What are some popular media (anime, movies, vidya) portraying monarchic systems in a positive or nuanced light?
Pic related, probably the best example.

Boy, I think that would be a hard find. You would likely have to go back quite a few years. Monarchy is akin to pure evil to the modernist mind.

Downton Abbey.
general aristocrat show, very good.
season 4 pays attention to the monarchy for a bit, a part where they actually forge a letter and steal from a cardshark (who's always portrayed bad) who had incriminating evidence against the Prince. - all ok though cause it's in the name of the monarchy.
Prince rewarded one of the girls with a dance for saving his life.
pretty great show tbh, even if it is a bit girly. I'm not ashamed to say I like it.

I always saw Reinhard as more of a "revolutionary dictator" figure, a space Napoleon rather than a proper aristocrat.

In this age of deracinated elites and mass infantilisation, the collective animated ouevre of the great Yamato people is the last bastion of true art in the world.
Yes, アニメ (animé for you gaijin) comes as a natural past-time for those of us whose noble souls crave for something higher than mere entertainment.

True, but the same could be said about Rudolf.
The dynasty Reinhard established will probably last as long as the Goldenbaum one.

Well there's always Tolkien. I know it's back a few years, but his stuff is still popular, and with good reason.

The Last Kingdom is pretty good. One of the subplots is Alfred the Great uniting England and driving out the heathens.

Lad, the books were better.
And that's not a subplot, that's the over arching story, trust me.

The Vicar of Bray (1937) portrays the Stuart monarchy in a somewhat decent light. It has its iconic scenes and favors the royalists. There are discouraging scenes like there's a scene with King Charles I and a dog. It represents absolutism as servile that way. From a monarchist perspective, it is important to remember the English Civil War is the perfect case to present our libertarian cause.
>libertarians?
Libertarians see monarchy as authoritarian. And authoritarian gets mixed in with anti-democracy and statism. The problem is "monarchy = anti-liberty" while "democracy is liberty" mentality. There is no room for a benevolent authority for the anarchistic kind. They only see tyranny around every corner. There should honestly be a way to make monarchy very palatable for its libertarian cause. It is simply a cognitive dissonance. They cannot accept any authority in an authoritarian world. The real scare for anyone is totalitarianism and the whim to take apart anyone's liberty through popular mandate and propaganda. It goes between the authority of monarchy, promoting civil liberty, and the liberty of the mob to dismantle the individual. The best resolution is monarchy as it counter-balances between the individual and society through its hereditary principles.
<how does liberty and monarchy promote welfare?
Simple. What is honorable allows civil propriety and goodwill to flourish. If we throw as much emphasis around honoring our peers and respecting authority, rather than an anarchistic drive, there is room for compromises. The paternalistic factor of monarchy demands a love that shows responsibility for its subjects and reinforces individual emancipation from the will of the mob.
>English Civil War
Many political treatises revolve around it. People bark about the French Revolution on this board. The English Civil War matters twice as much now that the United States became a superpower. It is important to review history. This film portrays monarchy in a somewhat decent light and takes a realist view on sovereign power. I would recommend it to anyone looking to reinforce this narrative… that monarchs are not villains and sometimes victims.

Great show.

What else can you expect, really? By the end of the series, the remnant of the abolished Empire-in-Exile actually lost the Goldenbaum Emperor because he ran away from home. It shows a stark contrast between the Empire and the Alliance–the Empire is ruled by those with the right to rule, while the Alliance is ruled by powerhungry monsters who care about not their "republican values," but holding on to their authority. This is made evident once it turns out that Yang Wen-li cannot expose a government scandal due to the fact that the Alliance lacks a free press. It's really good for getting people into monarchism, as it basically takes a Bonapartist point of view which many republicans will more easily accept.

Thinking twice on this subject, I am going to recommend Fall of the Eagles. It is an interesting series and sometimes over-the-top with the portrayal of certain monarchs. I still fancy the show and wouldn't say it's half bad.
