Fourth body discovered in well where US, Australian surfers were reportedly found dead in Mexico(NYPost.com)

A fourth body has been discovered in a 50-foot deep well in Baja California, Mexico where an American and two Australian surfers were found dead, authorities revealed.

Meanwhile, one of the three suspects taken into custody by Mexican authorities reportedly had one of the tourists’ phones on her when she was arrested — and all three allegedly had drugs on them.

Mexican officials have not officially confirmed that the three bodies found in a well hole last week are Georgia resident Jack Carter Rhoad, 30, and Australian brothers Callum, 33, and Jake Robinson, 30.

But two news outlets, Border Report and FOX 5 San Diego, citing a source in the Baja California Attorney General’s office, say the dead bodies are those of the three missing surfers.

Australian brothers Callum and Jake Robinson are believed to be two of the three dead bodies discovered in Mexico on Friday. 6

They were believed to have been camping out at a popular surf spot known as La Bocana in the beautiful Mexican countryside — about 130 miles south of San Diego, when they were reported missing last Saturday.

Police later arrested Jesús Gerardo Garcia Cota, alias El Kekas, his partner Ari Gisel García Cota, and Jesus’ brother Cristian Alejandro Garcia.

All had methamphetamine and other illegal narcotics on them at the time of their arrest, according to local news blogs Talk Baja and Zeta Tijuana.

Ari Gisel Garcia Cota, 23, was allegedly nabbed with one of the surfer’s phones as well as the drugs.

The fourth body was identified as a ranch owner who was reported missing two weeks ago, officials said.

He owned the property where the bodies were found, the attorney general said.

‘View’ co-hosts fear that campus anti-Israel protests will distract public from January 6, help Trump

By Gabriel Hays, Fox News

Tension flared on ABC’s “The View” on Friday as the co-hosts discussed the anti-Israel protests on college campuses nationwide.

The co-hosts clashed with each other on multiple points concerning the demonstrations, the first being that the imagery of the chaos on campus would help former President Trump’s re-election chances, and the second being who the victims are in these protests.

Co-host Sunny Hostin sparked the debate on both topics, showing visible anger at co-host Sarah Haines for bringing up the fact that people may be distracted from the January 6 Capitol riot because of these new chaotic images; and elsewhere causing a stir by saying the student protesters are being victimized by police.

The arguments over the protests began after a discussion of an upcoming Trump donor event where the former president was looking to vet his potential vice presidential nominee.

Despite most of the ladies on the panel mocking Trump’s legal woes and his potential running mate picks, Haines burst the bubble, noting that many are being driven to attend the fundraiser because of the chaos they’re seeing on the news stemming from the campus protests.

“One of the people with this event said donors are flocking to this event due to the horror of nightly images they see on TV,” Haines said, which appeared to frustrate Hostin.

The co-host interrupted Haines, asking, “Do they not remember the visuals on January 6th? Do they not remember those visuals of chaos?”

“I think – I think, in the human – literally, humans look at the recent visions. So, nightly image right now matters more to them than January 6th,” Haines argued.

Sarah Haines

Tension flared on ABC’s “The View” on Friday as the co-hosts discussed the anti-Israel protests on college campuses nationwide. ABC

Hostin forcefully shot back, “January 6th is ingrained in my memory and it should be ingrained in every single person’s memory in the United States of America.”

Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin acknowledged Hostin’s point, but bolstered Haines’ argument, adding, “It should be, but while there are completely different – a lot of the imagery looks similar and it was, you know, you’re going to see Republicans seeing windows being smashed, things being defaced on college campuses and it evokes that same sense of lawlessness.”

After discussing some of the violence and destruction that has gone on during the campus demonstrations, Hostin said the anti-Israel agitators have faced violence and fear.

“There are also anti-protesters that have come in and caused violence to these encampments. Let’s not forget that part of the story,” Hostin said.

Sunny Hostin

The co-hosts clashed with each other on multiple points concerning the demonstrations, the first being that the imagery of the chaos on campus would help former President Trump’s re-election chances. ABC

Co-host Joy Behar cut in, stating, “You know what? There are a lot of parts to this story.”

Hostin continued, “Can I just also say this? Let’s also remember that these kids that are protesting grew up with active fire drills, and for them to be subjected to the type of police violence that we are seeing on the nightly news is something also…”

She was then cut off.

Sympathizing with the university students that can’t get to class because of the protests, Haines pushed back on Hostin’s point.

“There are also students that can’t get across campus. The antithesis of freedom of speech is threatening someone, they have to say what you believe to cross the campus,” she said.

“That’s also problematic,” Haines declared.

AIJ (T.me) 🚨Update: Ex-Federal Attorney Gets 20 Years For Conspiring to Sexually Exploit Numerous Children

A former FDIC attorney, and former board president of the Arlington Aquatic Club, was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for conspiring to sexually exploit numerous children.

Mark Black, 50, of Arlington, Virginia, pled guilty to one count each of conspiracy to produce child pornography and coercion and enticement.

Per the DOJ: Between 2018 and 2021, Black had been a member of 2 online groups dedicated to locating prepubescent girls online and convincing the girls to livestream themselves engaging in sexually explicit conduct.

When Black's electronic devices were seized, authorities located over 172,000 images of suspected child sexual abuse, more than 1,300 of which depicted the girls identified as his victims.

I-95 in Norwalk reopens just in time for Monday commute after massive blaze torched overpass(NYPost.com)

Steve Janoski

Both sides of Interstate 95 in Norwalk, Connecticut, reopened Sunday, just three days after a tanker truck slammed into two other vehicles and burst into flames, torching the highway and melting an overpass.

Now, the overpass has already been demolished and the highway repaved

Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont announced the reopening in a Sunday morning post on X — in which he also commended local and state police, local fire departments and other state agencies for moving so quickly to close and fix the road following the catastrophic blaze.

“Everyone did their part,” Lamont wrote. “I am impressed and thankful for their dedication … It is truly remarkable to complete this work in less than 80 hours.”

The Thursday morning fire erupted at about 5:30 a.m. when a tanker truck carrying 8,500 gallons of gasoline crashed into a tractor-trailer and another car near the Fairfield Avenue overpass near Exit 15 in Norwalk.

The State Police have said a Chevy Camaro was getting on the highway’s southbound lane when it hit the tanker, which was driving in the right lane, according to NBC New York.

That pushed the fuel truck into the center lane, where it clipped a tractor-trailer, the outlet said.

Miraculously, no one was hurt. But the intense heat melted the overpass and compromised the causeway’s integrity, Lamont said that day.

Connecticut Department of Transportation Commissioner Garrett Eucalitto added, “The damage was pretty severe due to the amount of gasoline that was in the tanker ignited directly underneath the bridge structure. The steel did begin to overheat and warp.”

Video and photos of the crash showed a spectacular fireball.

This led officials to completely close that section of I-95, a major East Coast artery that links New York and New England.

Environmental crews worked to clean up gasoline and firefighting foam, as the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection said the runoff was corralled in a retention pond and did not seep into the Norwalk River.

About 4,000 gallons of unburnt gas was offloaded from the tanker.

Meanwhile, crews removed concrete, steel and other debris from the road, NBC New York said.

Then they swept the road clean before milling, paving and re-striping it.

Chicago Teachers Union’s $50B demands include pay hikes, abortions, and migrant accommodations — at $2K per migrant(NYPost.com)

By Fox News

The Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) is negotiating a new contract with the public schools system and is understood to be calling for an extra $50 billion to pay for wage hikes as well as other demands such as fully paid abortions for its members, new migrant services and facilities and a host of LGBT-related requirements and training in schools.

To put the figure into context, the total base tax receipts for the state of Illinois last year were $50.7 billion.

The incredible demands are being made despite its members delivering underwhelming results for its students, with only 21 percent of the city’s eighth graders being proficient readers, according to the last Nation’s Report Card, which provides national results about students’ performance.

The union’s demands have not been made public but a leaked document sheds light on the eye-popping demands.

Union President Stacy Davis Gates’ audacious plan calls for members to bank at least 9% wage increases each year through fiscal year 2028.

The average salary of a teacher in Chicago Public Schools is $93,182, according to research by the Illinois Policy Institute, a conservative nonprofit think tank. Therefore, the average teacher’s pay will increase by half to $144,620 in the 2027-2028 school year, it says.

That figure would equate to more than double the median household income in Chicago, according to Census Bureau statistics.

The Chicago Tribune reports that the CPS budget will exceed $9 billion this year, up nearly 30% from $7.4 billion just five years ago. Much of that increase is reflected in teacher salaries, which are among the highest of any big-city teachers in the country, the

Last school year, the district spent more than $21,000 per student, far above the national average of $14,347, according to census data.

Gates’ plan also calls for teachers and counselors to be paid a stipend of $1,000 per student per semester when they are assigned a number of students above contractual limits and a retirement bonus of $2,500 for employees with more than 30 years of service.

“We are asking you to give us an opportunity to tell our story,” Gates said in a speech in March referring to the union’s plans. “It will cost $50 billion and three cents… yes it will, and so what, that’s audacity.”

While the figure might seem far-fetched, the union holds tremendous sway in city politics with deep ties to Mayor Brandon Johnson.

Johnson, a former CTU legislative coordinator who was put forward by the union to run for mayor. As of June 30, 2023, CTU had funneled more than $2.6 million into Johnson’s campaign while he received more than $6 million from teachers unions altogether, according to the Illinois Policy Institute.

Meanwhile, Davis herself has come under fire for sending her son to a private school after calling school choice racist.

Start your day with all you need to know

Morning Report delivers the latest news, videos, photos and more.

The leaked demands also address “disparities” in health care with 100% coverage benefits for abortion care, 100% coverage benefits for fertility, including full coverage for storage of embryos and any other frozen storage needs.

But the union also wants more taxpayers’ funds to go to migrants in its far-reaching plan – earmarking $2,000 to be given to each migrant to help with academics, transportation and mental health counseling.

The union also wants each of the 646 public schools to have a “newcomer liaison” for new students as well as migrant students and unused school facilities to be converted into housing accommodation for migrants.

The union also wants every school in the district has at least one gender-neutral bathroom. AP

There is also a whole host of other social justice provisions the union wants, including making sure workers and educators are trained annually on LGBTQ+ issues as a qualification in their job description.

