Yes, the test is the General Readiness Exam (GRE) and is given by a separate company. Basically we have to pay them to take 2 standardized tests, a general one and a subject specific one (physics, math, chemistry, etc.) depending on what you want to go to grad school for. This is mandatory since most schools require them to even consider your application. The subject test is the hard one. You get ~ 3hours for 100 multiple choice questions, which is abysmal for physics questions if you actually wanted to try and answer all of them. No calculators, no notes, no fucking mechanical pencils, nothing but your brain. Many are calculation based, but some are just facts that you either know or don't and can't derive. The material covers all areas of physics, even subjects that you may not have learned about at all. They also try to trick you with answers by having them be all similar or including ones that factor in common arithmetic mistakes.
The best part? There has been little if any correlation shown between good scores and success in grad school. It is just some shit we have to do on tradition even though it is almost meaningless. I'm a tad salty

Well most questions on these types of tests tend to be pretty easy if you can manage to cut out all the other information and get straight to what type of problem it is. This is certainly a good skill to have, but recalling the exact thing you would need in a test that covers a wide area of subjects in a timed environment like that can be hard. If testing was more realistic where you could have some outside resources and more time, they could make questions much harder and still be fair. Why they don't update testing formats in our modern times is confusing to me.

I had a professor one time who gave take home tests. We could use anything we wanted except for talking with our classmates. They were hard as hell and took 8-10 hours of work to complete, but I learned way more from doing those than preparing for traditional exams. If you write the test properly then you can make questions that aren't simply an answer that can be googled. Plus the possibilities of learning other things when trying to solve a problem are very high. I miss those exams.

I personally don't know, the only thing I have clear now is that I'll going to have classes until the end of Jan (which is an nightmare because in a regular year our classes ends by the beginning of Dec). my lessons are being taken with the current extended year in mind, and after that nothing else comes to my mind.
after that big strike, there it was promises that all the petitions will be meet and even our classmates demanded to all of this being written down in a official document so they can have guarantees.
