The Biden re-election campaign’s decision to brand the economy under the president’s name (Bidenomics) is looking like an early blunder that misread the public’s deep pessimism about how things are going on that front.

Why it matters: Despite some encouraging economic trends — unemployment is low, inflation seems to be tamed — polling shows that Americans’ overall perception of the economy is sour.

Driving the news: Some prominent Democrats are now openly criticizing the Biden campaign’s strategy, arguing that it appears to be in denial of Americans’ economic reality.

– “We have to do a better job framing this not so much for one person — for the office of the presidency — but for the people,” Rep. Steven Horsford (D-Nev.) told Politico.

– “I’ve never understood why you would brand an economy in your name when the economy hasn’t fully recovered yet,” Michael LaRosa, a former spokesman for Jill Biden, told the publication.

Yale team develops airborne mRNA, delivers it to lungs

In a study on mice, Yale scientists created polymer nanoparticles to encapsulate mRNA, making it inhalable so it can reach the lungs. Courtney Malo, editor of Science Translational Medicine, which published the study, explained:

“The ability to efficiently deliver mRNA to the lung would have applications for vaccine development, gene therapy, and more. Here, Suberi et al. showed that such mRNA delivery can be accomplished by encapsulating mRNAs of interest within optimized poly(amine-co-ester) polyplexes [nanoparticles].

“Polyplex-delivered mRNAs were efficiently translated into protein in the lungs of mice with limited evidence of toxicity. This platform was successfully applied as an intranasal SARS-CoV-2 vaccine, eliciting robust immune responses that conferred protection against subsequent viral challenge. These results highlight the potential of this delivery system for vaccine applications and beyond.

“The team, led by cellular and molecular physiologist Mark Saltzman, explained that the inhalable mRNA vaccine successfully protected against SARS-CoV-2, which “opens the door to delivering other messenger RNA (mRNA) therapeutics for gene replacement therapy and other treatments in the lungs.”

For the study, mice received two intranasal doses of nanoparticles carrying mRNA COVID-19 vaccines, which proved to be effective in the animals.

In the past, lung-targeted mRNA therapies had trouble making it into the cells necessary to express the encoded protein, known as poor transfection efficiency.

“The Saltzman group got around this hurdle in part by using a nanoparticle made from poly(amine-co-ester) polyplexes, or PACE, a biocompatible and highly customizable polymer,” a Yale University news release explained.

In a previous study, Saltzman had tried a “prime and spike” system to deliver COVID-19 shots, which involved injecting mRNA shots into a muscle and then spraying spike proteins into the nose.

It turned out the injection portion may be unnecessary, and Saltzman has high hopes for the airborne delivery method, beyond vaccines:

“In the new report, there is no intramuscular injection. We just gave two doses, a prime and a boost, intranasally, and we got a highly protective immune response. But we also showed that, generally, you can deliver different kinds of mRNA.

“So it’s not just good for a vaccine, but potentially also good for gene replacement therapy in diseases like cystic fibrosis and gene editing.

“We used a vaccine example to show that it works, but it opens the door to doing all these other kinds of interventions.”

Air vax could ‘radically change’ how people are vaccinated

Saltzman says this “new method of delivery could ‘radically change the way people are vaccinated,’” making it easier to vaccinate people in remote areas or those who are afraid of needles.

But that’s not all. An airborne vaccine makes it possible to rapidly disseminate it across a population.

By releasing the vaccine in the air, there’s no need to inject each person individually — which is not only time-consuming but difficult if an individual objects to the shot. This isn’t the case with an airborne vaccine, which can be released into the air without consent or even the public’s knowledge.

Plane Crash in Lake Placid Kills 2, Including Former NFL Player Russ Francis of Patriots, 49ers

LAKE PLACID, N.Y.—Former NFL tight end Russ Francis, a three-time Pro Bowl selection with the New England Patriots who won a Super Bowl with the 1984 San Francisco 49ers, was killed along with another aviation enthusiast when their small plane crashed after takeoff from an upstate New York airport, authorities said Monday.

Mr. Francis, 70, and Richard McSpadden, 63, had just departed from the Lake Placid Airport shortly after 4 p.m. Sunday in a single-engine Cessna 177 when the plane encountered trouble. The New York State Police said the aircraft crashed into an embankment at the corner of the airport.

Mr. Francis was president of Lake Placid Airways, which runs charter and scenic flights. A longtime flying enthusiast, he had been a pilot for nearly 50 years and had run a charter service in Hawaii, according to the airline's website. Mr. McSpadden was a senior vice president of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association and was known as an aviation safety expert. The organization said his career included a stint as commander of the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds.

“Russ was a fan favorite throughout his playing career," Patriots owner Robert Kraft said in a statement. “He was a dynamic player on the field who had an even bigger personality off it. He knew no boundaries, pushed the limits and lived his life to the fullest.”

Mr. Francis joined the San Francisco 49ers in 1982 and was part of the 1984 team that beat Miami in the Super Bowl. He returned to New England in 1987 and retired the year after. In all, he had 393 receptions for 5,262 yards and 40 touchdowns.

