Packs of “Fighting Age Males” in Military Uniforms Entering U.S. through Remote Arizona Town

As the nation’s largest southern border crossings finally receive mainstream media coverage years into an unprecedented illegal immigration crisis, untold numbers of “fighting age males” dressed in military uniforms are entering the United States through remote areas with no Border Patrol presence. It is a palpable security lapse unlikely to be reported by most news outlets and local, federal, and state law enforcement sources have provided Judicial Watch with detailed accounts, reports, diagrams, and photos of the situation which is terrorizing residents in a once harmonious Arizona town just a few miles from Mexico. They blame the Biden administration’s catastrophic open border policies for the serious problems that have gripped the area in the last few years.

The Santa Cruz and Pima County regions in southwestern Arizona have been slammed with extraordinary violence and crime fueled by Mexican cartels—smuggling drugs and humans—that are victimizing fourth and fifth-generation cattle farmers who have captured thousands of illegal immigrants on security cameras passing through their property since Joe Biden became president. Sometimes they find dead bodies and drug paraphernalia. “Violent activity has drastically increased over the past three years since the border is now perceived to be wide open,” a veteran law enforcement official told Judicial Watch this week, adding that in the communities of Amado and Arivaca American citizens feel much less safe than they did when Donald Trump was president. Both are cattle ranching towns with small populations that are diminishing because of the increased violence. Amado is nestled in the Santa Cruz River Valley about 29 miles from the Mexican border. Arivaca is situated southwest of Amado about 11 miles from Nogales, Mexico.

An unmanned Border Patrol checkpoint east of Arivaca worries residents deeply, but the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has no intention of deploying agents, according to multiple sources. In the meantime, law enforcement officials and residents confirm that young men are pouring in through the region in what appears to be an organized movement operated by Mexican cartels. “They are unemployed, the majority are fighting age males and there is a strong possibility some have undergone some level of insurgency training,” according to a law enforcement source familiar with the situation. The groups of men are usually dressed in “camouflage military uniforms, indicating a robust and well-funded supply network to ensure everyone is outfitted the same,” said an intelligence officer with extensive U.S. military training who provided Judicial Watch with pictures and graphs of recent crossings. The uniformed men also carry camouflaged backpacks and wear carpet booties to hide footprint tracks. Large piles of the disposed carpet booties litter ranches on the U.S. side, creating a hazard for cattle that consume the trash.

Archegos Founder Bill Hwang Convicted at Criminal Trial Over Fund's Collapse

Archegos Capital Management founder Sung Kook "Bill" Hwang was convicted by a jury in Manhattan federal court on Wednesday at a criminal trial in which prosecutors accused him of market manipulation ahead of the 2021 collapse of his $36 billion private investment firm. Jurors began deliberations on Tuesday morning, a day after hearing closing arguments in the trial of Hwang and Patrick Halligan, his Archegos deputy and co-defendant. Prosecutors said Hwang and Halligan lied to banks in order to obtain billions of dollars that they used to artificially pump up the stock prices of multiple publicly traded companies. The trial began in May.

The Archegos meltdown sent shock waves across Wall Street and drew regulatory scrutiny on three continents.

Hwang, 60, had pleaded not guilty to one count of racketeering conspiracy, three counts of fraud and seven counts of market manipulation. Halligan, 47, had pleaded not guilty to one count of racketeering conspiracy and two counts of fraud. Halligan was the chief financial officer at Archegos.

They now face maximum sentences of 20 years in prison on each charge for which they were convicted, though any sentence would likely be much lower and would be imposed by the judge based on a range of factors.

When the charges were brought in 2022, the U.S. Justice Department called the case an example of its commitment to hold accountable people who distort and defraud U.S. financial markets.

The trial centered on the implosion of Hwang's family office Archegos, which inflicted $10 billion in losses at global banks and, according to prosecutors, and caused more than $100 billion in shareholder losses at companies in its portfolio. Prosecutors said Hwang's actions harmed U.S. financial markets as well as ordinary investors, causing significant losses to banks, market participants and Archegos employees. Hwang secretly amassed outsized stakes in multiple companies without actually holding their stock, according to prosecutors. Hwang lied to banks about the size of the derivative positions of Archegos in order to borrow billions of dollars that he and his deputies then used to artificially inflate the underlying stocks, prosecutors said. Halligan was accused by prosecutors of lying to banks and enabling the criminal scheme.

During closing arguments, Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew Thomas told jurors, "By 2021, the defendants' lies and manipulation had ensnared nearly a dozen stocks and half of Wall Street in a $100 billion fraud, a fraud that came crashing down in a matter of days."

