Gov. Brian Kemp was met with a wave of boos at the Georgia state Republican convention on Saturday.

>>The noise was so prevalent that it was "difficult to make out" Kemp's remarks through his speech, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

A reporter for the news outlet, Maya Prabhu, shared on Twitter a clip of the boos and people holding up signs supporting former Georgia state Rep. Vernon Jones, who is challenging Kemp for the state’s top job next year.

Kemp, as well as Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, both Republicans, became targets of former President Donald Trump, who attacked them for their handling of the 2020 election and resisting his efforts to overturn the results.

Trump lost Georgia and its 16 electoral votes in his defeat to President Joe Biden. Multiple tallies of the votes and an audit of absentee ballot signatures found no widespread fraud and affirmed the results.

Still, some, including Jones, have pushed for another audit similar to the GOP-led Arizona Senate's review in Maricopa County.

>>Kemp did receive applause when he said Georgia was "the first state in the country to reopen" during the coronavirus pandemic.

Trump has not endorsed a candidate in Georgia's gubernatorial race, but just before the Jan. 5 Senate runoffs there, he promised to support a Kemp challenger.

Kemp, a former Arizona secretary of state and legislator, was elected to be governor in 2018. He reminded the audience which high-profile Democrat he defeated that year.

>>“There is only one person who’s beaten Stacey Abrams, and you’re looking at him,” he said.

Trump is planning a campaign-style rally in Georgia, according to a fundraising email reported by 11 Alive. The date and location have yet to be disclosed.

That's got to be the worst feeling in the world to be booed like that. Why bother speaking after that?

Trump's always right because he never pulls his punches.
