Eighty-seven congressional Republicans are demanding answers from the U.S. Army after one of its bases got caught referring to pro-life organizations as “terrorist groups.”

“The American public expects the Department of Defense and its personnel to defend the homeland from actual terrorists, not Americans who seek protections for children in the womb,” a letter sent to Army Secretary Christine Wormuth on Friday and obtained by The Federalist reads.

Spearheaded by Sen. Ted Budd, R-N.C., and Rep. Richard Hudson, R-N.C., the probe seeks to uncover information about an anti-terrorism briefing slide recently used by Fort Liberty (formerly known as Fort Bragg) that classified pro-life groups such as National Right to Life and Operation Rescue as threats to the American homeland.

First reported Wednesday by self-described analyst Sam Shoemate on X, the slideshow presentation listed features of these so-called “anti-abortion” groups, such as their opposition to Roe v. Wade and what types of activities they partake in. According to Shoemate, the pro-life slide “followed right after a slide about ISIS, a terror group in the Middle East.”

Fort Liberty’s public affairs office confirmed the slide’s authenticity to The Federalist on Thursday, claiming they were “not vetted by the appropriate approval authorities” and “will no longer be used” in future trainings. The office did not, however, respond to The Federalist’s follow-up inquiry on whether the “local garrison employee” responsible for creating the slides has been or will be punished or fired for their conduct.

“While Ft. Liberty’s statement asserts that the slides ‘do not reflect the views of the … U.S. Army or the Department of Defense’, the American people are rightfully concerned that training of this kind is being disseminated in the first place and possibly at other military installations,” Republicans’ letter to Wormuth reads. “The American people deserve to be assured that these slides truly do not reflect the Army’s views, that a full investigation will be conducted, and that any offending employees will be properly held accountable.”

Republicans demanded Wormuth provide more details on the aforementioned slides and individuals responsible for vetting such materials. They additionally requested the Army secretary explain what specific actions the branch is taking “to investigate the distribution of training materials depicting Pro-Life Americans as terrorists” and what “statutes or Army regulations were potentially violated and what action is the Army taking with regard to any offending employee.”

Demands that Wormuth commit to conducting an “installation-by-installation review” to determine whether such materials are being used at other bases and ensuring they will no longer be utilized by the Army are also included in the letter. Wormuth has until July 29 to respond to Republicans’ inquiry, according to the document.

“When the federal statutes speak of ‘the election’… they plainly refer to the combined actions of voters and officials meant to make a final selection of an officeholder… By establishing a particular day as ‘the day’ on which these actions must take place, the statutes simply regulate the time of the election, a matter on which the Constitution explicitly gives Congress the final say.”  Foster v. We will take a closer at this binding precedent below, but in preview, please understand that it emanates from a 9-0 decision of the United States Supreme Court, wherein the entire Court joined, not just the outcome, but also the opinion on this very point.

The voters vote.  The officials count.  These combined actions form “the election,” and the election must be decided on the day.  States that failed to make a final selection of officeholder by midnight after Election Day have violated the statute, subjecting the nation at large to the very evils Congressionally mandated deadlines were drafted to prevent. 

Federal Election Day statutes were designed to curtail fraud, and to infuse a prima facie sense of integrity in our electoral process.  But these States – in failing to obey Congressional deadlines – have flagrantly attempted to preempt federal law.  This is certainly prohibited, and this is why the late election results are void.

More Bad News on the Electric Vehicle Front

Suffice to say, all is not well for the Electric Vehicle (EV) industry these days. Despite ample subsidies from the federal government, EV sales are slumping.

Some of the largest automakers, such as Mercedes Benz, admit they won’t come close to hitting their EV sales estimates over the next few years. And Tesla, the king of EVs, just announced its lowest quarterly profit over the past two years. After the Tesla news broke, the company’s shares cratered, leading to a $138 billion decline in value.

Even worse, Hyundai Motor North America is facing a lawsuit that contends the auto manufacturer “has emphasized sales-volume growth in its Hyundai branded EVs, leading the public to believe these increasing EV sales are occurring organically because of the desirability of Hyundai EVs and customer demand for these vehicles.”