Hwang's defense team painted the indictment as the "most aggressive open market manipulation case" ever brought by U.S. prosecutors. Hwang's attorney Barry Berke told jurors in his closing argument that prosecutors criminalized aggressive but legal trading methods.

Archegos head trader William Tomita and Chief Risk Officer Scott Becker testified as prosecution witnesses after pleading guilty to related charges and agreeing to cooperate in the case.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York, which brought the case, Hwang's positions eclipsed those of the companies' largest investors, driving up stock prices. At its peak, prosecutors said Archegos had $36 billion in assets and $160 billion of exposure to equities.

When stock prices fell in March 2021, the banks demanded additional deposits, which Archegos could not make. The banks then sold the stocks backing Hwang's swaps, wiping out an alleged $100 billion in value for shareholders and billions at the banks, including $5.5 billion for Credit Suisse, now part of UBS, and $2.9 billion for Nomura Holdings.

The boon in ex-military hiring comes alongside the continued defense tech investment craze. JUNEAU, AK –The U.S. Coast Guard encountered multiple People’s Republic of China military ships in the Bering Sea, Saturday and Sunday.

The crew of U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Kimball (WMSL 756) detected three vessels approximately 124 miles north of the Amchitka Pass in the Aleutian Islands, and an HC-130J aircrew from U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak detected an additional vessel approximately 84 miles north of the Amukta Pass.

All four of the People’s Republic of China vessels were transiting in international waters but still inside the U.S. Exclusive Economic Zone, which extends 200 nautical miles from the U.S. shoreline.

“The Chinese naval presence operated in accordance with international rules and norms,” said Rear Adm. Megan Dean, Seventeenth Coast Guard District commander. “We met presence with presence to ensure there were no disruptions to U.S. interests in the maritime environment around Alaska.”

The Chinese vessels responded to U.S. Coast Guard radio communication and their stated purpose was “freedom of navigation operations.” Coast Guard cutter Kimball continued to monitor all ships until they transited south of the Aleutian Islands into the North Pacific Ocean. The Kimball continues to monitor activities in the U.S. Exclusive Economic Zone to ensure the safety of U.S. vessels and international commerce in the area.

The Coast Guard, in coordination with U.S. Northern Command, was fully aware of and tracked the Chinese naval presence.

Coast Guard Cutter Kimball is a 418-foot legend class national security cutter homeported in Honolulu, Hawaii.

House passes GOP-led SAVE Act that bans non-citizen voting in federal elections

The House of Representatives on Wednesday passed the Republican-led Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act in a 221-198 vote, which requires voters to prove their citizenship in the United States in order to vote in federal elections.

The SAVE Act was introduced by Texas Rep. Chip Roy, a Republican, earlier this year, but could be vetoed by President Joe Biden if it reaches his desk later this year.

The Biden administration said it opposes the bill because it is already illegal for non-citizens to vote in federal elections.

“The alleged justification for this bill is based on easily disproven falsehoods,” the administration said in a statement on Monday. “Additionally, making a false claim of citizenship or unlawfully voting in an election is punishable by removal from the United States and a permanent bar to admission.”

Meta will now remove posts containing the term “Zionist”when used in conjunction with antisemitic tropes or dehumanizing rhetoric, the company said Tuesday, in an expansion of its current hate speech policies.

The decision follows what the company described as a months-long inquiry into how the term has historically been used and how it is currently being used on social media, particularly as the war in Gaza continues.

“We have determined that the existing policy guidance does not sufficiently address the ways people are using the term ‘Zionist’ online and offline,” Meta said in a blog post. “Going forward, we will remove content attacking ‘Zionists’ when it is not explicitly about the political movement, but instead uses antisemitic stereotypes, or threatens other types of harm through intimidation, or violence directed against Jews or Israelis under the guise of attacking Zionists.”

The new approach recognizes that the term “Zionist” — which, narrowly construed, refers to the political movement promoting the creation of a Jewish state — is sometimes used as an epithet by opponents of Israel. The word at times is used as a proxy for the words “Jew” or “Israeli,” particularly in a negative connotation, Meta said, outlining the results of its platform research and its consultations with outside experts earlier this year.

The upcoming Atlantic City Airshow has been canceled due to a “major act withdrawing,” officials announced Wednesday.

The Greater Atlantic City Chamber, Visit Atlantic City and the South Jersey Transportation Authority made the announcement in a joint statement.

“We regret to announce the cancellation of the 2024 Visit Atlantic City Airshow due to a major act withdrawing from the Airshow. This decision was not made lightly, and we understand the disappointment it may cause,” a spokesperson wrote. “We extend our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to all who have supported this event over the past number of years.”

Officials did not reveal which act withdrew from the show.

