I sincerely hope there will be anons around whether here or elsewhere to talk about it. While it will no doubt be political shit (and the writing will likely suffer as a result), my fingers are crossed that at least the dialogue will have improved, since they're supposedly not freelancing writers (as badly anyway) as they did with Gen 4. I just hope that at least anons will have some creativity left over to come up with silly headcanons like when Gen 4 started. I'm just not sure anons are intelligent enough to be able to dislike the show and with good points, though considering many anons think the newer seasons have good writing, I'm not so sure about that while trying to make something out of it.

Shit man. Looking back on my life, picking up MLP was sort of the beginning of my journey to the man I am today. I first came to imageboards in 2012 looking for a new pony community after the one I'd been a part of fell apart. /mlp/ was my first board. From there I branched out to /pol/, /fit/, [s4s], 4chon, and when the exodus to 8chan happened I found my way to /tech/, /christian/, and /tv/. My current political opinions, my workout habits, my sense of humor, my ability to use a command line, my tastes in books, movies, TV shows, animes, my dreams for the future, and even my current job can all be traced back to a decision to lurk for a month on /mlp/ seven years ago.

And now MLP is almost finished. Of course I know that the good times in this community have been over for a good few years now, but thinking about the final ending fills me with a sort of quiet melancholy. It's both hilarious and tragic that I owe so much to a cheap Canadian flash cartoon about talking magic horses.

Heh.

"Lesson Zero" had the best lesson for adults, let alone kids, because plenty of adults don't take things seriously that ought to be. Nu/pol/tards and other kiddies and child-men as opposed to menchildren, who are not necessarily retarded with the minds of children :^) will joke about chink bugmen, but that behavior is developmental, and is not racial, despite the Oriental's perceived lack of empathy ("perceived" because these child-men are rather hyper-emotional, being normalfags).

Anons, this is the end.

The world has changed. The entire toy market has gone digital, and the dinosaurs are being left behind.

The problem is, those dinosaurs don't know they're doing the wrong thing, since it has always worked for them. But kids don't watch TV anymore, and all those ads on TV (ITS GAK GAK GAK, GAK GAK GAK -) now fall on deaf ears.

The horse fans were the first. the anomaly. the thing that shouldn't have happened. Horse fans were actually a warning; times are changing. Horse fans created an entire fanbase out of thin air on the web and kept a show alive that would've died 4 years ago otherwise along with the rest of The Hub. It was the sign that TV and retail for toys have to be abandoned in favor of the digital.

Almost no one listened. MGA adapted to the new online circumstances and are now dominating the charts with toys like LOL!Surprise.

Now those dinosaurs are walking into their graves.

First it was Toys r Us.

Then it was Top Toys

Then it was Intertoys

Other retailers are in deep trouble as well.

Now the "TV toys" are next on the chopping block; any and all tv-toy brand not in the digital market will fall by default.

The newest Littlest Pet Shop died with barely anyone knowing it existed, only gathering 30-80.000 viewers per episode. It was cancelled after 1 season.

Butterfly Rainbow Unicorn Kitty has only 10-20.000 views per episode apart from the pilot and is currently half-way through its first season.

Transformers is doing poorly at the box office and not many are watching the new show AFAIK.

G.I. Joe isn't much more than a blip on the radar since 2012.

And Pony… MLP The Movie was nothing more than a list of checkmarks the "executives, share- and stakeholders" wanted it to have, not a tale the little girls or Bronies wanted. It was a catastrophe, barely making its money back and doing little merch sale.

All the signs are pointing that G5 will not be very good. And even if it was the best thing on Earth, if it is on TV, it will fail by default.

One of the other things that Hasbro announced is that toy and product sales have slumped so badly that they're going to follow a tactic that worked very well after the 80s series, they're going to "rest" the brand. This means that there probably won't be a G5 series for at least ten years or until Hasbro decides that it would be profitable for them to resurrect the TV series (providing, of course, that there still is a Hasbro ten years from now. Toy companies have a nasty tendency of going under for virtually no reason. Remember Kenner? In spite of Kenner doing so great with their Star Wars lines they still went under in the 90s. These are just commercial and financial realities we all have to live with.)

*Oh, and the show would be much more adventure-centered. I've heard people claim that the characters we know today as of season 3 of course, because now they're flanderized would probably not be the same or something like that, but this is wrong. If anything, how they grew and their struggles and adventures would be different, but perhaps much more exciting.

Admittedly, it's one thing I'm hoping to see more of in Gen 5 (pretty messed up how they took a lot of what Lauren wanted to but without Lauren), even if my expectations are pretty low.