The union also wants to mandate that every school in the district has at least one gender-neutral bathroom.

Additionally, it wants the board to adopt policies that would prohibit any member from being compelled to tell parents when a student rejects his or her sex.

Mailee Smith, senior director of labor policy at the Illinois Policy Institute, has blasted Davis’ demands and said that Mayor Johnson should recuse himself from contract negotiations.

“These demands read more like a political agenda than a serious contract intent on supporting teachers’ wages and benefits, and promoting the education of Chicago students,” Smith said in a statement last month.

“These demands are far outside the scope of traditional bargaining, putting taxpayer dollars on the line in pursuit of more union power and social activism.”

“We are in the process of calculating the cost of these demands, but we can already tell that funding them will require a sweeping overhaul of finances and new revenues – meaning more and higher taxes for residents. Chicagoans deserve to be represented by a neutral party who is looking out for their finances.”

Bernard Hill, actor in Lord of the Rings and Titanic, dies at 79(NYPost.com)

Hannah Sparks

Bernard Hill, an actor best known for roles in “Titanic” and the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, has died at the age of 79.

Hill infamously played Captain Edward Smith, who went down with his sinking ship in James Cameron’s history-making hit “Titanic,” and later took on JRR Tolkien’s literary classic when he starred as Theoden, King of Rohan in the book’s cinematic adaptation.

Bernard Hill 4

Bernard Hill played Theoden, King of Rohan in the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy’s second and final films.

Hill’s agent Lou Coulson confirmed the news to the BBC on Sunday. The actor reportedly passed away in the early hours of May 5. His family is expected to release a statement imminently.

Hill was due to appear at Comic-Con in Liverpool, UK this week. Event producers put out a statement regarding his passing: “We’re heartbroken to hear the news of Bernard Hill’s passing. A great loss. Thinking of his family at this very sad time, and wishing them a lot of strength.”

Born December 17, 1944, the Manchester, UK-born actor was raised in a family of miners, yet found his way to drama school and the stage.

His breakout role came in 1979 as a desperate blue-collar worker in the BBC film “The Black Stuff” and again three years later in “Boys from the Black Stuff.” His character, Yosser Hughes, coined the catchphrase “gizza job” which became an ode to the disenfranchised working-class community under Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher’s Great Britain.

Alan Bleasdale, who wrote the Bafta-award winning “Black Stuff” sequel, told the BBC his family was “heartbroken” to hear of Hill’s passing. “He was a big soft kid in many ways — very easy and very gentle with children,” said the screenwriter, whose children acted alongside Hill in the 80s drama.

“He was like their second dad — they loved him, they adored him,” Bleasdale added. “He lived around the corner and, when he wasn’t working, he was always at ours.”

Hill’s notoriety had stretched across the pond by the 1980s and 90s with roles in the biopic “Gandhi,” starring Sir Ben Kingsley, and action-thriller “The Ghost and the Darkness,” opposite Val Kilmer and Michael Douglas.

And few actors can claim to have worked on such lauded films as “Titanic” and “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” each earned 13 and 11 Academy Awards respectively.

Reflecting on his work in the second and third of the fantasy trilogy, Hill said, “I loved every minute of every day that I was on Lord of the Rings.

More than 380,000 additional NYC students had personal info hacked, bringing total to over 1M(NYPosat.com)

More than 380,000 additional city public-school students had their personal data hacked in a massive cyber attack — bringing the total number of kids affected to well over 1 million, The Post has learned.

The New York City Department of Education last week began sending letters notifying the hundreds of thousands of additional current and former students that they were victims of the cyber attack involving one of the DOE’s former software vendors, according to a letter sent to one graduate and reviewed by The Post.

The DOE initially reported that about 800,000 current and former students were affected but was notified by the vendor in October that scores of additional kids also were victims, the department said.

The hacked personal information includes a student’s name, date of birth, ethnicity, academic records and school enrollment, the DOE letter said.

No social security or financial information was breached, education officials said.

The DOE said it is offering the impacted students — some of whom even graduated from the system several years before the security breach occurred — two years of free credit and identity-monitoring services through vendor IDX to help protect against identity theft.

The security breach occurred in late December 2021 to early January 2022 with the DOE’s-then software company Illuminate, which offers grading, attending and messaging platforms.

The city public-school system has since severed ties with Illuminate.

The recent letter to affected former and current students provides a link to an updated security notice on the DOE website that says, “Approximately 387,000 current and former NYCPS students were newly identified as being affected by Illuminate’s data security incident in 2022.” A DOE rep said that figure is more like 381,000.

Another 94,000 current and former public-school students also are receiving a second notice because Illuminate identified “additional information of theirs that was affected by the 2022 data security incident,” the DOE said.

“New York Public Schools is writing you with an update on a data security incident that occurred two years ago involving the company Illuminate Education,” said the letter sent from DOE Chief Information Officer Intekhab Shakil and Chief Privacy Officer Dennis Doye to the affected students last week. “NYCPS is handling this situation with the utmost seriousness.”

In May 2022, city education officials notified the previously identified 800,000 students impacted by the breach.

In the recent letter, the DOE cybersecurity officials said Illuminate notified the city school system in October of last year that it became aware that “additional individuals were affected by the 2022 data security incident.

“You are one of the individuals who Illuminate recently identified as being affected by the 2022 data security incident,” Shakil and Doyle said in the letter to one of the affected students.

The DOE officials insisted they have beefed up cybersecurity protocols and emphasized that they are holding contractors accountable to protect students’ privacy.

“NYCPS is committed to protecting the privacy of our students’ personal information. We have a comprehensive security compliance process in place to help make sure that companies who access student information agree to comply with federal, state, and local laws and help protect your data,” the officials said in the letter.

“Following the 2022 Illuminate incident, NYCPS also took steps to further ensure that schools do not use software products that involve vendors receiving or accessing student information unless and until the vendors fully complete our compliance process.”

As for the two years of free credit and identity-monitoring services being offered to those affected, “There is no cost to you, but you must enroll and activate the services yoursel,” the DOE said.

The deadline to enroll is July 30, 2024.

The cybersecurity breach was not the only one that has impacted city public-school students and employees.

Last summer, 45,000 students, school workers and service providers were affected by a separate hack attack that included Social Security numbers, dates of birth, employee IDs and OSIS numbers – the nine-digit numbers issued to all students who attend a city public school.

Overall, 19,000 documents were accessed from the file transfer system MOVEIt, and 9,000 Social Security numbers were stolen, the DOE said in a letter sent to staff at the time.

Schools are not the only juicy targets of hackers.

Mayor Adams defiantly tells NYC colleges to hold graduation ceremonies, don’t cave to provocateurs(NYPost.com)

Carl Campanile

Mayor Eric Adams defiantly told New York City colleges Sunday that they should move forward with their graduation ceremonies and not cave to anti-Israel provocateurs looking to disrupt the proceedings.

“It’s a wonderful experience to graduate from an institution, and I don’t think we should allow anything to get in the way of our normal way of life,” Adams said on ABC’s “This Week.”

“We’ll do our job, and if the institutions decide to graduate their students and celebrate a beautiful experience with their families, we will make sure it’s done in a peaceful manner,” he said.

The mayor defended the police crackdown on campus protests at Columbia University and CUNY’s City College in Manhattan, two of a slew of anti-Israel disturbances across the country.

Adams said the Manhattan school protests escalated into criminal activity and violence when protesters — including many “agitators” who were not students — occupied a building and vandalized property.

“When those protests reach the point of violence, we have to ensure that we use a minimum amount of force to terminate what is perceived to be a threat,” Adams told co-anchor Jonathan Karl.

Hizzoner said the police raid and arrests occurred after days of communication between the NYPD and Columbia’s administrators.

He said the information gathered by the Police Department’s intelligence division about outsider “agitators” fomenting unrest at Columbia and other campuses was “concerning.

“We knew we had to get permission unless there’s imminent threat to life or severe threat to property,” he said of the riot cops who moved in. “We were not going to overstep our legal authority.”

Karl asked Adams about criticism from Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-Westchester/Bronx), who said the campus raids and arrests of students by the the NYPD and other cops across country goes against “the role of education as the cornerstone of our democracy.”

“One has the right to have his or her opinion, and I respect that,” the mayor said. “And I have an obligation and responsibility to ensure the city is safe.”

He went on to say that outside agitators are making “a real attempt to radicalize our young people.

“We can’t take this lightly,” he said.

The mayor showed a flier from one of the protests that read, “Death to America.”

“This has left the point of advocating for a particular item,” he said.

“When you’re on college grounds and you do not attend that college, you’re an outsider. And then when you train people to do destructive things, you are an agitator. So, I’m not trying to be politically correct. I’m trying to be correct for the City of New York as we make sure the city continues to be safe.”

Teen charged as adult after he ambushes male teacher in hall, slaps female teacher in class: officials(NYPost.com)

Jorge Fitz-Gibbon

A North Carolina high schooler was hit with felony charges for allegedly attacking two separate school teachers on school grounds — and is being charged as an adult, prosecutors said.

Aquavis Hickman, 17, a student at Parkland High School in Winston-Salem, was indicted on assault and kidnapping charges last week and charged as a grownup in the two horrific attacks, including an April 15 assault where he slapped a female teacher twice, Fox affiliate WGHP-TV News reported.

“Our message to our community is simple,” Forsyth County District Attorney Jim O’Neill told the outlet. “We stand with teachers. We will fight to protect those teachers. And if you lay a hand on a teacher and assault a teacher, you can expect that the punishment will be swift and severe.

“Promise made,” O’Neill said as he announced the indictment Thursday. “Promise kept.”

In the first incident, Hickman was charged with second-degree kidnapping and misdemeanor riot in a Feb. 1 attack on a male teacher at the school — although prosecutors said he did not act alone.

Larry Edwards, a retired educator who was working as a substitute teacher, told WGHP he “was appalled” after having his head pushed in the hallway, allegedly by Hickman and other students.

“I walked up to the desk to get my phone to call the office and he mockingly walked behind me, and I happened to turn around and see him and the students started laughing,” Edwards said in a report last week. “The next thing I know he had taken his hand and smushed my head and everybody started laughing and he ran out.”