The crash is under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board.

Supervisor In Crime-Plagued Blue City Using Family’s Foundation To Bankroll Anti-Cop Groups

Democratic San Francisco Supervisor Dean Preston donated over a million dollars to a family-run trust fund and used his position as trustee and co-founder of the group to direct substantial amounts of his family’s money to anti-cop organizations over the past several years, the Fund’s website shows.

Preston, a self-described democratic socialist who has received criticism from even his Democratic colleagues over his left-leaning policies, gave $565,818 in stock to the Arch Community Fund (ACF) in 2018 and an additional $1.1 million worth of stock in 2019, tax documents from the nonprofit group showed. He also has served as one of the two ACF trustees since 2017, helping to direct funds toward groups that oppose incarceration, the criminal justice system and police, investigative journalist Lee Fang first reported on his Substack.

“Arch Community Fund launched in 2017 in response to the alarming rise of overt racism, xenophobia, homophobia, misogyny, religious intolerance, and corporate dominance in the United States,” the website said. “[T]he founders of the Arch Community Fund felt compelled to invest in efforts to challenge the rise of intolerance and fascism and help build a more equitable society. We are especially concerned with the rise of hateful ideologies of white nationalism in the current political climate.”

Although the ACF has donated to a wide variety of causes, it has given substantial funding to several groups that have heavily campaigned in Oakland, California, to defund the police, including $90,000 to the Anti Police-Terror Project and $125,000 to the Critical Resistance project, the fund’s website shows. Oakland’s crime has worsened since 2020, leading many residents to demand action from their local politicians to improve security in the area.

Despite donating substantial amounts of money to the group and directing where ACF funding goes, Preston does not mention his involvement with the group anywhere on his campaign website or his official supervisor page. While Preston has focused his political career on housing issues and preventing tenants from getting evicted, he has supported moves in office to reduce police funding and restrict how security guards can respond to shoplifting incidents, according to his campaign website.

Preston made headlines in September by telling residents to “not leave anything in the car” to avoid break-ins, but said the city should rely on the DA and police for “the enforcement side of it,” local station ABC7 reported.

ACF has not announced any new donations since 2022, although it pledged funding to Critical Resistance and several other activist groups through 2023, according to the fund’s website.

Preston and the ACF did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s requests for comment.

Americans will soon be able to add shrimp to the list of high-risk meat products getting slipped into the increasingly toxic United States food supply, thanks to an Israeli company that just raised $8.25 million from a group of venture capitalists to start administering oral, RNA-based "vaccine" drugs to the marine life food chain.

Since shrimp are bottom feeders, everything that eats them, including humans, will end up intaking these RNA chemicals through the muscle tissue, or meat, of these animals. Once ViAqua, as the Israeli venture capital operation calls itself, gets its RNA-based vaccine product into ocean life as planned, Americans and the world will have one less safe meat product to consume.

According to reports, ViAqua's RNA-based vaccine, which is still in development, uses ribonucleic acid interference (RNAi) to manipulate the genetic profile of shrimp, essentially turning the sea creatures into living genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

"RNAi is a biological process where RNA molecules are used to inhibit gene expression or translation by neutralizing targeted mRNA molecules," reports Epoch Health about the Frankenfood technology.

(Related: Scientists at MIT have confirmed that RNA vaccines are absorbed through the stomach lining and intestines – this would seem to include mRNA vaccines in animal meat.)

If nobody stops them, the globalists will genetically reengineer the entire "food" supply, creating a global population of GMO "people"

Instead of using needles to inject each and every shrimp – because that would be silly, eh? – ViAqua's mad scientists are planning to "inject" the RNAi poison into the food that shrimp consume. A specially coated feed supplement designed to resist white spot syndrome virus (WSSV) – or so we are told – will be added to farmed shrimp feed in an attempt to stymie the loss of $3 billion worth of shrimp every year.

We are told that 15 percent of the world's shrimp production is lost every year to WSSV, which is what ViAqua says it wants to stop by mass-vaccinating shrimp with RNAi drugs.

"ViAqua suggests RNA molecules can inhibit the expression of genes that cause disease with every meal containing its coated product," reports explain.

Also known as a "nanovaccine," ViAqua's RNAi drug was supposedly found in a 2022 "proof-of-concept" study to be 80 percent effective against WSSV in vivo (in living organisms). At the very same time, the study did not assess the potential long-term impact of creating GMO shrimp – not to mention the long-term impact of what will become of humans who eat them as "food."

"Oral delivery is the holy grail of aquaculture health development due to both the impossibility of vaccinating individual shrimp and its ability to substantially bring down the operational costs of disease management while improving outcomes," proudly announced Shai Ufaz, the CEO of ViAqua.

"We are excited to bring this technology to market to address the need for affordable disease solutions in aquaculture."

The first GMO shrimp from ViAqua is expected to be produced starting in India in the year 2024.

