its ok but dont complain when you have to read a book twice or trice until you get its real message
(implying you read non-pleb literature)

It's worth it but you have to be selective about what you speed read. I tend to speed read articles and other sources of information that I am not too concerned with, but deep read (and annotate) books that I feel are truly important. It's entirely up to your discretion, but it's never a bad thing to have another skill under your belt.

There are studies showing that speed reading is literally just slightly optimized skimming, and it's nowhere near a replacement for real reading unless you want to make huge sacrifices to your reading comprehension. It's really only worth it if you have to skim a lot of things for your job or whatever.

theres a good book but its old and hard to find.
it basically talks about how to skim thru important information and how to take it in clumps.
speed reading is a meme, though. it only works if youre really captivated by a book

Skim reading is handy for reading a textbook the first time to get the gist of important parts. Then read it normally to retain.

if you are reading something imporant and hard to comprehend, don't even try but otherwise it makes you save a lot of time. If i read a book which was written simply, i use it.

If you do audiobooks for a while you will be faster and faster. I listen as of know with 2-3 times the speed, depending on the subject. Getting +400 of books done every single day for a couple of years know. Although with novels it can spoil the fun a bit. For non-fiction its just awesome.

This is actually based. Have yoy heard the speed that most blind people are comfortable with in their speed readers? 400 to 600 WPM, my dude.

Why would you pay to read faster? Isn't the whole point of reading as a hobby to enjoy it fully? It's like speedwanking? Yes, you can teach yourself to read, but that's easy and not worth paying hard earned money for it. Also, some people are just autistic like that whereas others take their time. I don't really believe you can rewire your brain to think differently if you're just paying somebody for it. Sure, you can get better through practice but if it goes against your grain, it's going to get you forgetting and that's kind of missing the point.

I remember my teachers either reading in diagonal or only the beginning or the end.
Speed reading is dumb, unless you want to seem smart because you read lots of books.

>listen to someone talk
>only pick up keywords since they use a lot of filler words
>any time a concept is interesting, converse internally to fully understand the concept
>playing out situations, dialogue, and finding previous concepts to build upon this one/that this one builds upon
>whoops, it's been 3 minutes since I heard a word they said
Am I eternally damned to never benefiting from audiobooks?

Speed reading can be helpful, but they are not always reasonable. I learned these techniques in college, hoping they would make studying literature easier for me as an English major. However, I often missed important details and nuances in the texts I read, ultimately hindering my understanding and assignment performance. I was fortunate to have discovered https://studymoose.com/literature which provided me with in-depth analysis and summaries of the works I was studying. StudyMoose allowed me to comprehend the material more thoroughly and perform better on assignments than relying on my speed reading abilities. While I still believe that speed reading techniques can benefit specific contexts, it is essential to recognize their limitations and understand when it is more appropriate to focus on in-depth analysis and comprehension.