Last month, prosecutors said the rowdy teen walked up to the female teacher and smacked her twice, with the attack caught on video that later went viral — although it was not released by cops.

“That video went viral nationwide and it put us on the map in a negative manner,” Winston-Salem Police Chief William Penn told the outlet. “I am so glad today that the rest of the nation will also hear that we do not tolerate that in Winston-Salem and Forsyth County.”

The case against the teen was transferred from juvenile court to Superior Court last week, where a grand jury voted to indict him.

School district officials declined to comment on the case or Hickman’s arrest.

Radical anti-Israel nonprofit urged rampaging Columbia occupiers to recreate BLM ‘summer of 2020’ riots(NYPost.com)

Chris Nesi

The anti-Israel protesters who stormed Columbia University’s Hamilton Hall were urged by a radical activist group to rekindle the bloody Black Lives Matter riots of the summer of 2020, a new report says.

Furiously pumping the bellows is New York City nonprofit The People’s Forum (TPF), an anti-Israel organization with known ties to the Chinese Communist Party and backed by American businessman Neville Roy Singham, a self-described socialist known for financially supporting left-wing causes through Goldman Sachs’ charity arm.

At a Monday night meeting in Manhattan hosted by TPF — hours before the infamous building takeover — around 100 mask-wearing activists were worked into a lather by the organization’s executive director, Manolo De Los Santos, who called for a “final blow to destroy Israel” in a viral video earlier this year.

Addressing the group, De Los Santos spewed invective about Columbia’s “Zionist” administration, whom he skewered for wanting “to be more like their masters in Israel,” the Washington Free Beacon wrote.

He urged the crowd, many of them shrouded in keffiyehs, to “give Joe Biden a hot summer” and to “make it untenable for the politics of usual to take place in this country.”

He also referenced bringing back “the summer of 2020,” invoking the widespread violence that besieged major US cities from coast to coast in the weeks and months after the police-involved killing of George Floyd on May 25 of that year.

The riots — infamously couched by CNN as “fiery but mostly peaceful” — caused more than $400 million in damage nationwide, including to more than 450 Big Apple businesses that were looted or damaged.

A few hours after Monday’s meeting convened, dozens of the criminal protesters illegally raided the Manhattan campus building, gaining access through a glass-paneled door one activist smashed with a hammer.

The mob vandalized the historic structure — breaking doors and windows — and blockaded entrances, a university spokesman said at the time. They also hung at least one sign from a Hamilton Hall window emblazoned with the word “intifada,” photos and videos showed.

Cops descended on the Morningside Heights campus late Tuesday after being called in by Columbia President Minouche Shafik, with officers clad in riot gear using a ramp-like setup to gain access to the building through a window facing Amsterdam Avenue.

In all, 44 people were arrested, including two university staff members and 13 “outsiders” who were not affiliated with the school, Columbia said in a press release Thursday.

The presence of these outside agitators was echoed by the NYPD as well as Mayor Eric Adams.

“As the anti-Israel protests began to escalate, it became abundantly clear that individuals unaffiliated with these schools had entered these different campuses and, in some cases, were even training students in unlawful protest tactics, many which we witnessed escalating into violent conduct,” Adams said in a statement after the mass arrests.

One such outside group that has played a hand in numerous anti-Israel protests around the city since Hamas’ Oct. 7 terror attack on Israel is The People’s Forum, an organization primarily funded by Singham.

Billing itself as “a movement incubator for working class and marginalized communities,” TPF is bankrolled by Singham and his wife Jodie Evans — founder of activist group Code Pink — who donated more than $20 million to the organization between 2017 and 2022, according to The Free Press.

Much of it was funneled through the Goldman Sachs Philanthropy Fund, according to fund’s Form 990, which revealed TPF received $12 million in 2019, $4.4 million in 2018 and $2.5 million in 2017.

A spokesman for the investment banking giant has disavowed any connection to the activist group, emphatically clarifying that contributions made through its charitable wing come from clients’ funds, not the bank itself.

“Goldman Sachs has no relationship with The People’s Forum and does not share its values,” the spokesman told The Post.

Fire in the street during a George Floyd protest in 2020 5

In January, South Bronx Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY) urged Goldman Sachs to “cut ties” with TPF after a viral video surfaced showing De Los Santos at what appeared to be an event in New York City spewing “Nazi rhetoric” and calling for “that final blow to destroy Israel.”

As a tax-exempt non-profit, TPF could lose its charity status under IRS regulations governing 501(c)(3) organizations if it is found to have engaged in “planned activities that violate laws” or “induce the commission of a crime.”

The People’s Forum did not respond to a request for comment by The Post on Sunday.

Kristi Noem doubles down on claim she visited North Korea — cites trip to South Korea as proof(NYPost.com)

Ryan King

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem continued to claim Sunday that she visited North Korea — and cited a trip to South Korean’s demilitarized zone (DMZ) as proof.

Noem, 52, has been in hot water for a passage in her forthcoming book in which she recounted staring down North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un — a tale she has since said she’ll correct.

Margaret Brennan, the moderator of CBS “Face the Nation,” challenged her Sunday on a claim she also visited the famously isolated Hermit Kingdom, saying “You never went there.”

Kristi Noem 5

Kristi Noem attempted to talk about her foreign policy bona fides. AP

Noem responded: “Yes, I have. I’ve been there.”

She added: “I went to the DMZ. And there are details in this book that talk about going to the DMZ and specifics that I’m willing to share.”

The DMZ is a roughly 160-mile-long buffer zone that separates North and South Korea, fortified heavily with military hardware and troops on both sides.

Tourists can gaze into North Korea from the DMZ in South Korea.

But very few American politicians have actually visited the pariah state of North Korea, which is notorious for human rights abuses.

Back in 2019, former President Donald Trump took 20 steps over from the DMZ and became the first sitting commander-in-chief to enter North Korea.

Last year, a bipartisan delegation from Congress, led by Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-Texas) visited the Korean DMZ — but did not cross into North Korea.

The late former New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson (D) is also known to have made several visits to the US adversary in the past as an informal negotiator for the US.

There is certainly proof that Noem was at the South Korean side of the DMZ when she was serving in the US House.

One of Noem’s former colleagues, former Rep. Aaron Schock (R-Ill.) posted an image on social media of a 2014 visit.

Not long after, he posted a selfie with Noem at the Great Wall of China.

Noem served on the House Armed Services Committee from 2013 to 2015.

Kim Jong Un 5

Last week it emerged from early copies of her forthcoming book, “No Going Back: The Truth on What’s Wrong with Politics and How We Move America Forward,” that she dubiously claimed to have met with “North Korean President Kim Jong Un.”

“I remember when I met with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un,” she wrote. “I’m sure he underestimated me, having no clue about my experience staring down little tyrants (I’d been a children’s pastor, after all).”

A spokesperson for Noem later explained that there had been “two small errors” in her upcoming book that were then communicated to the “ghostwriter and editor.”

Kristi Noem 5

But on Sunday, Noem was evasive about the mistake when Brennan asserted, “You did not meet with Kim Jong Un.”

“No, I’ve met with many, many world leaders, many world leaders,” she replied.

“I’m not going to talk about my specific meetings with world leaders. I’m just not going to do that,” Noem went on.

Kristi Noem book 5

Kristi Noem described her upcoming book as a message to Americans about making tough choices. Amazon

“This anecdote shouldn’t have been in the book and as soon as it was brought to my attention, I made sure that — that was adjusted.”

At one point, Brennan pressed the South Dakota governor about how she didn’t catch the error in her book while recording audio for it.

“I took action to make sure that it was [corrected],” Noem stressed.

Her upcoming memoir is set to hit bookshelves on Tuesday.

Noem had been widely speculated as a contender to be Trump’s vice president pick, but recently, several confidants close to the former president have poured cold water on that.

How surfing ‘trip of a lifetime’ to Mexico turned deadly for Aussie lacrosse star, his brother and a pal(NYPost.com)

Nicholas McEntyre

It was meant to be the “trip of a lifetime” — partying at Coachella and then surfing and camping along the gorgeous Pacific coast of Baja California, Mexico.

Callum Robinson, 33, an Australia former college lacrosse star with chiseled abs and a flowing mane of hair worthy of Chris Hemsworth, was met by his little brother Jake, 30, who flew in from the Land Down Under.

His pal Jack Carter Rhoad, 30, an apparel designer in San Diego, also tagged along.

But their tourists’ made-for-social media journey appears to have ended in tragedy. Mexican authorities believe their bodies are the ones pulled the bottom of a 50-foot well in a remote part of the Mexican state.

Police believe the three were carjacked — and then summarily executed.

Three suspects are in custody — a local man, his girlfriend and his brother.

All three allegedly had meth on them, and the woman was carrying a cellphone belonging to one of the victims, according to local media reports.

The Robinsons and Rhoad were reported missing last Saturday after they failed to arrive at their Airbnb in Rosarito — a beach city about 15 miles from the US border.

They were believed to have been camping at popular surf spot La Bocana in the Mexican countryside, some 130 miles south of San Diego.

The state prosecutor told Australia’s 7News that there’s evidence that the three men resisted their attackers, and that’s what led to their murders.

“When they tried to get the vehicle, the victims opposed the robbery, the robbers were armed with a firearm and apparently shot the victims,” Baja California’s chief prosecutor María Elena Andrade Ramírez told the outlet.

Investigators had originally suspected foul play upon finding abandoned tents in the area, the Attorney General of Baja California said Thursday.

They also found a burnt white pick-up truck — similar to the white Chevrolet Colorado pickup the men were driving, according to a missing persons poster.

Mexican officials have not officially confirmed that three of the bodies are Rhoad and the Robinson brothers, but said there was a “high degree of probability” they were executed.

Multiple sources confirmed their identities to Reuters this week, however.

Callum Robinson moved to the US to pursue a lacrosse career in 2013, where he played for Stevenson University and later won the NCAA’s Division III lacrosse championship.

Robinson’s alma mater paid tribute to their standout star, who started in 65 of the 66 games he appeared in from 2013 to 2015.

“It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our dear teammate and friend, Callum Robinson,” the team announced on Facebook. “From his days leading us to victory on the field to his unwavering commitment to academic excellence, Callum was a true inspiration to us all.”