Another company called Genvax Technologies also recently launched a startup to develop mRNA "vaccines" for other animals, having secured $6.5 million in funding to develop a self-amplifying mRNA (saRNA) platform to rapidly develop herd- or flock-specific vaccine injections for all sorts of animal species.

Genvax's approach involves inserting a specific "transgene" or "gene of interest" based on the matched variant strain of a virus or disease. The saRNA portion of the technology then generates an antibody response, we are told, without requiring the entire pathogen to be matched to a given circulating disease strain.

Over 277,000 'Vaccinated' COVID-19 Cases Hidden By CDC In 2021: Newly Obtained Files Show

Some 144,349 cases among partially vaccinated people were reported by 32 jurisdictions to the CDC across three months in 2021, according to some of the files, which were acquired by The Epoch Times through the Freedom of Information Act.

Partially vaccinated has been defined by the CDC as a person who received at least one dose of a vaccine. People were described as fully vaccinated if at least 14 days had elapsed since they completed a primary series.

The Moderna and Pfizer primary series consisted of two doses while Johnson & Johnson's consisted of one dose.

The cases were recorded in California, Maryland, New York, Texas, and 28 other jurisdictions in April, May, and June 2021 and reported to the CDC.

The CDC never disclosed the numbers to the public.

"These data on partially vaccinated persons were not reported publicly but rather, were collected to ensure that that they were being appropriately excluded from the numbers of vaccine breakthrough cases as described as a best practice on the CDC website," staffers at the CDC's National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases told The Epoch Times in a letter.

On a webpage advising state and local officials on how to analyze patterns of COVID-19 by vaccination status, the CDC recommends excluding people who only received one Moderna or Pfizer dose or analyzing them separately.

The exclusion is recommended "because only people that have received all of the recommended primary series doses and have had the required duration of time to form a protective immunological response after vaccination (14 days, per the definition) would be expected to receive the full benefit of the COVID-19 vaccination," the CDC said. "In general, the immunological response to a primary vaccination series usually takes 2–4 weeks. Only partial protection is provided to partially vaccinated persons."

Stopped Reporting

The CDC stopped reporting post-vaccination infections among the fully vaccinated, or breakthrough cases, in May 2021, after disclosing that 10,262 breakthrough infections were reported to the agency by 46 jurisdictions through April 30, 2021.

The CDC said that 995 of the cases resulted in hospitalization and 160 resulted in death.

The CDC said it shifted to only reporting breakthrough cases that resulted in hospitalization or death "to help maximize the quality of the data collected on cases of greatest clinical and public health importance."

It's not clear how many infections in the partially vaccinated that the CDC did not disclose before led to hospitalization or death.

Last week it was reported there’s been a significant uptick in missing kids in Ohio.

Today Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost announced that a recent statewide crackdown on human trafficking has led to the arrest of over 160 people, including a former employee of a local university and members of the United States Air Force.

Operation Buyer’s Remorse was a weeklong crackdown that sought to arrest those trying to buy sex and to identify survivors of human trafficking.

Les Wexner, who funded Jeffrey Epstein, is based in Ohio. His companies were also based there and Epstein owned the home across the street from Wexner. Between the spike in missing kids and these recent human trafficking-related arrests, is there a connection to Epstein’s network?

Frederick Douglass Moorefield, Jr., a Deputy Chief Information Officer for Command, Control, and Communications at the Office of the US Secretary of Defense, was arrested and charged with running a dogfighting ring for more than 20 years, according to the DOJ’s press release.

Moorefield, 62, of Arnold, Maryland, was arrested alongside Mario Damon Flythe, 49, of Glen Burnie, Maryland. Both men face federal charges for promoting and furthering an animal fighting venture.

The criminal complaint was filed on September 21, 2023, and unsealed at the defendants’ initial court appearances on Thursday, September 28, 2023.

U.S. Magistrate Judge J. Mark Coulson ordered that both defendants be released pending trial under the supervision of U.S. Pretrial Services.

The investigation revealed that Moorefield and Flythe used encrypted messaging applications to communicate with individuals throughout the United States to discuss dogfighting.

Moorefield operated under the name “Geehad Kennels,” while Flythe used the name “Razor Sharp Kennels” to identify their respective dogfighting operations. The duo discussed training methods, exchanged videos about dogfighting, and coordinated dogfights. They also discussed betting on dogfights and circulated media reports about dogfighters who had been caught by law enforcement.

On September 6, 2023, law enforcement officers executed search warrants at the residences of Moorefield and Flythe in Maryland. Twelve dogs were recovered and seized by the federal government. Additionally, officers found veterinary steroids, training schedules, a carpet stained with blood, and a weighted dog vest with a patch reading “Geehad Kennels.”A device consisting of an electrical plug and jumper cables was also seized, suspected of being used to execute dogs lost in dogfights.

If convicted, Moorefield and Flythe each face a maximum sentence of only five years in federal prison for “for possessing, training, or transporting animals for participation in an animal fighting venture.”

Lt. Cmdr. Tim Gorman, a Pentagon spokesman, said in a statement on Monday that the Defense Department was “aware of the criminal complaint” filed against Moorefield in federal district court in Baltimore.

