The fundamental flaw in this event is that there was no threat. They showed up, made some noise for a few hours, scared some pantshitting libs, and then went home. The despotic government will continue with its plans.
The right, for lack of a better word, isn't good at this kind of thing. Mostly because the right is made up of responsible people with career prospects. If they had showed up and made demands, refusing to leave if they were not met, they would be getting somewhere. But that takes more commitment and more sacrifice. I personally am not ready for that. If all of my online postings and IRC logs are dredged up and attached to my name whenever I apply for a job, then I would be closer to ready.
The right no longer holds the reigns of power, and we need to adjust to that. We can pontificate on the "moral highground" that the left swiftly bypassed, or we can adopt the tactics that lead to victory.
The Yellow Vests ultimately failed, but it goes to show how effective mass action can be. Paris was effectively paralyzed for weeks. Millions in financial damage was inflicted. I suspect though, if the French were an armed people, things would have popped off, rather than fizzled out.

I definitely agree that if the right were to the point of no return that things would have happened differently, but I also feel like no one tried anything because plenty of people were armed. That being said, the fact of the matter is people will take action only when things truly horrible. You throw enough bread and circus (or the prospect of still leading a decent life) and people will cling to that. But once these laws start getting enforced (easier to do since the FBI will no doubt pass any info onto state law enforcement to help with red flags) the people at the rally will be targeted of course you're a threat, you were at a white supremist gun rally, you triple n@zi! and the rope will squeeze around people who just want to shoot their guns. It may not be the spontaneous powder keg of violence most of us expected, but the continuous doubling and tripling down of these gun laws will start getting people more and more riled up.
I'm surprised countries aren't flying in guns by the metric ton to stir up civil conflict more often. Paris would have certainly been a lot more lively with the sound of Kalashnikov filling the air

The only thing that would do it is the state government using outside armed force to enforce the laws. With municipal law enforcement refusing to act, gun ownership is set up to die a slow death in Virginia. Everyone will keep their guns, but new ones won't be sold, and eventually new sheriffs will be installed to do the bidding of the state. My state has a barely enforced assault weapons ban, requiring existing AWs to be registered after sandy vag. A fraction of the estimated number were actually registered. No one got rid of their AR or 10+ round magazines, but there are no new ones, and no one is willing to openly display their contraband. The gun culture here is totally dominated by fudds because young people are too debt ridden and underpaid to deal with jumping through all the hoops required to legally own guns.