The Maryland-based school remembered Callum Robinson for “his infectious spirit and larger-than-life personality.”

“With his beautiful long hair and charming smile, he truly embodied the nickname ‘big koala’—warm, friendly, and always there to lend a helping hand,” the school said.

“Though he may be gone, Callum’s legacy will live on in our hearts forever. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time. Rest easy, Callum. You will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.”

Following his collegiate career, Callum was drafted by the Chesapeake Bayhawks as the 27th overall pick in the 2015 draft for the now-defunct Major League Lacrosse.

He went on to play for Australia’s Men’s National Team and joined the Professional Lacrosse League where he started 11 games for Atlas LC and even traveled with the team for the 2019 championship series in Utah,

Jake Robinson, who was set to start a new position at a hospital in Geelong, Victoria, Australia, was remembered by his parents as a “gentle soul.”

Three Mexican nationals — Jesús Gerardo Garcia Cota, alias El Kekas, his partner Ari Gisel García Cota, and Jesus’ brother Cristian Alejandro Garcia — were arrested in connection to the disappearance, but haven’t been charged with murder.

Callum Robinson posted a series of photos of the surfing trip in the hours before they mysteriously vanished.

“It should be noted that the rapid intervention of the [police] allowed three people to be under investigation, and currently an arrest warrant was obtained before the criminal courts of the State Superior Court of Justice for the crime of forced disappearance of people,” the Baja California state Attorney General said in a statement.

The attorney general’s office said it was working with the FBI, the US and Australian Consulate.

A fourth body was found inside the well where the three missing surfers were discovered. Authorities believe it is the decomposed remains of a rancher who owned the property, who was reported missing two weeks earlier.

Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan might not run in Preakness Stakes in potential Triple Crown blow(NYPost.com)

By Associated Press

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The second jewel of horse racing’s Triple Crown could be missing 150th Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan and other co-stars, quashing hopes for a rematch after the thrilling three-wide photo finish in the milestone race.

Trainer Kenny McPeek and the horse’s ownership wouldn’t commit to whether the colt would race in the 149th Preakness on May 18 in Baltimore, which requires a quick two-week turnaround. Mystik Dan will travel to Saratoga, New York, before they decide whether to enter him in the 1 3/16 mile Preakness.

“We’re not committed to the Preakness, not yet,” McPeek said Sunday morning outside his barn on Churchill Downs’ back side. “I ran him back once in two weeks and it completely backfired on me. … So, we’ll just watch him over the next week. It’ll be one of those (situations) where we’ll probably take it up to the last minute.

“We’ll let him tell us.”

The picturesque track in upstate New York will host the Triple Crown’s final jewel for the next three years while Belmont Park is being reconstructed. The Belmont has also been shortened to a 1 1/4 mile, matching the Derby distance that Mystik Dan won by a nose over Sierra Leone and Japan-bred Forever Young in the closest three-way finish since 1947.

The five-week gap follows a more normal race schedule for many thoroughbreds and some trainers might opt to head to Saratoga to acclimate horses sooner.

Chad Brown said Sierra Leone will skip the Preakness and leave on Monday to train at Saratoga and run the Belmont. Considering how much it took for Sierra Leone to navigate other horses and chase down Mystik Dan before falling a nose short at the wire, rest sounds necessary.

“He’s a real laid back horse but when we brought him out, was a little more tired than he normally is after his races,” Brown said. “I think giving him the five weeks to the Belmont is definitely the right thing to do.”

Louisville-born trainer Brad Cox is watching Catching Freedom (fourth) and Just A Touch (20th) before deciding their next steps. Forever Young and fellow Japan-bred T O Password (fifth) are headed home on Tuesday.

That could leave the Preakness without some Derby star power at first glance, though it won’t lack for plotlines with a number of well-rested horses expected to compete at Pimlico Race Course.

Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert could have two entrants as he seeks to follow up National Treasure’s victory there last spring. He trains Santa Anita Derby runner-up Imagination and Arkansas Derby winner Muth, who missed the Derby after failed legal attempts by owner Amr Zedan to get him in despite Baffert’s suspension by Churchill Downs through the end of 2024.

As McPeek and the owners ponder a decision, he and jockey Brian Hernandez Jr. basked in a wash of congratulations for a Derby victory that put them in exclusive company.

Saturday’s win helped both claim rare weekend sweeps of the Derby and Kentucky Oaks for fillies. McPeek is just the third trainer to do that and first since Ben Jones (who did it twice) in 1952, while Hernandez is the eighth rider to achieve the feat and first since fellow Louisiana native and Hall of Famer Calvin Borel in 2009.

Meanwhile, Mystik Dan just stood calm and unfazed as a cluster of onlookers took photos and selfies as workers bathed him outside the barn. He was then draped with the winner’s blanket signifying his Derby win before being led back to his stall with a WWE-style title belt laying on an outer wall. Oaks-winning filly Thorpedo Anna also made a brief appearance and soaked in the attention.

Hernandez is preparing for his own life-changing spotlight and title after claiming the sport’s marquee race. He dined with his family after the Derby but didn’t sleep much, a routine that figures to go on for the next few days amid a flood of interview requests. At some point he hopes to get his mind around all that has happened, but he already has a response ready.

“When somebody asks what my profession is, I’m able to tell them I’m a professional jockey. And then the first question they normally ask is, ‘Have you ever won the Kentucky Derby?’ I can say that now.”

Columbia law students want school to cancel finals, pass all students because they’re ‘irrevocably shaken’ after protest breakup(NYPost.com)

The student editors at the Columbia Law Review want administrators to cancel the law school’s exams and pass all its students after cops cleared out an anti-Israel encampment last week — claiming in a letter that the police action left the student body “irrevocably shaken.”

The letter — penned right after the NYPD dismantled protesters’ tent city Tuesday night and evicted them from nearby Hamilton Hall — also said the school should at least let students receive a simple pass/fail grade because they’re just so upset.

“The violence we witnessed last night has irrevocably shaken many of us on the Review,” the editors whined in the letter, published by Above The Law.

“We know this to be the same for a majority of our classmates,” the editors continued.

“Videos have circulated of police clad in riot gear mocking and brutalizing our students. The events of last night left us, and many of our peers, unable to focus and highly emotional during this tumultuous time.”

The letter added that the confrontation followed “growing distress” students have felt for months “as the humanitarian crisis abroad continues to unfold, and as the blatant antisemitism, Islamophobia and racism on campus have escalated.”

“We believe that canceling exams would be a proportionate response to the level of distress our peers have been feeling,” the editors said.

“In the alternative, making courses mandatory pass/fail would be the next most equitable solution.”

The demonstrations at the Manhattan Ivy are part of dozens of demonstrations at colleges across the country in which students have sought to takeover buildings, build encampments and disrupt classes in protest of Israel’s war in Gaza.

Many students have called for those universities to review their investments in Israel, or stop doing business with the embattled country altogether.

There have been 2,400 arrests at 46 campuses nationwide since April 17.

In the letter, the editors wrote that the school administration has “refused to consider our calls for making all classes this semester mandatory pass/fail,” despite the fact that three-quarters of its students support it.

“We recognize our position as a student-run academic journal that simply cannot function if our students are not well,” said the letter, which was co-signed by five other law journals at the school.

“Many are unwell at this time, and cannot study or concentrate while their peers are being hauled to jail.”

On Sunday, a law school spokesperson would only say that exams resumed Thursday after a one-day suspension and “will be administered through the conclusion of the exam period.”

Hundreds of cops swarmed the Ivy League school’s Morningside Heights campus at about 9 p.m. Tuesday after they were finally given the green light to clear out the pro-Palestine encampment, which had been disrupting campus life since it began weeks ago.

Officers also rooted out rogue rioters who seized control of historic Hamilton Hall, which saw its windows smashed, furniture destroyed and entrances barricaded during the occupation.

Afterward, the university said it regretted having to rely on New York’s Finest to clean up the mess.

“After the University learned overnight that Hamilton Hall had been occupied, vandalized and blockaded, we were left with no choice,” the administration said.

“Columbia public safety personnel were forced out of the building, and a member of our facilities team was threatened. We will not risk the safety of our community or the potential for further escalation.”

Altogether, authorities arrested about 100 protesters. Some students said they still fear for their safety, even as officers trampled the tent city beneath their heels.

“I’m definitely concerned for my fellow students here, because a lot of the students here have never experienced this disconcerting mob mentality,” junior Drake Harding-Paul told The Post. “I definitely don’t feel safe on campus.”

“I think the response last night was long overdue,” he continued. “I really do think it should have happened a long time ago.”

Fetterman says anti-Israel campus protests ‘working against peace’ in Middle East, not putting hostages first(NYPost.com)

Fetterman says anti-Israel campus protests ‘working against peace’ in Middle East

Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., on Sunday slammed the anti-Israel protests that have taken over college campuses nationwide as working against peace in the Middle East, adding that he’s frustrated that those taken hostage by Hamas during the Oct. 7 attack on Israel have not been put first.

Fetterman, who has been outspoken against the protesters, wondered why they are demonstrating against Israel and not Hamas, which he says has refused a recent cease-fire deal during his appearance on CBS’s “Face the Nation.”

“These kinds of protests haven’t been helpful, and ironically, they are actually working against peace in the Middle East as well,” Fetterman said. “And it’s also very strange to me that they’re not actually protesting for a cease-fire now. There’s been a very valid cease-fire that’s been on the table now and Hamas has refused to take that on.”

“And I don’t know why if we’re going to protest, why aren’t we protesting that, demanding Hamas to take that kind of a cease-fire,” the senator continued. “And that would end all of the trauma and chaos going on there in Gaza.”

Fetterman went on to say that he does not support any kind of conditions being placed on Israel, and instead he put responsibility for the current situation entirely on Hamas.

“The situation could end right now if Hamas just surrendered and they just sent all of those hostages home again,” the senator said. “That’s also a thing that I’ve been frustrated, too, is that those hostages should really be in front of the conversations about the situation in Gaza. Sending them home would really, again, end all of this immediately.”

The war in Gaza began after the Oct. 7 Hamas attack on Israel in which the terrorist organization killed 1,200 people and took about 250 people hostage.