What’s more, the lawsuit, filed by Napleton Aurora Imports, a dealership based in the Chicago suburbs, alleges Hyundai pressured dealerships to “artificially inflate” EV sales numbers; created a perverse incentive system in which dealerships that “played ball” were rewarded while those who did not were “punished,” issued several press releases trumpeting “fake” EV sales figures, “created a multitiered scheme to cause its dealers to report false [EV] sales,” and deliberately pushed a “false narrative” that its EV sales were due to “organic growth fueled by desirable vehicles and consumer demand.”

Aside from the lackluster sales figures and alleged scams, the EV industry is facing several vexing problems that seem almost insurmountable at this point in time.

For instance, over this summer alone, there have been numerous reports of people being trapped inside EVs due to dead batteries. In some of these cases, toddlers have been locked inside of sweltering cars.

In one example, on June 20, Renee Sanchez was eager to take her two-year-old granddaughter to the Phoenix Zoo. Early that morning, Sanchez strapped the toddler into the backseat of her Model Y Tesla. After closing the rear door, Sanchez attempted to open the front door. However, it would not open because the battery was dead.

I know this is too long too read, but if interested, read on….I am trying to conceive what possible way they might try to cheat and could it be via the ‘popular vote’?

The electors of the Electoral College met this afternoon in their respective states and anointed as president the candidate who won the popular vote in a larger number of states — Donald Trump — regardless of the fact that another candidate — Hillary Clinton — won the larger number of votes by several million.

The ACLU has opposed the Electoral College since 1969 for non-partisan reasons. By now — everyone, Republicans, Democrats, and none-of-the-aboves — should be fed up with its undemocratic and unpredictable nature.

Unfortunately, amending the Constitution to eliminate this atavistic system is a practical impossibility for the same reason the Electoral College is a problem: The less populous states have a disproportionate share of voting power. Constitutional amendments require approval by three-quarters of the states, not a national majority or even super-majority of voters. The Homeland Intelligence Experts Group convened by the Department of Homeland Security, disbanded under a settlement with America First Legal, called President Biden an "ineffective messenger" for the group's surreptitious campaign to convince the public that supporters of former President Trump are the bulk of "domestic violent extremists."

Previous disclosures in the #DeepStateDiaries series showed the group proposed a reboot of September 11, 2001-style messaging against domestic wrongthink, called the "religious" and members of the military comparable threats as Trump supporters, and brainstormed how to convince parents and teachers to report students to the feds as potential extremists as a matter of "public health."

Members also referred to a Biden White House "classified implementation plan" against domestic wrongthink.

The September 2023 meeting notes, which redact the names of each speaker, record discussion of who might be the "right messengers" for the group's narrative. "This has to come from the White House" to "restore faith in the government," one participant said. "Each agency cannot defend itself" against outside criticism."

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A federal appeals court panel ruled 2-1 on Friday that Tennessee does not unconstitutionally discriminate against transgender people by not allowing them to change the sex designation on their birth certificates.

“There is no fundamental right to a birth certificate recording gender identity instead of biological sex,” 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Jeffrey Sutton wrote for the majority in the decision upholding a 2023 district court ruling. The plaintiffs could not show that Tennessee’s policy was created out of animus against transgender people as it has been in place for more than half a century and “long predates medical diagnoses of gender dysphoria,” Sutton wrote.

He noted that “States’ practices are all over the map.” Some allow changes to the birth certificate with medical evidence of surgery. Others require lesser medical evidence. Only 11 states currently allow a change to a birth certificate based solely on a person’s declaration of their gender identity, which is what the plaintiffs are seeking in Tennessee.

The federal government is all in on replacing the Interstate 5 bridge across the Columbia River, linking Washington and Oregon.

On Friday, area political leaders celebrated receipt of a $1.5 billion grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation. Combined with a separate $600 million award secured in December, it means the feds are shouldering roughly one-third of the project’s estimated price.

Three Washington Democratic lawmakers — U.S. Sens. Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell, and U.S. Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, whose district is on the Washington side of the bridge — announced the latest award on Friday.

“Replacing the I-5 Bridge is finally going to be a reality,” Murray said in a statement. She said the $1.5 billion is “the biggest federal transportation award in Washington state history.”

The money is coming from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bridge Investment Program, a component of the $1.2 trillion, five-year infrastructure law President Joe Biden signed in November 2021.

Funds will go to the Interstate Bridge Replacement Program, the entity overseeing the project – one of the most significant infrastructure projects in the region and along the West Coast.

