I was at the gas station the other day and a homeless guy was on crutches, I watched as he went up to a man who was angry that he would even ask for a handout. He saw me looking his way and worked his way over to me and I had a 20 in my wallet and gave it to him. He was in tears because he was down on his luck. I don't care what situation he was in. I did my part in giving him hope. Not for self righteousness or anything for me to gain. We talked for a bit and went separate ways. Birds of a feather flock together.

I used to ride the city bus to college, and on rare occasions, someone would get on the bus with no leg or no arm. I can't believe they still have to pay a bus fare. Imagine what life would be like if you were missing a limb. At least computer jobs are everywhere now so it's not as bad as it used to be for the disabled if they can land one of those.

A kind gesture anon and not one that some other people would do. It may be worth researching local homeless, housing and financial charities as well as shelters as this would put you in a better position to provide advice if you meet such a person again.

It is worth noting that some people in that position struggle with addiction or and others have mental health issues or learning difficulties that have direct ramifications on the way they manage their money. Such charities would be in a position to provide specialist advice as well as signposting to whatever department or organisation (housing, mental health/counselling, rehabilitation) can help and arranging emergency accommodation.