Chic hotel in heart of Broadway converted to migrant shelter in latest sign of growing NYC migrant crisis(NYPost.com)

Carl Campanile and

A chic hotel in the heart of Broadway has been quietly operating as a migrant shelter for over a year, The Post has learned, as the Big Apple continues to grapple with the ongoing crisis.

The 141-room Square Hotel at 226 West 50th Street between Eighth Avenue and Broadway is just across from Gershwin Theatre, where the musical “Wicked” is playing.

“To our valued guests: it is with great sadness that we announce the Square Hotel will be closed for the foreseeable future. We appreciate your patronage and hope to welcome you back someday soon,” the Square Hotel says on its Facebook page.

The hotel site still boasts a Japanese restaurant and bar in its lobby and “Art Nouveau styled hotel rooms” with “sophisticated furniture, plush beds with down comforters and deluxe linens, flat-screen televisions with cable and C.O. Bigelow toiletries.”

But recent visits to the Square Hotel found a much different scene.

A National Guard soldier is seen stationed at the entrance of the lobby.

A couple with carry on luggage walked into the hotel on Sunday, but were escorted out by National Guardsmen.

A sign placed at the lobby entrance last week warned that motor bikes chained to scaffolding and poles in front of the hotel would be cut and removed.

One critic said “lazy” hotel operators even in the Great White Way have concluded that it’s more profitable to take the easy money from the city to fully occupy their rooms with migrants rather than book tourists.

“These hotels could be doing a fine tourist business right now, but they are being lazy, and a sure-thing 100-percent occupancy on the city dime, and without having to provide traditional hotel services, is just too good a deal to pass up,” said Nicole Gelinas, a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute.

Other pro-business advocates said it’s sad that the city and the hotel industry are turning the Broadway District into a migrant district.

“We consider the Broadway District a key to the city’s economy. There is only one Broadway —in the entire world!” said state Conservative Party Chairman Gerard Kassar

Kassar said it’s another blow for the Big Apple after the historic Roosevelt Hotel near Grand Central Terminal was converted into a massive migrant shelter and intake center.

But migrants fleeing poverty and upheaval in their homelands said the shelter was a lifeline while they try to find work and become self-sufficient.

“We all pay the price for one or two bad guys. One guy goes to do something bad and then they say all Venezuelans are bad,” Jesus Delber, 27, told The Post.

“But not everyone is like that. I came to work. I didn’t find work for three months. But I didn’t give up. If you are willing to work hard, life will always help you find honest work,” said Delbert.

Theatergoer Nina, a 64-year-old retired executive secretary from Brooklyn was on her way to see “Sign of the Times,” playing at the nearby New World Stages and said the asylum seekers “have to go somewhere.”

“I am an empathic person,” she said.

“But the mayor is not handling this well. The president is not handling this well.”

Retiree Judie Rudman, 57, who came to see Arthur Miller’s “Enemy of The People” with her husband and three kids, said, “I’m more concerned about the migrants than the theater goers,” Rudman said. “If they have a place to stay it makes the city safer.”

A mayoral spokesman said the Square Hotel has been a migrant shelter since last spring.

The nonprofit that works for the improvement of Times Square said that during that time, there have been no issues with the Square Hotel.

“This hotel has been operating as a shelter for over a year without incident or complaint. We have every reason to believe the hotel management and the NYC DHS will continue to do so, and work with the community should an issue arise,” said Tom Harris, president of Times Square Alliance.

More than 100 city hotels have agreed to convert into emergency shelters for migrant families and individuals who have flooded the city from the southern border.

It’s been a godsend for many hotels reeling from closures and lost business during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The city also paid hotels to provide temporary lodging to recovering COVID patients, and medical workers and homeless individuals.

The Post reported last September that the city extended contracts with the hotel association for three years at a staggering price tag of $1.3 billion — nearly five times the original $275 million deal — just to pay rental fees to the vast network of hotels converted into emergency shelters.

The head of the Hotel Association of New York City said hotels are helping the city address a migrant crisis.

“The hotels make their own choices as to whether or not to participate. During the Covid crisis, hotels stepped up to the plate, and when it ended they went back to their normal course of tourism business,” Hotel Association CEO Vijay Dandapani said in a statement.

“We hope when this crisis abates, the hotels will receive help from the City and State such as tax reductions so they can recover, as well.”

Nearly 200,000 migrants have arrived in the Big Apple since spring 2022, overwhelming the city’s shelter population and forcing the Department of Homeless Services to rely on hotels and massive tent cities in Floyd Bennett Field, Creedmoor Psychiatric Center and on the grounds of Kennedy Airport.

New York City is forking over an average of $387 per day to put up a single migrant household in taxpayer-funded shelters, recent data from City Hall show.

Mayor Eric Adams has moved to curb mushrooming migrant costs by setting 30- and 60-day shelter stay limits for individuals and families, respectively.

A mayoral spokesman said the Square Hotel has been a migrant shelter since last spring.

Top House Intel Dem defends ‘very strong vetting process’ as Biden admin considers admitting Gazan refugees to US(NYPost.com)

Ryan King

The top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee ripped GOP uproar over reports the Biden administration is considering admitting Gazan refugees into the US.

Rep. Jim Himes (D-Conn.) dinged Republicans in Congress making a fuss about the possibility and underscored the rigorous vetting processes in place for refugees.

“What I can tell you is that this is not a thing,” Himes told “Fox News Sunday” when asked if he was confident that people coming from Gaza will be appropriately vetted. “The only way that people can apply for refugee status is if they … begin a very lengthy process of vetting,” the rep said, flatly dismissing concerns expressed by some lawmakers on the other side of the aisle.

“A number of Republican senators and over-caffeinated Florida senators may want to be selling an awful lot of fear right now, I would challenge you to come up with examples where refugees who have been vetted have come to this country and committed acts of terrorism.”

The “over-caffeinated Florida senators” jab was likely directed at Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), who appeared on “Fox News Sunday” ahead of Himes.

Last week, CBS News reported that top administration officials have been looking into different pathways to accept a small number of Gazans with family in the US — including some who fled the Palestinian enclave into Egypt to escape the fighting.

Asked about the report at a press briefing last week, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said, “We just don’t have anything to announce at this time.”

Another spokesperson for the White House declined to confirm or deny the report when asked by The Post.

The State Department’s Refugee Admissions Program has accepted just 16 Palestinians into the US since Oct. 1, 2023, according to data as of March 31.

“While we will continue to admit refugees from around the world, as is our international legal obligation, it is a very strong vetting process,” Himes reiterated.

Vetting typically screens for factors such as security red flags, medial history, eligibility, and more.

Aspiring refugees would also likely have to provide evidence that they are fleeing some form of persecution, political persecution in particular.

It may be tricky for Gazans to claim they are trying to escape persecution from Israel, given that the Jewish state is a key US ally in the region.

Israel-Hamas war 4

Last week, Rubio and over 30 other Republican senators penned a letter to President Biden demanding answers about possible plans to admit Palestinian refugees.

“Unfortunately, the risk of terrorists entering our homeland is no hypothetical matter,” they wrote. “We are also concerned that any U.S. refugee plan may exacerbate the tense situation at the Gaza-Egypt border.”

Both Himes and Rubio, ranking member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, are members of the so-called “Gang of Eight” in Congress who receive high-level classified briefings.

Himes slammed Rubio for painting leading Democrats as “radical extremists” over their lack of clarity on where they would draw the line on abortion, especially during the later stages of pregnancy.

Anti-Israel protests 4

“I’m not quite sure if Marco just had too much coffee this morning. But, you know, the notion that we’re extremists on this topic is just madness,” Himes responded.

“Democrats are generally where the American people are, which is where the world was before the Dobbs decision that until the point of viability, this is a decision to be made between a woman and her doctor.”

Medical viability for a fetus is generally pegged somewhere around 24 weeks of gestation.

Houston police officer rescues Texas man, 3 dogs from flooding along San Jacinto River

HOUSTON – Video shared by the Houston Police Department shows the dramatic rescue of a man and three dogs from flooding caused by days of relentless rain that pounded parts of East Texas and caused several rivers and streams to overflow their banks, inundating several communities across the region.

According to a Facebook post from the Houston Police Department, Marine Enforcement Unit Officer H. Scott was patrolling an area in north Houston on Saturday when he heard a man yelling for help from a mobile home park in an area where the San Jacinto River entered Lake Houston.

After hearing the cries for help, Officer Scott responded to the area on a jet ski and found the unidentified man in 8-10 feet of water.

The video showed the officer helping the man and his dog onto the back of the jet ski before entering the water to help get the man’s second dog onboard.

While speaking with other officers, he was alerted to another dog stuck in the flood waters, with its head barely above the water’s surface.

The video shows Officer Scott approaching the terrified pup and getting that one to safety, too.

Hundreds of people have needed to be rescued from flooding after several rivers, including the Trinity River and San Jacinto River, overflowed their banks when some areas picked up more than 10 inches of rain last week.

Evacuations were ordered in several communities, roads were blocked and schools were shut down as communities began to be overwhelmed by flooding.

More thunderstorms and rain fell across the region on Sunday, but the flooding is expected to subside this week.

An outbreak of gang violence on Sunday forced cops in Chicago to abruptly cancel the Second City’s annual Cinco de Mayo parade, police announced.

“Out of an abundance of caution, the Cinco de Mayo parade has been canceled to protect the safety of all in attendance, including families and children,” the department said on X.

“This decision was made in agreement between CPD’s 10th District, elected officials and parade organizers following gang violence in the area,” police said. “At this time, multiple arrests have been made, including gun arrests.

“CPD is currently clearing the parade route and asking all parade-goers to return home safely.”

Latest Israel-Hamas peace talks 'near collapse' as Netanyahu...(NYPost.com)

By Alex Oliveira

Talks of a Gaza ceasefire appeared to collapse Sunday as Hamas envoys left negotiations – and Israeli leaders pledged to renew its military operations soon.

“The latest round of mediation in Cairo is near to collapse,” an official close to the talks told Reuters as Hamas leaders left Cairo and returned to Qatar Sunday evening.

Though Hamas and Israel had “in-depth and serious discussions” on a deal that would see a number of hostages released in return for a 40 day ceasefire, according to the Guardian, the terror group has indicated it will not take any deal that doesn’t involve a permanent end to hostilities.