“We can confirm that the individual is no longer in the workplace, but we cannot comment further on an individual personnel matter,” Gorman said. He did not say if Moorefield had been suspended, terminated or allowed to retire.

An affidavit written by FBI Special Agent Ryan C. Daly indicated that authorities have been investigating the dogfighting ring, which called itself “the DMV Board,” for years. Nine fellow dog-fighters were indicted in Virginia last year, and eight have pleaded guilty and cooperated with investigators. Members communicated on the “Telegram” messaging app about training fighting dogs, exchanging videos, arranging fights and wagers, and comparing methods of killing dogs who lost fights, the affidavit states.

Online records maintained by the dogs’ owners showed that Moorefield had been involved in dogfighting “since at least 2002,” Daly wrote, and evidence of Moorefield’s training for fights, or refereeing other owners’ dog fights, was found periodically over the years, including extensive messaging lining up fights and prize money. Evidence indicated some fights occurred earlier this year, despite the arrests of others in the ring, and that Moorefield and Flythe were “experimenting with different types of performance enhancing drugs to improve [their] chances of winning dogfights.”

The Federal Communications Commission announced Monday it has fined Dish Network $150,000 for a retired satellite that was left in the wrong place in space as concerns about space trash grow.

The FCC said it was the first enforcement action it's ever taken regarding space debris, or defunct human-made objects that are no longer used but left in space.

Dish reached a settlement with the FCC, in which the company admitted liability for not properly disposing of its EchoStar-7 satellite at the end of its mission. EchoStar-7 was initially launched in 2002.

In a statement, the FCC said Dish left the retired satellite at a "disposal orbit well below the elevation" that was required. Under a plan approved by the FCC in 2012, Dish committed to relocating the satellite at the end of its mission to about 186 miles above its operational geostationary arc.

Instead, after realizing in 2022 that the satellite was low on propellant and would not be able to reach that altitude, Dish retired the satellite only about 76 miles above that operational arc. The FCC said the lower disposal orbit could pose space debris concerns.

"Orbital debris in space jeopardizes the nation's terrestrial and space-based communication systems by increasing the risk of damage to satellite communications systems," the FCC said in its consent decree.

Loyaan A. Egal, the FCC Enforcement Bureau chief, said it was a "breakthrough settlement" that shows the agency "has strong enforcement authority and capability to enforce its vitally important space debris rules."

"As satellite operations become more prevalent and the space economy accelerates, we must be certain that operators comply with their commitments," he said.

In a statement provided to Insider, a Dish spokesperson noted that the FCC's Enforcement Bureau "made no specific findings that EchoStar-7 poses any orbital debris safety concerns."

"DISH has a long track record of safely flying a large satellite fleet and takes seriously its responsibilities as an FCC licensee," the spokesperson said.

As more and more companies send objects into space, there are increasing concerns about space trash.

NASA last month awarded the company TransAstra an $850,000 contract to work on the possibility of cleaning up space garbage with a large "capture bag" that the company calls Flytrap.

"Space junk is one of the greatest perils that astronauts face in low Earth orbit today," Joel C. Sercel, a former astronaut and the founder of TransAstra, previously told Insider.

Space junk has also already crashed on land, prompting fear that it could someday strike a person.

Air Force Research Lab awards design contracts for nuclear powered spacecraft

Intuitive Machines, Lockheed Martin and Westinghouse Government Services won contracts from the Air Force Research Laboratory to advance technologies for nuclear powered space vehicles.

The project is part of an AFRL Space Vehicles Directorate program called Joint Emergent Technology Supplying On-orbit Nuclear Power, or JETSON.

The goal of the project is to advance nuclear fission technology to produce small power reactors for space vehicles. AFRL is seeking a reliable and constant source of electricity for satellites.

The contracts were announced Sept. 29.

Intuitive Machines, a startup based in Houston that specializes in space infrastructure, received a $9.4 million contract to design a spacecraft concept that employs compact radioisotope power system, electric or hybrid propulsion.

Westinghouse Government Services, based in Hopkins, South Carolina, won a $16.9 million contract to “mature relevant technologies, conduct analyses, trade studies, and explore risk reduction strategies to investigate how a high power, nuclear fission-system could be implemented from a subsystem, spacecraft, and architecture standpoint.”

Lockheed Martin Space, based in Denver, was awarded a $33.7 million contract “to mature the technical design of the JETSON spacecraft systems and subsystems to a preliminary design review level of maturity, and to fully develop the overall program development and test program planning through critical design review.”

All three contracts extend through December 2025.

The three vendors were selected by NASA in June 2022 for phase 1 studies of fission surface power systems, small nuclear reactors intended to support later phases of the Artemis lunar exploration campaign. Each team received $5 million for initial design studies.

