The St. Louis couple who made national news for brandishing firearms at protesters who were approaching their house have been charged.
St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner filed charges against Mark and Patricia McCloskey on Monday. They were each charged with one count of unlawful use of a weapon, flourishing, according to KSDK, a local NBC affiliate. The weapons charge is a class D felony, and they face anywhere from one to four years in prison and fines of up to $5,000 if convicted.
The McCloskeys drew their weapons on June 28 outside their home as protesters marched through their gated neighborhood to demand the resignation of St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson. They have defended themselves and claimed that the protesters were threatening to kill them and take over their property.
“That couple had every right to protect their property. They had the ability to do that as private citizens, like everyone else. What they should not go through is a prosecutor attempting to take their constitutional rights away by filing charges against them for protecting their property,” Gov. Mike Parson said days before the charges were filed.
The governor also teased pardoning the couple over the weekend, saying, "I don't think they're going to spend any time in jail."

As much as I sympathize with these two, they did break the law. You can't point a gun at someone just because they're on your property or in your house.
When you own a gun you must learn the laws in each and every state as they all vary.
Learn what "preclusion" is before you buy a gun.
These two will be asked two questions by the prosecutor.
#1. What did you do to de-escalate the situation?
#2. Could you have left your house?

Remember, kids. It's not brandishing till you pull it out of it's holster and point it at someone. Learn your laws and how to fight back legally. In law enforcement, they teach the reactionary gap rule. When it comes to firearms, there is no gap. If anyone points a firearm at you, it's a green light for lethal force. Roughly 20 feet for blunt force or cutting weapons is a green light. And 6 feet for unarmed people. If you use lethal force against an unarmed person who didn't use lethal force first, you can be charged. Although, if faced with a violent mob, this can be considered a disparity of force. 20 vs 1 isn't a fair fight and there's no way you could reasonably defend yourself against 20 people, as an example. In a disparity of force situation, you are allowed to defend yourself, whether they are armed or not. Godspeed, patriots.