Hamas’ delegation is expected to return to negotiations on Tuesday, but Isreali leaders are losing optimism that the terror group has any real intent to make a deal.

“We are observing worrying signs that Hamas does not intend to reach an agreement with us,” said Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant.

“This means strong military action in Rafah will begin in the very near future, and in the rest of the Strip.”

Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu echoed Gallant’s rhetoric while discussing the weekend talks.

“While Israel has shown willingness, Hamas remains entrenched in its extreme positions, first among them the demand to remove all our forces from the Gaza Strip, end the war, and leave Hamas in power,” the prime minister said.

“Israel cannot accept that.”

While delivering a speech for Israel’s Holocaust Remembrance Day Sunday, Netanyahu doubled down and said Israel was willing to carry on its war against Hamas even if the rest of the world abandons the cause.

“If Israel is forced to stand alone, Israel will stand alone,” Netanyahu declared.

“I say to the leaders of the world — no amount of pressure, no decision by any international forum will stop Israel from defending itself,” he said. “Never again is now.”

Netanyahu’s stark words coupled with Gallant’s warning suggest a new phase may be about to begin in the war sparked when Hamas attacked Israel on Oc. 7.

Rafah, Gaza’s southernmost city on the border of Egypt, has been an enclave for over a million Palestinian refugees as war has consumed the northern reaches of the strip.

Israel War Update

Get the most important developments in the region, globally and locally.

But despite being a haven for humanitarian aid, Israel believes thousands of Hamas troops are also hiding out and operating within the city.

Fearing high casualties that might result from a Rafah operation, the US has been “exerting maximum pressure” on Qatar — which has close ties to Hamas — to push the group and Israel into remaining in negotiations, a source told Reuters.

Tear gas deployed during I-80 standoff

A crazed gunman led cops on a wild chase on a California highway before trying to kill himself with his own firearm, according to police.

The madness began around 11 a.m. Friday on Highway 101 in Windsor and ended on I-80 near Fairfield — about 40 miles southwest of Sacramento — with the suspect critically wounded, WKGO-TV reported.

Police said the man, who was not identified, fired off a shot at another car, shattering the rear window and narrowly missing a woman inside before he took off in a silver Toyota sedan.

US Air Force Secretary Kendall flies in cockpit of plane controlled by AI: ‘Security risk not to have it’(NYPost.com)

By Greg Wehner , Fox News

US Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall rode in the cockpit of a fighter jet on Friday, which flew over the desert in California and was controlled by artificial intelligence.

Last month, Kendall announced his plans to fly in an AI-controlled F-16 to the US Senate Appropriations Committee’s defense panel, while speaking about the future of air warfare being dependent on autonomously operated drones.

On Friday, the senior Air Force leader followed through with his plans, making what could be one of the biggest advances in military aviation since stealth planes were introduced in the early 1990s.

Kendall flew to Edwards Air Force Base – the same desert facility where Chuck Yeager broke the sound barrier – to watch and experience AI flight in real time.

After the flight, Kendall spoke with the Associated Press about the technology and the role it will play in air combat.

“It’s a security risk not to have it. At this point, we have to have it,” the secretary said.

The Associated Press and NBC were granted permission to watch the secret flight with the agreement that neither would report on the matter until the flight was complete, due to security concerns.

The F-16 controlled by AI is called Vista, and it flew Kendall in maneuvers reaching over 550 mph, putting pressure on his body of nearly five times the force of gravity.

Flying alongside Vista and Kendall was a human-piloted F-16, and the two jets raced within 1,000 feet of each other performing twists and loops, in an effort to force their opponent into a place of submission.

Kendall grinned as he climbed out of the cockpit after the hour-long flight, saying he saw enough to trust the AI technology in deciding whether to fire weapons during a war.

Many oppose the idea of computers making that decision, fearing AI may one day be able to drop bombs on people without consulting with humans.

The same people who oppose AI-powered war machines are also seeking greater restrictions on its use.

One of the groups seeking stronger restrictions is the International Committee of the Red Cross.

“There are widespread and serious concerns about ceding life-and-death decisions to sensors and software,” the group warned, adding the autonomous weapons “are an immediate cause of concern and demand an urgent, international political response.”

Still, Kendall says human oversight will always be at play when weapons are considered.

The Air Force is planning to have an AI-enabled fleet of over 1,000 AI-operated drones, with the first being in operation by 2028.

Kendall announced his plans to fly in an AI-controlled F-16 to the US Senate Appropriations Committee’s defense panel. AP

In March, the Pentagon said it was looking to develop new artificial intelligence-guided planes, offering two contracts for several private companies to compete against each other to obtain.

The Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA) project is part of a $6 billion program that will add at least 1,000 new drones to the Air Force.

The drones will be designed to deploy alongside human-piloted jets and provide cover for them, acting as escorts with full weapons capabilities.

The drones could also act as scouts or communications hubs, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal.

The companies bidding for the contract include Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, General Atomics and Anduril Industries.

He flew over the desert in California and was controlled by artificial intelligence. AP

Cost-cutting is one of the elements of AI that appeals to the Pentagon for pursuing the project.

In August 2023, Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks said deploying AI-enabled autonomous vehicles would provide “small, smart, cheap and many” expendable units to the US military, helping overhaul the “too-slow shift of U.S. military innovation.”

But the idea is to not fall too far behind China, which has modernized its air defense systems, which are much more sophisticated and put manned planes at risk when they get too close.

Drones have the potential of interrupting such defense systems and could be used to jam them or provide surveillance for crews.

Left-leaning outlet mocked for being surprised on who is funding anti-Israel protests: ‘Surprising to who?’(NYPost.com)

By Hanna Panreck , Yael Halon, Fox News

Anti-Israel protesters who have descended on college campuses are reportedly getting funding from several big-name Democratic donors, according to a report, that have backed President Biden’s re-election efforts.

Democratic donors such as George Soros, the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation, David Rockefeller Jr., who sits on the board of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, and Susan and Nick Pritzker, who own the Hyatt Hotel corporation, have funded pro-Palestinian efforts to protest the Israel-Hamas war, Politico reported.

Jewish Voice for Peace and IfNotNow are the main organizations behind the anti-Israel protests at Columbia University, as well as other campuses, according to the outlet.

They are backed by the Tides Foundation, which receives a substantial amount of funding from Soros, as well as the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation, and distributes money to left-wing causes.

The Rockefeller Fund donated $300,000 to the Tides Foundation in 2022, according to Politico.

The Tides Foundation has given $500,000 to Jewish Voice for Peace, a far-left, anti-Zionist organization, who blamed the Oct. 7 attacks on Israel and the US, rather than Hamas.

The Politico report, headlined, “Pro-Palestianian protesters are backed by a surprising source: Biden’s biggest donors,” was panned online Sunday for finally acknowledging what others had reported months ago.

According to a report, many of the organizations funding anti-Israel protests at college campuses are also donating to President Biden's re-election campaign. 3

“This is actually the least “surprising” thing I have heard all year,” Chaya Raichik, Libs of TikTok creator, wrote on X.

“Glad you guys could make it,” Washington Free Beacon reporter Joe Gabriel Simonso quipped.

Republican Alabama Sen. Katie Britt commented, “*A completely unsurprising source.”

“Surprising to who?” Rep. Jim Banks, R-Ind., responded.

“The journalists at Politico apparently the only people on the planet “surprised” by this,” Spectator contributing editor Stephen L. Miller wrote.

“This is only “surprising” if you’re brand new to following Democrat money in politics,” GOP communicator Matt Whitlock replied.

Gabe Kaminsky, investigative reporter for the Washington Examiner, posted several previous reports indicating that Soros and other liberal dark money groups were funding anti-Israel causes.

“Just so much surprisingness!” Washington Examiner columnist Ian Haworth mocked.

In addition to the anti-Israel protests happening across college campuses, protesters have also repeatedly interrupted President Biden’s and other prominent Democratic leaders’ speeches and events.

They call Biden “Genocide Joe,” and continue to protest the US involvement in Israel’s war with Hamas.

The Pritzkers also backed groups that are involved in the pro-Palestinian demonstrations.

They have also resoundingly supported the president and donated $300,000 to his 2020 campaign.

“Why [is the Rockefeller Fund] giving significant grants to Jewish Voice for Peace, [which] blamed the horrific Oct. 7 attacks on Israel and the United States rather than Hamas?” Elisha Wiesel, a Democratic donor who chairs the Elie Wiesel Foundation, told Politico.

The president spoke out against antisemitism and violent protests on Thursday in a quick speech, but reaffirmed his support for the right to peacefully protest.

“We are not an authoritarian nation where we silence people or squash dissent. The American people are heard. In fact, peaceful protest is in the best tradition of how Americans respond to consequential issues. But neither are we a lawless country. We’re a civil society and order must prevail,” Biden said at the White House.

“So let me be clear… Violent protest is not protected. Peaceful protest is. It’s against the law when violence occurs. Destroying property is not a peaceful protest. It’s against the law. Vandalism. Trespassing. Breaking windows. Shutting down campuses. Forcing the cancellation of classes and graduations. None of this is a peaceful protest,” Biden continued. “Threatening people. Intimidating people. Instilling fear in people is not peaceful protest. It’s against the law,” he said.

Fox News Digital reported in April that a left-wing dark money group funded by Soros would provide bail and legal support for anti-Israel activists who were arrested after blocking major roads and highways nationwide.

The demonstrations were largely organized by A15 Action, a recently created group that said it would “coordinate a multi-city economic blockade on April 15 in solidarity with Palestine.”

Under the group’s “resources” section on its website, users are pointed to a “bail and legal defense fund” hosted by ActBlue, the leading fundraising platform for Democratic campaigns and groups nationwide.

Jake Paul says he has ‘to end’ Mike Tyson now that fight is sanctioned(NYPost.com)

Christian Arnold

Jake Paul has no problem singing the praises of boxing legend Mike Tyson, but when the two step in the ring in July, the internet personality turned boxer said, “I have to end him.”

Paul and Tyson will go at in at AT&T Stadium in Texas on July 20 and Paul was on hand for this weekend’s Formula One Miami Grand Prix when he was asked about the upcoming bout.