On Oct. 1, 1958, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) officially began operations. President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed into law the National Aeronautics and Space Act the previous July, creating NASA to lead America’s civilian space program in response to Soviet advances in space exploration. T. Keith Glennan and Hugh L. Dryden were sworn in as NASA’s first administrator and deputy administrator, respectively. As its core, the new agency incorporated the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA), founded in 1915 to advance aeronautics research in the United States. The NACA elements included three large research laboratories and two small test facilities. Projects and facilities transferred from other agencies to augment NASA’s capabilities. Within days of opening, NASA began work on America’s first human spaceflight program.

In a filmed address delivered to all NACA employees shortly before the transition, Glennan explained that the change to the new organization should not affect their daily lives, even though the new agency would over time take on more responsibilities. Indeed, the transition for the existing 8,000 NACA employees proved rather seamless. They went home on Sept. 30 as NACA employees and reported for work on Oct. 1 as NASA employees, without change to their daily routines. On Oct. 1, Glennan addressed the 170-member headquarters staff in the courtyard of the Dolley Madison House on Lafayette Square in Washington, D.C., that served as NASA’s first headquarters.

Three NACA research laboratories – Langley Aeronautical Laboratory in Hampton, Virginia; Ames Aeronautical Laboratory in Mountain View, California; and Lewis Flight Propulsion Laboratory in Cleveland, Ohio – and two small test facilities – the Muroc Dry Lake in California’s high desert for high-speed flight research, and one for sounding rockets at Wallops Island in Virginia – transferred to NASA on Oct. 1, with a total of 8,000 employees and an annual budget of $100 million. By Dec. 31, 1958, NASA had absorbed elements of the Army Ballistic Missile Agency in Huntsville, Alabama, the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, D.C., including its Project Vanguard, and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, a contractor facility operated by the California Institute of Technology. These added 420 employees and 2,300 contractors to the workforce and brought the agency’s appropriations to more than $330 million. It also acquired a high-priority rocket engine development project from the U.S. Air Force. Over time, the Agency established or incorporated additional centers and facilities to meet the growing needs of the nation’s space program. Today, 10 field centers across the nation work together to accomplish NASA’s varied missions.

The plan will allow for a peaceful resolution of the conflict in the interest of all parties, Algiers claims

The military government of Niger has accepted Algeria’s offer to mediate in its political crisis, which was prompted by a coup in July that removed President Mohammed Bazoum from office, the Algerian Foreign Ministry announced on Monday.

This development “reinforces the option of a political solution to this crisis and opens the way to the meeting of the conditions which will allow it to be overcome peacefully in the interest of Niger and the entire region,” the ministry said in a statement.

Algiers has repeatedly opposed military intervention in Niger, which the West African regional authority ECOWAS has threatened to use against Niamey’s coup leaders if they fail to reinstate Bazoum.

The North African country announced in August a six-month transitional plan to restore constitutional and democratic order in neighboringNiger after allegedly rejecting a request from France to fly over its airspacefor an armed operation in Niamey.

The initiative from Algiers came in response to Nigerien military ruler General Abdourahmane Tchiani’s proposal to return the West African country to civilian rule within three years, a timeline ECOWAS called a “provocation.”

Ahmed Attaf, Algeria’s foreign minister, who put forth the framework in late August, said the six-point mediation initiative includes the development of political arrangements with the acceptance of all parties involved in the crisis.

The Algerian government said on Monday that it had received an approval notification of the settlement plan from Niger’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, weeks after President Abdelmadjid Tebboune presented the proposal.

President Tebboune had instructed Attaf “to go to Niamey as soon as possible” to “initiate preparatory discussions on the implementation of the Algerian initiative with all stakeholders,” the Algerian Foreign Ministry stated.

Hunter Biden pleaded not guilty Tuesday to an illegal gun possession charge, marking the latest chapter in his troubled life just as his father President Joe Biden accelerates his campaign for reelection next year.

Hunter Biden, 53, arrived in federal court in his family hometown of Wilmington, Delaware, without speaking to waiting reporters.

He entered a not guilty plea to three felony charges stemming from his purchase of a .38-caliber Colt Cobra revolver in 2018 when, by his own admission, he was heavily addicted to drugs and barely in control of his life.

Hunter Biden is charged with two counts of making false statements for claiming on forms required for the gun purchase that he was not using drugs illegally at the time.

He faces a third charge, based on the same statements, that he illegally possessed the gun — which he had for only 11 days in October 2018 — before he got rid of it.

Hunter Biden’s multiple legal troubles and controversies — which extend to facing ferocious accusations from Republican politicians that he engaged in corrupt business practices in China and Ukraine — are a constant drag on his father’s political standing as he seeks a second term in 2024.

Republicans have opened an impeachment inquiry in Congress on what they claim is a Biden family criminal conspiracy but have provided no evidence that the president did anything wrong.In response to the constant drip-drip of scandal, Joe Biden has repeatedly said he stands by his son and loves him for his attempts to recover from drug addiction.

Hunter Biden’s lawyer, Abbe Lowell, had asked Judge Christopher Burke to allow Biden, who lives in California, to appear by video instead of in person but the request was denied.

“The defendant should not receive any special treatment in this matter,” Burke wrote in his ruling.

If convicted, Hunter Biden could in theory face 25 years in prison, though in practice such offenses, if not accompanied by other charges, are seldom punished by any jail time.

