisbane with FBI legal attaché for Australia Nitiana Mann. Police did not release the suspect's name.
He was remanded in custody when he appeared in an Arizona court on Tuesday. He faces a potential five-year prison sentence if convicted.
“We know that the offenders executed a religiously-motivated terrorist attack in Queensland,” Scanlon said, referring to the Trains. “They were motivated by a Christian extremist ideology.”
The FBI is still investigating the alleged motive of the American. Queensland police had flown to Arizona to help investigators there.
"The attack involved advanced planning and preparation against law enforcement,” Scanlon said.
Gareth Train began following the suspect on YouTube in May 2020. A year later, they were communicating directly.
“The man repeatedly sent messages containing Christian end-of-days ideology to Gareth and then later to Stacey,” Scanlon said.
Mann said the FBI was committed to assisting the Queensland Police Service in its investigation.
“The FBI has a long memory and an even longer reach. From Queensland, Australia, to the remote corners of Arizona,” Mann said.
“The FBI and QPS worked jointly and endlessly to bring this man to justice, and he will face the crimes he is alleged to have perpetrated,” she added.

PHOENIX — The FBI has arrested an Arizona man in connection to a fatal attack on police last year in Australia for what prosecutors say were threats made against law enforcement and the head of the World Health Organization.
On Friday, agents arrested 58-year-old Donald Day of Heber-Overgaard in Navajo County, Arizona, on two counts of interstate threats, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney's Office. Day was remanded into custody after he appeared in court on Tuesday, court records show.
The first count stems from a video that prosecutors say Day posted on YouTube on Dec. 16, 2022, days after what Australian police have called a "religiously motived terrorist attack" that left six dead, including the three attackers.
In the video, Day referenced the ambush and subsequent standoff and threatened to injure law enforcement officials who came to his residence, according to an indictment filed Nov. 29. Day's YouTube username was "Geronimo's Bones," the indictment said.
"The devils come for us, they ... die. It's just that simple," Day said in the video, according to the indictment.
The second count is connected to a comment prosecutors say Day left in February on a video posted on the video-sharing site BitChute. According to the indictment, the video showed the WHO director-general, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, and included Day saying, "It is time to kill these monsters, and any who serve them. Where are my kind? Where are you? Am I the only one?"

Donald Trump said Tuesday he will not be a dictator “except for day one” if he returns to office in 2025.
In a town hall with Fox News’ Sean Hannity, the former president was pressed on whether he would disavow taking retributive action against all his enemies if he reentered the Oval Office. He initially shied away from responding, but when asked a second time said he would only be a dictator on the first day of his second term. He emphasized that it would be for two specific issues.
“I want to close the border and I want to drill, drill, drill,” Trump said. “Other than that, I am not a dictator.”
The remarks may have been an attempt to defuse an issue that has bubbled up in recent weeks, with various news outlets spotlighting an authoritarian bent of Trump’s proposed second-term approach. But they were also quickly spotlighted by President Joe Biden’s campaign, suggesting that they felt Trump had provided them with ample fodder of his intentions.
“Donald Trump has been telling us exactly what he will do if he’s reelected and tonight he said he will be a dictator on day one. Americans should believe him,” Biden-Harris campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez said in a statement.
Trump also told Hannity he does not expect President Biden to make it as the Democratic nominee in 2024, citing the president’s mental and physical wellbeing.
“I personally don’t think he makes it physically,” Trump said. “Mentally I would say he’s possibly equally as bad and maybe worse.”
Trump, 77, took aim at Biden as the current president faces mounting questions about the implications of his advanced age. Biden, who turned 81 in November, has repeatedly brushed off concerns about his age and ability to adequately perform his duties.
When asked who he thought would replace Biden as the Democratic nominee come next November, Trump indirectly pointed to Gavin Newsom, referencing the California governor’s debate last week.
“I saw him on the debate the other night,” Trump said. “He is slick, but has no facts. I thought he did well.”
Earlier in the day, Biden appeared at a fundraiser where he said he may not be running for reelection right now if he didn’t think Trump would be the Republican nominee. Pressed by reporters whether that meant he would drop out if Trump did as well, he said: “No, not now.”