“I love Mike. I’m super respectful of him. It’s an honor to be in the ring with him. But I have to end him,” Paul told USA Today on Sunday. “It’s war. All is fair in love and war. I love the guy, but as soon as it turned into a pro fight, one of us has to die.”

Paul first stepped into the ring in 2018 when he fought YouTuber Deji Olatunji and has continued to box since, with Tyson having said in the past that Paul has done “more for boxing than some of the champions did.”

The Tyson-Paul fight will be streamed on Netflix and there is a 20-year age gap between the combatants.

“He’s a legend. I love the guy,” Paul said. “But at the end of the day, it’s war and you just have to go to war and put it all on the line. I still have the utmost respect for him, and I think he’ll say the same about me and what I’ve done for the sport.”

Mike Tyson last fought professionally in 2005. He is 50-6 with 44 knockouts and a former Undisputed World Heavyweight Champion. AP

The fight between the two was announced on March 7, and on April 29, it was announced that the fight would be sanctioned as a professional boxing match.

There were also some modifications to the rules made for the fight, including two-minute rounds and 14-ounce gloves that will be used.

Last week, there had been some dispute as to which side suggested the modifications, according to USA Today.

NY state bill would limit massive rent hike at Billionaire’s Row Co-Op(NYPost.com)

Carl Campanile

A bill proposed by state lawmakers seeks to prevent skyrocketing rental costs for 25,000 co-op apartment dwellers in buildings with ground leases — including some in Manhattan’s wealthiest neighborhoods.

Most co-ops own the building and the land underneath it.

But there are about 100 co-op buildings throughout the city that have ground leases because someone else owns the land underneath the property — including the 324-unit Carnegie House on “Billionaire’s Row” — at 100 West 57th Street.

The New York state Capitol 4

The bill proposed by state lawmakers seeks to prevent skyrocketing rental costs for 25,000 co-op apartment dwellers in buildings. AP

When the building’s lease is set to expire, an appraiser evaluates the land’s value, which is then used to negotiate a rent increase between the landowner and the co-ops.

The landowner could demand a big increase when the lease expires, correlating with higher market value of the building. Or negotiate a steep sale price for the land.

As The Post previously reported, the lease at the Carnegie House expires in March 2025, and the new landowner not involved in crafting the current lease said the rent should be based on what they paid for the building, quadruple the previous valuation.

Some old-time co-op tenants say they couldn’t afford such a steep price, and the end of the ground lease makes it difficult to sell the apartments.

The legislation introduced by Sen. Liz Krueger (D-Manhattan) and Assemblywoman Linda Rosenthal (D-Manhattan) would limit mass spikes in annual lease payments, much like limiting hikes for rent-stabilized apartments.

For shareholders in co-op buildings, higher costs would be paid through monthly and annual rental costs that support the buildings.

Carnegie House-100 W 57th St., NYC 4

The lease at the Carnegie House expires in March 2025, and the new landowner not involved in crafting the current lease said the rent should be based on what they paid for the building. Matthew McDermott

“Apartments in ground lease buildings are generally priced 20-30% below market value, leading some to believe that they are buying an affordable home. However, residents in buildings with ground leases pay higher than average monthly maintenance fees, and often face steep rent hikes once the ground lease expires,” Krueger and Rosenthal said in their memo in support of the bill.

“Some residents have difficulty selling their home, especially near the end of a ground lease term, since purchasing an apartment with an expiring ground lease is too risky for potential homebuyers,” they said.

They said it’s important to prevent homeowners from facing foreclosure and possible bankruptcy.

“This legislation will protect residents from exorbitant increases and ensure they receive a fair deal when negotiating rent increases once the ground lease expires,” the lawmakers said.

There’s heavy lobbying on both sides of the issue.

The Real Estate Board of New York and landowners are fighting to block it, claiming its limitations on increases in leases is a handout to well-to-do-co apartment owners.

“This bill is an unconstitutional solution in search of a problem. It is simply bad public policy to give a legislative handout to the millionaire co-op owners who bought their homes at cut prices years ago with full knowledge of these ground lease arrangements,” said Zachary Steinberg, REBNY’s senior vice president of policy.

Murray Hill Coop 4

There are about 100 co-op buildings throughout the city that have ground leases because someone else owns the land underneath the property.

Sheepshead Terrace (Brooklyn) 4

The landowner could demand a big increase when the lease expires, correlating with higher market value of the building.

Krueger disputed the claim that her bill is a bailout for the wealthy.

“Very few of these co-ops are owned by millionaires. Legal memos show this bill is constitutional,” the senator, who represents the Upper East Side and much of the West Side around Central Park.

The Ground Lease Coop Coalition (GLCC) will hold a press conference and advocacy rally in Albany on Tuesday, arguing the legislation will protect mostly middle class and working class apartment owners.

They mention co-op buildings that would benefit from the legislation include the 168-unit Sheepshead Terrace in Brooklyn, whose lease expires in 2052; and the Murray Hill Coop in Flushing and the 72-unit Shoreview in Far Rockaway, both Queens buildings whose lease expires in 2053.

Some critics wondered why the co-op landlease issue did not come up as part of the affordable housing package deal that was approved as part of the state budget adopted last month.

Ex-Trump prosecutor Nathan Wade doesn’t regret Fani Willis affair, but the firestorm it started: ‘American as apple pie’(NYPost.com)

Alex Oliveira

Former Donald Trump prosecutor Nathan Wade suggested in a new interview that he didn’t regret his affair with Fani Willis — but instead expressed remorse over the firestorm of controversy it caused.

Wade offered the comments in his first sit-down since he resigned from the Georgia election interference case in March after a judge ruled that either he or Willis — the Fulton County district attorney — had to step aside.

Asked by ABC News’ Linsey Davis if he regretted the relationship with Willis, who remains on the case, Wade gave a roundabout response.

“I regret that that private matter became the focal point of this very important prosecution,” Wade said.

“This is a very important case,” he said. “I hate that my personal life has begun to overshadow the true issues in the case.”

As for the affair itself, Wade seemed to brush off the relationship that still threatens to upend the DA’s case against the former president.

“Workplace romances are as American as apple pie,” Wade said.

“It happens to everyone. But it happened to the two of us.”

Wade resigned from the election interference case after one of Trump’s co-defendants alleged the prosecutor and the DA were having an affair before he was hired in 2021.

Wade and Willis conceded they were linked romantically, but insisted nothing started between them until 2022 after Wade was selected to prosecute the Trump case, and that things ended in 2023.

But a former DA employee, among others, said the pair were an item beginning around 2019 or 2020.

It was also alleged that Willis prolonged the case against Trump and his co-defendants so Wade could rake in more pay and take her on lavish trips.

After a hearing in March, Fulton County Judge Scott McAfee ruled there wasn’t enough evidence to substantiate a conflict of interest, but wrote in a scathing opinion that “an odor of mendacity remains.”

“I regret that that private matter became the focal point of this very important prosecution,” Wade said. ABC News

His ruling was that either Willis or Wade must step down from the case. Wade bowed out within hours.

Wade conceded to ABC that he and Willis could have put a stop to their feelings and held off until after their case, but that romance doesn’t always follow the rules of logic.

“When you are in the middle of it, these feelings are developing and you get to a point where the feelings are so strong that you start to want to do things that really are none of the public’s concern,” he said.

A trio of bandits who allegedly killed three men on a surfing trip in Mexico had targeted the victims’ truck so they could take its tires, prosecutors revealed Sunday.

The Baja California Prosecutor’s Office released more grisly details in the murders of Australian brothers Jake, 30, and Callum Robinson, 33, and American Jack Carter Rhoad, 30, who were last seen alive on April 27 during a trip in the city of Ensenada.

Their bodies of the three surfers found last week were positively identified Sunday by their families, Baja California state prosecutors said Sunday.

Chief state prosecutor Maria Elena Andrade Ramirez said during a press conference the alleged killers decided to target the surfers when they noticed their truck and tents.

“They approached, with the intention of stealing their vehicle and taking the tires and other parts to put them on the older-model pickup they were driving,” said Andrade Ramirez.

“When they (the foreigners) came up and caught them, surely, they resisted,” she added. “And these people, the assailants, took out a gun and first they killed the one who was putting up resistance against the vehicle theft, and then others came along and joined the fight to defend their property and their companion who had been attacked, and they killed them too.”

Following the fatal confrontation, the suspects then burned the three men’s tents before they dumped their bodies into a 50-feet deep well that was four miles from the murder scene, she said.

The thieves then covered the well with boards, the prosecutor said.

“It was literally almost impossible to find it,” Andrade Ramirez said of the well.

Even before the slain surfers were formally identified by their relatives, authorities were confident the bodies belonged to the Robinson brothers and Rhoad, who hailed from San Diego.

A truck, which was burned out, was also found by authorities nearby and is suspected of belonging to the surfers.

A fourth body, which was badly decomposed, was also found when the other three bodies were recovered. It is believed to be the remains of a rancher who owned the property and went missing two weeks earlier.

Police have arrested Jesús Gerardo Garcia Cota, alias El Kekas, his partner Ari Gisel García Cota, and Jesus’ brother Cristian Alejandro Garcia in connection to the three surfers’ disappearance, but haven’t charged them with murder.

At least one of the suspects, Jesus Gerardo, was believed to have directly been part of the slayings.

Meanwhile, a buddy of Callum recalled how he told him about his favorite surfing spot in Baja, La Bocana, and wrote out directions on a napkin, according to a report.

Randy Dible, a San Diego photographer, said he almost tagged along but had to cancel when a last minute job came in, according to a News.com.au, which cited an interview Dible did with The Australian.

“I told him about this place because I’d been travelling down there all over that country for 30 years so I know it like the back of my hand and I knew just where to go,” Dible told the outlet.

Dible now regrets ever mentioning the surfing spot to Callum.

“I wish I’d never met up with him that day, I feel really bad. I feel guilty. It’s just starting to hit home,” he reportedly said.

The three men had been posting about the idyllic surfing trip along the Pacific Coast leading up the gruesome tragedy.

Embattled ABC News President Kim Godwin steps down: sources(NYPost.com)

Embattled ABC News President Kim Godwin announced she was calling it quits Sunday night as she faced heightened scrutiny from corporate superiors over her job performance — and months after she was stripped of much of her power, sources confirmed to The Post.