In July, a plea bargain between Hunter Biden and federal prosecutor David Weiss — which would have erased the gun charges while Biden pleaded guilty to two tax charges and avoided prison — fell apart.

Japan startup unveils 15-foot robot suit for space exploration

Engineers in Japan have created a 3.5-ton robot suit that resembles a character from a hugely popular animation series, which they hope to use for space exploration and in emergency situations.

Tokyo-based start-up Tsubame Industries developed the 4.5-metre-tall (14.8-feet), four-wheeled Archax robot that looks like “Mobile Suit Gundam” from the 1970s Japanese show of the same name.

Named after the avian dinosaur archaeopteryx, the $3 million (£2.5m) robot has cockpit monitors that receive images from cameras hooked up to the exterior so that the pilot can manoeuvre the arms and hands with joysticks from inside its torso.

The robot, which will be unveiled at the Japan Mobility Show later this month, has two modes: the upright ‘robot mode’ and a ‘vehicle mode’ in which it can travel up to 10 km (6 miles) per hour.

“Japan is very good at animation, games, robots and automobiles so I thought it would be great if I could create a product that compressed all these elements into one,” said Ryo Yoshida, the 25-year-old chief executive of Tsubame Industries.

“I wanted to create something that says, ‘This is Japan’.”

Mr Yoshida plans to build and sell five of the machines for the well-heeled robot fan, but hopes the robot could one day be used for disaster relief or in the space industry.

Mr Yoshida became interested in manufacturing at an early age, learning how to weld at his grandfather’s ironworks and then going on to found a company that produces myoelectric prosthetic hands. He said he is eager to keep Japan’s competitive edge in manufacturing alive.

“I hope to learn from previous generations and carry on the tradition,” he said.

Tsubame Industries is one of several startups working on robotic exoskeletons, with applications ranging from assisting delivery workers with heavy loads, to military “super soldier” suits.

The US military has already unveiled several exoskeleton prototypes, with one such device claiming to offer Marines the strength and ability of up to 10 troops.

“The ultimate goal is to provide troops with an edge by boosting their capabilities and dramatically improving safety and productivity in a variety of logistics applications,” the company behind it, Sarcos Robotics, said in 2020.

Oct 2 (Reuters) - Spirit AeroSystems (SPR.N) CEO Tom Gentile has stepped down in the wake of a series of industrial difficulties, with the major aerospace supplier naming former Boeing (BA.N) executive and Pentagon official Patrick Shanahan as his interim replacement.

Shanahan, who has served on the company's board since November 2021, will become interim CEO effective immediately, Spirit announced Monday.

Spirit said its board will conduct a search to identify a new CEO, while Gentile will stay on as a consultant for three months.

Spirit shares have fallen 45% since the beginning of the year due to financial difficulties, including a two-week work stoppage at its Kansas-based production plant this summer, the discovery of several costly 737 production errors, and more than $200 million in losses on Airbus and Boeing plane production programs.

Shares of Spirit were up 0.2% in early trading.

Gentile was named Spirit's CEO in August 2016, months after he joined the company as its chief operating officer. He oversaw the company during the 737 MAX crisis and pandemic, steering plans to diversify Spirit revenues with more defense and aftermarket work.

The last months of his tenure were marked by a series of supply chain challenges and production defects, most recently misdrilled holes on the 737 MAX aft pressure bulkhead.

In September, Gentile said current contracts with Boeing and Airbus were "not sustainable" due to rising inflation and needed to be renegotiated.

BATTLING STRONG HEADWINDS

Sources said Gentile's position had looked increasingly vulnerable for weeks as support ebbed away from investors and, most critically, the major customer Boeing.

Gentile's departure was a "foregone conclusion" given Spirit's current financial difficulties, but "it's hard to see how anyone could have coped with the headwinds," said Richard Aboulafia, an aerospace analyst with AeroDynamic Advisories.

However, "Shanahan is one of the few people who could be up to the job" given his close relationship with Boeing - Spirit's top customer - and reputation for execution, Aboulafia added.

Over a 31-year career at Boeing, Shanahan was known as "Mr. Fix-It" for his ability to turn around poorly-performing programs. He was put in charge of the 787 Dreamliner in 2008 during a troubled time in the program's development and rose to become Boeing's senior vice president for supply chain and operations in 2016.

His career with Boeing ended in 2017, when he became deputy secretary of defense. He was tapped to succeed Jim Mattis as defense secretary in May 2019, but withdrew in June 2019.

Shanahan said in a statement he intends to stabilize Spirit's operations and "optimize" cash flow.

"I believe Spirit possesses the assets, know-how and talent to satisfy the extraordinary aviation demand and mitigate global supply chain challenges," he said.

Areas where Shanahan may aim to put focus include preparing for upcoming production ramp-ups and reviewing contracts with Airbus, Boeing and other customers, said Alex Krutz, founder of the Patriot Industrial Partners consulting group. The timing of the announcement could also allow Shanahan to meet with key customers and suppliers at an Aerospace Industries Association meeting convening in Wichita, Kansas on Tuesday.