Gluesenkamp Perez said she’s been fighting “tooth and nail” for every federal dollar possible. “It’s the only way we get this colossal undertaking done – as well as ensure we feel the benefits of our tax dollars and avoid tolling,” she added.

Project planners estimate the total cost of replacing the bridge will range from $5 billion to $7.5 billion, with a likely figure of around $6 billion.

Thus far, federal grants totaling $2.1 billion have been locked down. Planners are pursuing $1 billion from the Federal Transit Administration’s Capital Investment Program. A decision on that funding isn’t expected until the project is further along.

July 12 - ChatGPT maker OpenAI is working on a novel approach to its artificial intelligence models in a project code-named “Strawberry,” according to a person familiar with the matter and internal documentation reviewed by Reuters.

The project, details of which have not been previously reported, comes as the Microsoft-backed startup races to show that the types of models it offers are capable of delivering advanced reasoning capabilities.

Teams inside OpenAI are working on Strawberry, according to a copy of a recent internal OpenAI document seen by Reuters in May. Reuters could not ascertain the precise date of the document, which details a plan for how OpenAI intends to use Strawberry to perform research. The source described the plan to Reuters as a work in progress. The news agency could not establish how close Strawberry is to being publicly available.

How Strawberry works is a tightly kept secret even within OpenAI, the person said.

The document describes a project that uses Strawberry models with the aim of enabling the company’s AI to not just generate answers to queries but to plan ahead enough to navigate the internet autonomously and reliably to perform what OpenAI terms “deep research,” according to the source.

This is something that has eluded AI models to date, according to interviews with more than a dozen AI researchers.

Asked about Strawberry and the details reported in this story, an OpenAI company spokesperson said in a statement: “We want our AI models to see and understand the world more like we do. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban departed the NATO summit in Washington, D.C., on Thursday to meet with former President Trump in Florida, a source familiar with the meeting told Fox News Digital.

The New York Times first broke the story, citing a Trump campaign official and a person close to the former president. The report did not indicate what the pair would discuss at this impromptu meeting, but Orban has crisscrossed the globe over the past week after assuming the role as president of the European Union.

Orban arrived in the U.S. this week to attend the multi-day NATO summit, which celebrates the 75th anniversary of the organization's founding and occurs at a time when members remain concerned about Russia's ongoing invasion of Ukraine and what the future holds for the broader European Union.

Hungary’s presidency will last six months as part of a rotating leadership scheme for the bloc and does not provide much actual power, but Orban wasted no time in using that office to start holding discussions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping before his meeting with Trump.

NATO SUMMIT IN WASHINGTON, DC SHIELDS WORLD LEADERS FROM CRIME THREATS IN NATION'S CAPITAL

Orban has long admired Trump, going so far as to invoke the former president with a quip that Hungary would "make Europe great again," and Trump met with Orban at Mar-a-Lago in Florida in March when trying to court foreign policy in the U.S.

During an interview with German journalist and author Paul Ronzheimer, Orban said that there is a "very, very high chance that the next American president will be not the same president who is today," and he refused to be drawn on questions about President Biden’s fitness for office.

The rest of Europe has remained less than enamored with Orban, though, especially in light of his foreign visit blitz in the past 10 days. An EU diplomat confirmed to Fox News Digital that a majority of member states already have considerably lowered the level of participation in the informal council meetings that will be held in Hungary during the presidency term.

In some capitals, also, officials have discussed how to use EU treaties to limit Orban’s impact. The diplomat argued that "EU institutions should not have fallen into Orban’s trap in the first place, and Hungary should not have been allowed to assume the role of the presidency."

"The EU legislation shall be used to protect the Union and the unity, not the imaginary idea of imagined unity," the diplomat said.

Orban’s visit to Russia shocked many of his peers, leading European Union Foreign Policy chief Josep Borrell to rush out a statement stressing that Orban has no mandate from the union in discussions with foreign leaders and that he is "not representing the EU in any form" during the visits.

Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo described Orban’s visit to Putin as "disturbing" news, writing on the social media platform X that the visit shows "disregard for the duties of the EU presidency and undermines interests of the European Union."

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis wrote on X that "Mr. Orban might be abusing the position of the EU presidency, but what he is certainly not doing is representing either NATO or the EU."

"He does not speak for my country or any country except his own," Landsbergis stressed.

A spokesman for the Trump campaign did not respond to a Fox News Digital request for comment by the time of publication.