“I have decided to retire from broadcast journalism,” Godwin said in a staff memo obtained by The Post.

“Anyone who’s passionate about what we do knows there’s no other business like it, so this was not an easy or quick decision,” she wrote.

“But after considerable reflection, I’m certain it’s the right one for me as I look to the future and prioritize what’s most important for me and my family.”

Godwin started her career in journalism four decades ago and reached her professional pinnacle when she was selected to run ABC News a little more than three years ago, becoming the first black woman to lead a national broadcast news operation.

But her tenure was tumultuous and she appeared to lose most of her sway when she was effectively demoted in February after Disney, which owns ABC News, underwent a restructuring, insiders previously told The Post.

She insisted at the time she was still in charge following the reshuffling, sources said.

Godwin’s departure comes as Disney corporate overlords have been conducting a thorough review of her leadership, CNN reported last week.

An ABC corporate logo hangs on the side of their building on 66th Street on September 20, 2023.

Debra OConnell, who was promoted to a leadership position that puts ABC News under her purview, was said to be shocked by Godwin’s mismanagement of the money-making division that includes “Good Morning America” and “World News Tonight, the outlet reported.

In her memo to staff Sunday, Godwin lauded ABC News’ top spot in the ratings among broadcast news and other accomplishments achieved during her tenure.

“Over the years, hundreds of you have sent emails, texts, and made phone calls that have lifted my heart. In this consequential election year, as we look to the months ahead, the importance of what we do cannot be overstated. Remember, there is joy in journalism,” she stated.

“I leave with my head held high and wish the entire team continued success.”

The Wall Street Journal first reported Godwin’s retirement.

For now, OConnell will run the show, she told staff Sunday, according to a CNN report.

“Since assuming this role in February, my goal has been — and will continue to be — to provide this team with the means necessary to build on our success and carry on the proud tradition of ABC News into a future full of opportunity and innovation,” OConnell reportedly said to staff.

Soldier in Brazil hammers through roof to save baby from flood: Video(NYPost.com)

Hillary Andrews, FOX Weather

LAJEADO, Brazil – Deadly flooding filling up homes in southern Brazil chased families to the roofs and attics to wait and hope for rescue.

Roofs are now the only islands in a muddy sea.

In the video above, an Army soldier is seen using a brick to hammer through the roof of a house to make the hole big enough to pull a baby to safety.

He does this while suspended by a wire from a helicopter.

Another video shows dry-suit-clad rescuers gently placing a 4-month-old with pneumonia into a chopper, followed by his mother, to head to a hospital for treatment.

Next, the helicopter hovers over the roof of a home, turned into an island, to pull two more babies to safety.

Video after video from Army Aviation Command shows desperate residents waving down helicopters from on top of roofs with muddy water past the eaves.

Drivers can be seen clinging to their dogs and hoods of cars, suffering from hypothermia and awaiting rescue.

Search and rescue crews have packed aircraft to capacity with children, moms, dads, seniors and dogs. One chopper held 30 survivors.

Deadly flooding

Two-thirds of the Rio Grande do Sur state is currently inundated, according to Civil Defense. That impacts nearly 800,000 people across the countryside, towns and cities.

Many still in their homes have no water or electricity.

As of midday Sunday, flooding killed 75 people and injured 155 more, while 103 are still missing.

So far, more than 88,000 people have been evacuated, but shelters only hold 16,600 of them.

Heavy, torrential rains have plagued the Rio Grande do Sul region for an entire week.

The town of Bento Goncalves recorded more than 21 inches of rain in the storm, while several other gauges in the area reported over 19 inches of rain.

The National Institute of Meteorology expects another 4 inches to fall on Sunday.

The Guaiba River in Puerto Alegre, the state capital, is 7 feet past flood stage at this point, the highest on record. The main airport remains closed.

A hydroelectric dam burst Saturday, sending a 6-foot wave downstream and into communities.

Fourth major flood in 12 months

The state is still recovering from several deadly floods in the past year. An extratropical cyclone wreaked havoc in September 2023.

A week of severe thunderstorms flooded southern Brazil in November 2023.

Several municipalities declared a State of Emergency in July 2023 after storms dropped flooding rain.

The BBC reported that the three previous tragedies together took 75 lives.

In a press conference, the governor of Rio Grande do Sur said the current flooding was the worst disaster in the state’s history.

Frat Boy Summer is this year’s backlash against an epidemic of arrogant, entitled women

Miranda Devine

the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill student Dan Stompel

University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill student Dan Stompel defended an American flag from campus protesters. While women vote further left, men are leaning into the frat boy vibes. FOX

Behold the “frat boys” unapologetically saving Old Glory, singing the national anthem, chanting “USA, USA, USA,” and rudely ridiculing the campus freaks who parade around in Hamas colors and barricade themselves in university buildings.

God Forbid! They look like Trump voters.

This display of irrepressible masculinity erupting in Gen Z is an affront to the grand societal feminization project of the left, which only has itself to blame.

Frat Boy Summer is this year’s backlash against an epidemic of arrogant, entitled women who have been coddled all their lives and think they’re smarter and more important than they really are.

It is a manifestation of the growing political divide between men and women that has been evident in opinion polls for some time. There is a 10-point gap on most issues between men and women.

Young unmarried women, in particular, skew very left, while young men are becoming markedly more conservative.

Growing gap

The latest ABC-IPSOS poll over the weekend showed Donald Trump winning the under-30s by five points over Joe Biden, 48% to 43%. That that was entirely down to Trump’s huge 12-point advantage with young men, 54% to 43%.

Young women favored Biden by three points, 44% to 41%, still a rather anemic vote of confidence considering all the “Handmaid’s Tale”-style propaganda being thrown at them about abortion and Trump’s beastly ways.

It’s a nightmare scenario for Biden, who has been counting on the youth vote to win him the election like it did in 2020. Hence his desperate pandering to Gen Z.

The president is splashing around billions of taxpayer dollars on student debt relief, relaxing cannabis legislation, championing “trans kids” as the greatest heroes of their generation and inviting gender-fluid young Tik Tok influencers to VIP events at the White House. This is not your granddad’s Joe Biden.

But none of it can close the growing ideological gulf between the sexes, which has its roots in the unjust treatment of boys and young men in recent decades.

The college gender gap was a crisis when men outnumbered women up until the 1980s, but now that there are three women for every two men in college, we must rejoice. You go, girl!

Now there are 1 million fewer men in college than in 2011, according to Pew Research, with one-quarter of male Ivy Leaguers identifying as LGBT. It’s sexual reparations that nobody had a say in.

There is a cohort of women who are giving the fairer sex a bad name. These toxic femmes gobbled up the unjust privileges of affirmative action and the punitive fakery that the #MeToo movement became and then found they were more miserable than ever.

So they doubled down, offloading blame onto the patriarchy or toxic masculinity or whatever excuse they could find to avoid looking in the mirror.

During the pandemic they were given the name “Karen” as they marched around in masks enforcing petty rules or flew into aggressive rages during minor parking lot encounters.

When accountability occasionally finds them, they are flabbergasted beyond belief, while the rest of the world quietly revels in their comeuppance.

Karine Jean-Pierre is the avatar of the entitled female.

The White House press secretary is simply horrible at her job. She’s not on top of her material and never provides a coherent answer to reporters’ questions.

But instead of showing a little humility and upping her game she does interviews boasting about how awesome she is at “the hardest job in the White House . . . I’m an historic figure and I walk in history every day.”

Women’s colleges

The current campus protests have showcased the narcissism of these delusional damsels on social media for all to see:

The females at the University of Virginia whining: “It’s raining!” when finally told to pack up their tents.

The campus radical who held a press conference to demand that Columbia University supply food and water to her comrades who had barricaded themselves inside a building. “This is like basic humanitarian aid,” said Johannah King-Slutzky, a Ph.D. student who sported the latest in terrorist chic, a keffiyeh around her neck.

The academic at Emory University who screamed, “I am a professor!” when she was arrested for assaulting a cop. “I hit him on the head very lightly to get his attention and they grabbed me, threw me to the ground and arrested me,” Caroline Fohlin whined as she was carted away.

The activist in California who stood up at a city council meeting and threatened to kill councilors who opposed a Gaza cease-fire resolution: “We’ll see you at your house. We’ll murder you,” she fiercely vowed. Next time we saw Riddhi Patel she was bawling her eyes out in court after being arrested and charged with threatening state officials.

These are not people anyone can admire. They believe they are entitled to privileges and protections they did not earn and do not deserve.

The losers in the equation have been young men, especially if they are white and heterosexual and wish to remain male with their genitalia intact.

They are the new forgotten people, derided for who they are.

Since they have nothing to lose and nobody has earned their respect, the frat boys will be as rude and obnoxious as they like. If their very intrinsic maleness is offensive, then why bother trying to be polite or chivalrous? Instead, they lean into their power in a rather Trumpian way.

Talking like Trump

Whatever else can be said about Donald Trump, he is undeniably, irredeemably masculine. The way he walks, the way he talks, the way he dresses, his lusty appreciation for attractive women, all of it is anachronistic in a world that abhors masculinity, and that probably is half his appeal — to men, and to the women who still love men.

Regardless of Trump, Gallup polls show that the percentage of young men, aged 18 to 29, who identify as Republican has increased 11 points in a decade, from 38% in 2013 to 49% in 2023, with a big jump from 42% after the pandemic.

This is the cohort whose school and college years were affected by COVID-19. Perhaps school-age boys resented the strictures of lockdowns more than girls and rejected the safety obsessions of females in authority.

Whatever the cause, young men aged 18-29 are now 30% more conservative than their ultra-liberal female counterparts.

Women aged 18-34 became increasingly liberal and Democratic in the past decade, according to polling data reported by The New York Times last week.

Women went from 55% to 60% identifying as Democratic and from 29% to 22% Republican between 2012 and 2023. They went from 32% to 51% liberal and from 29% to 17% conservative.

“You stand no chance, old lady!” one frat boy type told a woman trying to wrestle him for a barricade at a protest at UCLA last week. Nature always finds a way to assert itself, and it isn’t always pretty.

FUCKING BOOM... DRIZZLE DRIZZLE