A University of South Carolina student says she and others found flyers on the Columbia campus Monday reading "IT'S OKAY TO BE WHITE."

Vaidehi Gajjar, a USC student, posted a photo on Facebook Monday showing the sign. Gajjar says she found the sign taped to the door of the university's Coker Life Sciences building.

Fellow students responding to Gajjar's Facebook post reported they also saw the flyers at other campus buildings. USC officials confirmed in a statement to WIS-TV Monday that the fliers were found elsewhere on campus.

In their statement, university officials said: "The University of South Carolina and the Carolina Family remain steadfastly committed to the principles set forth in the Carolinian Creed to “respect the dignity of all persons,' to 'discourage bigotry, while striving to learn from differences in people, ideas, and opinions,' and to 'demonstrate concern for others, their feelings, and their needs for conditions which support their work and development.'"

According to the Washington Post, the flyers have been appearing frequently on college campuses around the U.S.

Operation Highlights from the Ohio Attorney General

The H.E.A.L. Human Trafficking Task Force, consisting of the Huron, Erie, Ashland and Lorain Sheriff’s Offices, along with the Northeast Ohio Human Trafficking Task Force, conducted a search warrant on an illicit massage parlor in Lorain County. The search warrant resulted in the seizure of more than $49,000 and furthered an active investigation into criminal activity and potential human trafficking.

The Columbus Division of Police’s PACT Unit (Police and Community Together) made 62 arrests over five days. The unit arrested Delbert Thomas, 75, of Columbus twice on the same day. After the first arrest, Thomas sought to buy sex in a different area of the city and was arrested a second time. The PACT Unit also arrested Joseph Henry, 47, of Columbus, who is a registered sex offender.

The Toledo Police Department and U.S. Border Patrol served search warrants on five illicit massage parlors. The search led to the seizure of $25,000 and numerous electronic devices associated with the businesses. Kwi Hood, Ziaojing Yuan, Chunya Jiao, Junjuan Tao, Young Stone, and Xiaoyan Gou are all facing charges of promoting prostitution.

The Summit Regional Human Trafficking Task Force served four search warrants on illicit massage parlors as part of ongoing investigations. Seven survivors of human trafficking were offered social services.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office arrested one individual for felony possession of narcotics.

The Montgomery County Human Trafficking Task Force conducted a john sting operation and arrested Shawn Ryken, a staff sergeant, and Jason Goins, a major, from the U.S. Air Force, as well as Michael Masterson, an administrator at the University of Dayton, and Ramesh Karki, a professor at Indiana University.

The Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force arrested Jordan Perez, 35, of Masury, Ohio, on charges of engaging in prostitution and possessing criminal tools. Perez brought a firearm to buy sex – but did not bring any money. He claimed he intended to pay for sexual services via a web app.

The Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office and Lancaster Police Department arrested Nick Claybourn, 29, of Rushville on charges of engaging in prostitution. Claybourn is a sixth-grade teacher in the Fairfield Union Local School District.

During their operation, the Southeast Ohio Human Trafficking Task Force had several encounters with individuals that led to felony arrests. Ethan Ross, 22, of Lowell, was arrested on an active warrant for kidnapping, a first-degree felony, and on a felonious assault charge, a second-degree felony. Jamey Lacy, 46, of Zanesville, was arrested and charged with trafficking in drugs in a school zone, a fifth-degree felony, possession of a controlled substance, a fifth-degree felony, and soliciting, a third-degree felony. The task force also executed a search warrant on a suspected massage parlor in Belpre.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and Department of Public Safety offered services to 37 potential victims of human trafficking during two daylong outreach events.

National Democrats led by far left attorney Marc Elias are suing the state of Wisconsin to block absentee voter witness requirements.

Elias and Democrats want to rid US elections of rules and procedures that prevent Democrats from cheating and stealing votes. This is their latest action.

The current Wisconsin law requires a witness sign and address an absentee ballot envelope. This makes it harder for Democrats to cheat. Of course, Democrats want this eliminated.

When liberal Democrats like Elias can’t legislate their radical agenda to foist upon all Americans, they simply file lawsuits with friendly circuit courts in hopes of accomplishing their radical agenda.

The AP reported:

A national Democratic law firm on Monday challenged Wisconsin’s witness requirements for absentee voting, arguing that the state is violating the federal Voting Rights Act by demanding a witness signature on ballot envelopes.

Elias Law Group, representing four Wisconsin voters, called the requirement a “burden” to voters in the lawsuit, which they filed in federal court against the Wisconsin Elections Commission and other elections officials.

State law requires clerks to reject absentee ballots that are missing a witness’ address or signature. A Wisconsin judge ruled last year that elections officials cannot correct or fill in missing information on witness certifications, a practice known as ballot curing.

The Voting Rights Act prohibits states from requiring a voter to “prove his qualifications by the voucher of registered voters or members of any other class.”