LUKEVILLE, Ariz. (3TV/CBS 5) - U.S. Customs and Border Protection has announced it will close the Lukeville Port of Entry as the region deals with a surge in migrant crossings.
The temporary suspension takes effect on Monday, Dec. 4. Federal officials say the closure, which affects both pedestrian and vehicle crossings, is necessary to direct personnel to assist U.S. Border Patrol with taking migrants into custody. It’s unclear how long the closure will last, and the move will leave travelers from Puerto Peñasco (Rocky Point), Sonora, to take a much longer detour through Nogales or San Luis, an estimated delay of two to four hours.
“In response to increased levels of migrant encounters at the Southwest Border, fueled by smugglers peddling disinformation to prey on vulnerable individuals, CBP is surging all available resources to expeditiously and safely process migrants. CBP will continue to prioritize our border security mission as necessary in response to this evolving situation,” the agency said in a statement. Lukeville lies in the Border Patrol’s Tucson sector, which was the busiest of nine along the U.S.-Mexico border by far in October.

25 years ago today, the first two modules of the International Space Station – Zarya and Unity – were mated during the STS-88 mission of space shuttle Endeavour. The shuttle’s Canadarm robotic arm reached out and grappled Zarya, which had been on orbit just over two weeks, and attached it to the Unity module stowed inside Endeavour’s payload bay. Endeavour would undock from the young dual-module station one week later beginning the space station assembly era.
The seven-member Expedition 70 crew called down to Earth today and discussed with NASA Associate Administrator Bob Cabana and International Space Station Program Manager Joel Montalbano the orbital outpost’s accomplishments since the assembly era began on Dec. 6, 1998. Cabana was the commander of Endeavour when both modules were robotically mated then outfitted during a series of spacewalks. Montalbano, NASA’s sixth station leader since the program’s inception, remarked today, “We want to celebrate today all the people who designed, built, and operate the International Space Station.”
Meanwhile, a host of space biology work continued aboard the orbital lab on Wednesday to improve human health on Earth and in space. Cargo operations and lab maintenance rounded out the day keeping the four astronauts and three cosmonauts busy during the middle of the week.
Aging studies are taking place on the orbital lab helping researchers understand space-caused accelerated aging symptoms at the molecular and cellular level. NASA Flight Engineers Loral O’Hara and Jasmin Moghbeli took turns processing liver stem samples for the Space AGE study taking place in the Kibo laboratory module. Kibo’s Life Science Glovebox is hosting the research operation that is exploring aging-like properties of immune cells and the regenerative capacity of liver cells.
Mental health and cognition are key concerns for NASA and its international partners as the space agencies plan longer human missions farther away from Earth. Commander Andreas Mogensen wore virtual reality goggles for the VR Mental Care experiment today and watched a 360-degree movie to understand its stabilizing effect on the nervous system. Flight Engineer Satoshi Furukawa took a computerized robotics test for a CIPHER investigation studying how in microgravity affects brain structure, sleep quality, stress, and immune function.
Mogensen from ESA (European Space Agency) and Furukawa from JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) also partnered with O’Hara and Moghbeli transferring payloads in and out of the SpaceX Dragon cargo spacecraft throughout the day. The foursome then spent the rest of Wednesday supporting a variety of other ongoing space research and life support activities.
Veteran cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko tended to eggs being incubated for a Roscosmos space biology study, deployed carbon dioxide monitors, and practiced using emergency masks. Flight Engineer Nikolai Chub worked on an immunity study and continued unpacking cargo from the Progress 86 resupply ship. Flight Engineer Konstantin Borisov started his morning replacing electrical plumbing gear then worked in the afternoon checking smoke detectors and charging a science laptop computer.