The decision was made after the South Jersey Transportation Authority provided hundreds of thousands of dollars in funding to save the 2024 show earlier this year. Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small said it costs around $300,000 to put on the show.

The 2024 show – which was dubbed “A Salute to Those Who Serve” – was scheduled to take place on Aug. 13 and Aug. 14. Officials said the show leads to an estimated $50 million impact despite most of the event being free to beachgoers.

Fear among some Democrats has become so heightened that they are advising their party’s candidates to all but disavow Biden on the campaign trail in order to bolster their own candidacies. And messaging on abortion rights or the threat Trump could pose to democracy — issues expected to play to Biden’s advantage — may not be enough on their own, former Nassau County Executive Laura Curran said.

“If I’m a Democrat in some of these suburban races, I’d run the hell away from Joe Biden,”she said. And one high-level New York Democrat, granted anonymity to speak bluntly about the political crisis surrounding the president, said the party’s House candidates need to distance themselves from the top of the ticket.

“It’s never been more important for a Democratic House member to focus on building their own local brand and to run on that,” the person said. “Biden isn’t going to be handing out coattails no matter what. He’s only got anchors.”

One of Biden’s New York labor allies has had trouble convincing some of his rank-and-file members to vote for the president despite the union’s endorsement.“There are going to be members, we recognize, who will never be convinced that Joe Biden is the next president,” state Building and Construction Trades Council President Gary LaBarbera said. “This is a very unique set of circumstances with Donald Trump. Nevertheless, the Cook Political Report still lists New York as solidly Democratic, and The Hill puts his chances of winning the state at 98 percent.

Misgivings among Democrats over Biden’s waning support in New York go beyond the broader questions over his advanced age. Public polls show Democrats’ troubles in the state stem from independent voters, who are more likely to side with Republicans in their assessment of the president.

The closely watched Siena College poll in June found Biden with an 8-point advantage over Trump. The same poll found only 28 percent of voters not enrolled in a major party supported Biden’s reelection, and 71 percent of them disapproved of the job Biden is doing. Biden’s support has declined since the winter, when he led Trump by 12 points in a February survey, according to the poll. The public survey has matched the polling of labor groups, according to an official with one union who was granted anonymity to discuss the closely held data. The poll by the union in June found a nearly identical result for Biden.

“We were definitely alarmed at how bad he’s doing statewide,”the person said. Many of the troubles facing Biden in New York stem from a broader problem Democrats have in the state on issues GOP candidates have successfully seized in the last several years.

Driven by the flood of migrants into New York City, high taxes and lingering perceptions of a crime wave, Republicans feel emboldened and believe they will be able to keep all five House seats they are contesting this year — and come within striking distance of Trump winning the state’s 28 electoral votes.

The Biden campaign declined to comment on the concerns from Democrats in New York, referring POLITICO to the state Democratic Party. Spokesperson Jen Goodman said Biden would win because voters in the state don’t want Trump in the White House again.

“Time and again New Yorkers have rejected Donald Trump,” Goodman said. “He’s the most unpopular person in New York politics, and there is no doubt that voters will once again turn out for President Biden in November.”

Trump, 78, has his own liabilities, especially with suburban voters and women.

Democrats expect to run an aggressive campaign this fall that revolves around the threat Trump poses to reproductive rights — even in a state with some of the strongest abortion laws on the books. His favorability among New Yorkers stands at a paltry 37 percent, the Siena survey in June found (Biden is at 42 percent favorable).

There is also the personal baggage Trump brings to the race, including 34 felony convictions in a case brought by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg that stemmed from paying hush money to a porn star. A New York jury last year separately found Trump liable for sexual abuse and forced him to pay his accuser E. Jean Carroll $5 million.

But Democrats do not believe Trump’s problems alone will make New York a shoo-in for Biden. The president needs to start drawing a contrast with Trump on the principles of democracy, Basil Smikle, a former executive director for the New York Democratic Party, said.

“The [Biden] campaign needs to do a better job of framing the argument that the choice is between a convicted felon and a president who has done a good job,” Smikle said. “It’s alarming they have to do this in New York, a progressive state with a progressive history.”

Despite the stakes, elected officials and political leaders worry Democrats are sleepwalking in New York. And Biden, they argue, has to step in.“He needs to remind New Yorkers why they should be voting for him,” said Jasmine Gripper, the co-director of the left-leaning Working Families Party.

“We’re dealing with voters who are feeling frustrated with both parties, and we just know that leads to low turnout.”

But there is also a split screen effect among Democrats over the trouble Biden faces. The president’s most ardent supporters, his pledged convention delegates from New York, expect to support his re-nomination when the party convenes in Chicago.