Ukraine Accused Of Using Cluster Bombs On Russian Village Near Border

Russian officials have accused Ukraine forces of using cluster munitions against civilian targets. The governor of Russia's Bryansk region on Tuesday said that a Russian village came under attack which lies near the border.

Gov. Alexander Bogomaz announced on Telegram that cluster bomblets were observed in a cross-border attack on the village of Klimovo, but no casualties have been reported.

Reuters said it wasn't able to independently verify the claim, for which there was no immediately available visual evidence. "The governor of Russia's Bryansk region has alleged Ukraine used cluster munitions on a Russian village near the Ukrainian border, hitting several houses," EuroNews reports.

Russian border regions like Bryansk and Belgorod in particular have come under frequent indiscriminate shelling throughout at least the last year of war.

It was only in this past summer that Washington escalated its support to Kiev through the supply of cluster munitions, a weapon type currently banned by more than 120 countries:

Washington controversially supplied Kyiv with cluster bombs in July - which was blasted as a "terrible mistake" by politicians and rights groups.

...Like a shotgun, they splatter explosive submunitions over an area as big as several football fields. These can then lie dormant like landmines, killing and maiming civilians years after a conflict has finished.

The Biden administration late last month announced it would likely include more cluster bombs in the next weapons package for Ukraine, which will draw on previously approved funds.

A series of cartel banners signed by the Chapitos faction of the Sinaloa Cartel point to an apparent order by the criminal organization to stop all production, trade, and shipments of fentanyl on their turf. The banner comes as international tensions rise as fentanyl deaths set records in the U.S.

Unknown cartel members hung the banners signed by Los Chapitos throughout the cities of Culiacan, Mazatlan, Guamichil, and others in Sinaloa. In the banners, the criminal organization claims that news outlets falsely blame them and that the government is refusing to go after the real producers of the drug.

In the banners, the Chapitos ordered a full stop to all production, shipping, sale, and distribution of fentanyl on their turfs. The group claims that there would be consequences for those who disobey the order.

“We never have and never will be related to this business,” the banner states.

Despite the claims in the banner, the U.S. Department of Justice has publicly identified the Chapitos as the largest producer and distributor of fentanyl. Chapitos is the name used for the faction of the Sinaloa Cartel that is run by the sons of jailed drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman. Last month, Mexico extradited Ovidio “El Raton” Guzman, one of El Chapo’s sons and member of Los Chapitos, who is wanted on several drug trafficking and money laundering charges, Breitbart Texas reported.

Email Shows Weiss Violated DOJ Policy By Sending Letters To Cover For Garland

Now we know it wasn’t merely ‘unusual’ for Weiss to respond on behalf of the attorney general — it was in apparent violation of DOJ policy.

The Department of Justice directed Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss not to respond to congressional inquiries, according to an email provided exclusively to The Federalist. That same email stressed that under DOJ policy, only its Office of Legislative Affairs, or OLA, can respond to requests from the legislative branch.

Yet Weiss would later sign and dispatch a letter to the House Judiciary Committee in response to an inquiry sent directly to Attorney General Merrick Garland. And in that letter, Weiss misleadingly claimed he had “been granted ultimate authority over” the Hunter Biden investigation. The DOJ’s disregard of its own policy provides further proof that both Garland and Weiss intended to obfuscate the reality that Weiss never held the reins of the Hunter Biden investigation.

On May 9, 2022, Republican Sens. Chuck Grassley of Iowa and Ron Johnson of Wisconsin wrote to Delaware U.S. Attorney Weiss inquiring about several aspects of the Hunter Biden investigation. After the senators sent a follow-up email to the Delaware U.S. attorney’s office requesting a response by week’s end, Delaware’s First Assistant U.S. Attorney Shannon Hanson asked the DOJ about protocol and then updated Weiss, stating in an email:

Consistent with my conversation with [redacted] last night, we are supposed to forward this and any other correspondence to OLA. Per DOJ policy, only OLA can respond on behalf of the Department to a request from the legislative branch.

On June 9, 2022, the OLA, as provided for in the DOJ’s policy, responded to Grassley and Johnson’s letter. The following month, Grassley and Johnson dispatched a second letter to Weiss, as well as Attorney General Merrick Garland and FBI Director Christopher Wray. In an email reviewed by The Federalist, the Office of Legislative Affairs told Weiss’s office it would “take the lead on drafting a response” to Grassley and Johnson’s letter.

The Heritage Foundation’s Oversight Project obtained these emails and the most recent one revealing the DOJ’s policy that only the “OLA can respond on behalf of the Department to a request from the legislative branch,” after its Director Mike Howell filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the DOJ. The email to Weiss summarizing the DOJ policy contained in this latest batch of court-ordered disclosures proves huge given the sequence of events that occurred earlier this year.

On May 25, 2023, House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland questioning him about the removal of the IRS whistleblowers from the Hunter Biden investigation. Although Jordan directed his inquiry to Garland, on June 7, 2023, Weiss dispatched a letter to the House Judiciary chair, noting in his opening: “Your May 25th letter to Attorney General Garland was forwarded to me, with a request that I respond on behalf of the Department.”