I also remember hearing that Twilight was supposed to be Celestia's successor. I don't know about a source; it wasn't in the show bible. I've heard that part about the adventure-focus too. Apparently, the Hasbro execs thought the slice-of-life shit would go over better with the target demographic.

have to disagree. Twilight's Kingdom, the most adventure filmed episode, saw 1.4 million viewers on its premiere date over both episodes, per Nielsen. Cutie Map, over both episodes, saw 1 million, give or take. That's pretty good for a kids cartoon. After cutie map, the show started going towards a heavily slice of life direction, and i'm not saying it wasn't their before, but it definitely became the focus. We haven't been getting Tolkien-esque episodes consistently since cutie map, which, worth noting, was the FINAL episode directed by Jayson Thiessen, who was with the show since day one. After cutie map, production teams changed and Denny Lu took over.

Since Cutie Map, the show has seen 1 million viewership, to the most recent recorded ratings for the show, being the season 7 finale, at only 110,000. that's awful. The shift in tone from adventure with SOME slice of life thrown in, to mostly slice of life killed the show.

their stocks are going down, albeit, only slightly, but their last 3 movies that they've made through their own production house, Allspark, all did less than great. Jem and the Holograms bombed, MLP the Movie saw a smaller return than expected, and Bumblebee was the lowest grossing Transformers film ever. Add production costs, deals with China, advertising costs, and the fact that their toy sales are at a decade low, DO NOT be surprised if you see MLP as an IP in different hands in ten years.

toys just aren't as profitable anymore, and these corporate heads don't know how to market their IPs effectively in media. I'm not saying the bronies would be better at it, but a lot of fan projects showed a lot more creative promise than anything Hasbro attempted to do. Look at Legends of Equestria. Is an MMORPG, fan game. Knew a writer for them, she quit years ago, but they tried to sell the assets to Hasbro… Hasbro wasn't interested in MMOs… now today, even after the show's prime, they still see a decent playerbase, and it's free.

Hasbro will not make it out of this. Mattel probably won't either. It's a new age, and kids just aren't as into physical toys past the age of 5.

CNBC said Toys R Us finally closing all of their locations has left toy companies with less of a stake in the market, and it was already an oversaturated market. If Hasbro wants to survive, they need to move away from toys. But they won't, and they've already said they won't. 10 years, Hasbro and Mattel will not exist and IPs like Hot Wheels, Transformers and My Little Pony will be independent brands. Calling it.

You realize that, if she had gotten her way, things would have been very much different? To the point where you can hardly blame solely her for the adventure episodes we do have, many of which have nothing to do with her?

Or perhaps you think adventure is inferior to SoL, in which case, I'm sorry to say, but you have shit taste. Consider that a friend's tale about his adventures over the seas, and all the beasts he's slain and women conquered, is vastly more interesting than how he "felt" at every little thing while traveling in foreign lands and how he "grew" throughout it all. People care about deeds and accomplishments, not the petty dialogues of women and their melodramas. That isn't to say SoL is trash, but inferior to other genres, generally speaking of course. Now—and I'm not sure it was satire or otherwise—, but I have seen an anon belittle another when he claimed that SoL moe was trash (or something to that degree) by telling him he'd grow up (or something to that degree). This appears to be little different from when Beowulf was considered "childish" over a hundred years ago. I don't think I need to explain the folly and arrogance here.

And don't bully mommy, meanie. >:(

TV hasn't failed, it's merely changed. The most successful TV shows nowadays are heavily oriented around long story arcs, rely on viral meme marketing, and are usually released in a "binge watch" format (IE a whole season is dropped on streaming services at once at fans can finish it in a week or less). If Hasbro took a risk for once and made an MLP series that was unironically for adults and released it on netflix, it would probably make a lot of money. It would probably be shit, but we're only talking about commercial success here.

Not for adults exclusively, but if it took a more mature route it would be good. by mature i mean tackling subjects books like the hobbit or LOTR did. Harry Potter levels of maturity even. Kids are growing up faster, its a smart business model. MLPs best bet is to abandon Discovery Family and license the show out to Hulu, Netflix, or some other streaming service. But i don't think Hasbro's going to survive the next decade, their stocks went down again today. those stocks i showed yesterday are in free fall today.

That's not surprising considering how many slice of life shows with lol so randum XDDDDDD shit or light adventure elements there were, and still are, at the time and people got sick of it. MLP IP has a new owner in ten years, I'm holding to that. I kid you not, I knew a guy, some rando, who in 2011, when the show was still fresh and Hasbro didn't see the adult fanbase in full yet, leased the MLP brand name license from Hasbro to make a movie. He never got it off the ground, and Hasbro, when the show got more popular after season 1, distanced themselves from him, but the point still stands…. Hasbro isn't holding onto their IPs very tightly when things start going downhill. Things are going downhill. Give it 5 years and they're gonna start licensing the IP out again, give it 10 and it'll no longer be their IP.