“Democrats will come home, and it will be an absolute landslide,” Manhattan Democratic Chair Keith Wright said. “Trump is not in play here.” (these people are delusional)

Democratic Rep. Pat Ryan, a freshman lawmaker whose seat is being targeted by Republicans this November, on Wednesday became the eighth House Democrat to call for Biden to step aside.

“Joe Biden is a patriot but is no longer the best candidate to defeat Trump,” Ryan wrote in a post on X after this article published. “For the good of our country, I am asking Joe Biden to step aside — to deliver on his promise to be a bridge to a new generation of leaders.”

Republicans concede that Trump, a native New Yorker who built a business empire in the state and was a mainstay in the city’s tabloids long before becoming a national figure, faces a steep uphill climb to win the state. But just a close race in New York is an indication of how successful Trump’s campaign could be nationally with an otherwise deeply polarized electorate.

“Even if he doesn’t win New York and New Jersey,” Staten Island Republican Rep. Nicole Malliotakis said, “if he comes close, what does that tell you about the rest of the country?”

Biden support slips in deep blue New York: ‘We’re a battleground state now’

Democrats are worried the president is taking New York for granted as the state becomes surprisingly competitive.

NEW YORK — President Joe Biden has a new problem: a competitive race in deep blue New York. Elected officials, union leaders and political consultants are panicking over polls showing a steady erosion of Biden’s support in a state he won by 23 points four years ago. They’re so worried they’ve been trying to convince the Biden team to pour resources into New York to shore up his campaign and boost Democrats running in a half-dozen swing districts that could determine control of the House.

Biden aides have not focused on New York, committing no significant resources to a state where they expectthe president to easily win all 28 electoral college votes in November.

But the warning signs are impossible to ignore and have been building over the past year. Two private polls conducted in a swing New York House district and reviewed by POLITICO — one in September and another in March — found former President Donald Trump leading Biden there by 1 point, a virtual tie. And public polls over the last four months found Biden’s lead had winnowed to just 8 points across New York — an unusually narrow gap in a state where Democrats outnumber Republicans 2 to 1.

“We’re still acting like this is a one-party state, which for pretty much 20, 25 years it has been,” Democratic Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine said. “I truly believe we’re a battleground state now.”

Biden, whose campaign is in free fall after a shambling debate performance last month, is yet to pay much attention to the state beyond high-dollar fundraisers. He was most recently in New York on June 29 to raise money in the Hamptons and attend a dedication ceremony for the Stonewall Inn Visitor Center in Manhattan a day earlier. He has been appearing in traditional battleground states, including Wisconsin and Pennsylvania over the weekend, as the 81-year-old tries to silence doubts over his age and mental acuity.

Now Democrats want Biden to get serious about the Empire State as they warn of the existential crisis to democracy posed by Trump’s potential return to the White House, according to interviews with 10 Democratic Party officials, consultants and political leaders. A contested race in New York exacerbates Biden’s reelection troubles as members of his party continue to call for him to step aside or question his fitness for office — including three members of the state’s House delegation. And it would cost him time and money he’d rather be spending on the country’s six swing states, siphoning millions of dollars to play in the costliest media market in the country.

“The money that needs to be spent here will be subtracted from other areas he’s going to lose,”former Democratic New York Gov. David Paterson said. Top statewide Democrats — including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries — have signaled shared public support for Biden. Schumer, though, has been sparing in his public comments about Biden since the president’s debate performance nearly two weeks ago.

“As I’ve said before, I’m with Joe,” Schumer said Tuesday at his weekly press conference, repeating a version of a line he’d used previously.

Schumer and Jeffries are under intense pressure this week as lawmakers return to the Capitol and Democrats try to find unity. Schumer declined Tuesday to say whether he agreed with Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.), another member of Democratic leadership, that Biden “must do more” to reassure Democrats and needs to be “a much more forceful and energetic candidate on the campaign trail in the very near future.”

Democrats have been on a winning streak in New York since 2006 and control all levers of power in Albany. A GOP presidential candidate hasn’t won New York since Ronald Reagan’s rout of Walter Mondale in 1984. But GOP candidates flipped enough suburban House seats to help their party maintain control of the chamber two years ago, as a Republican challenger to Gov. Kathy Hochul lost by a relatively modest 6 points.

State party leaders have publicly backed Biden and expect he will remain in the race — none more than Hochul. Still, support for Biden among New York Democrats behind closed doors is flagging. Reps. Jerry Nadler and Joe Morelle in a conference call with fellow House Democrats backed a change at the top of the ticket. Nadler publicly has said he’s supporting Biden; Morelle did not return a call seeking comment.
