As far as traditional foster slugs go, 12 and 20 bore expand rapidly and violently, many in ballistics gel will do about ~14 inches and hunters who use them on bigger game and shoot poor angles that require deeper penetration have had problems with them. Greek poster is right, foster slug you might get two, even three is pushing it. Three starving 3rd worlders if you shoot them through the chest at the best possible angle and they stand straight in a row. Maybe.

My 10 bore foster slugs might far far better, 1 3/4 ounces of lead instead of the usual 1 ounce in 12. You might get a multi kill then. They have so much momentum that even after they rapidly expand, they might still keep pushing and killing.

Now, let's talk about rounds that might not be as good for one and one killing, but might do better in terms of penetration in tissues. One cheap and easy stupid simple solution is skipping slug and going straight back to ball, a lead ball sized to your bore or choke won't expand as well, but will punch deep and effective. How many men is beyond an honest answer, but that thing might do pretty good in your hypothetical. Some Brenneke loads can do better when they don't expand as much as a foster. One thing beyond my research and understanding is the high end modern smooth slugs made for rifled barrels, some of them are built for longer range shooting and are more like bullets than slugs, heavier construction will help in this scenario. Taofladermaus did some thing with a tungsten slug, now that's something that might pierce your kebabs.

Brenneke even has specialized slugs for that such as the Special Forces Maximum Barrier Penetration slugs. That's exactly why I would like to buy but I can't find them in my country, I guess they are either banned for being too dangerous or it's just that the sellers never paid attention to them (maybe because it's not really meant for hunting).

Idk how balls would compare to those, but not great I guess.

Mossberg 500 is perfectly fine for a first shotgun, right? Sure it can be compared with others but if I were to get one I wouldn't be going wrong with it, would I? Thinking once I get my own place I'd probably go with the M500.

IIRC, 99% of the FN SLP is interchangeable with the Mossberg 930. As a 930 owner, I would suggest looking at the SLP to see if the finish is not complete dogshit. My only complaint about the 930 is the finish.

Which would be a better option for a shotgun that a woman could use and not totally fuck it up? A lightly loaded 12 gauge or a 20 gauge? I've honestly never shot a 20 gauge before, so I don't know how the recoil compares. Don't see why a low-brass 12 gauge with the same number of #4 buckshot pellets as in a 20 gauge wouldn't have roughly the same recoil but I might be missing something – like ammo availability.

Girlfriend was worried about the place we're moving to (it's fine but I want an excuse to buy a new gun) so I told her we'd get a shotgun for when I'm not there. Basically just want a relatively cheap and effective weapon for when I'm not there with my concealed carry. Technically I have a sketch as fuck M1916 Spanish Mauser she could use but I'd rather not. Plus, I just want a shotgun.

A 20 gauge shotgun will do just fine for anyone with a smaller frame. Remember that your own mass does have an effect on how much felt recoil there is.

I'm not a huge fan of low velocity stuff, but I own a 930 so I have my reasons that may not apply to you. You do you, but I'd recommend you take her to a range and rent a 12 and a 20 gauge. Both of you shoot them and decide based off that.

Accidentally hit reply. Depends on the rent cost but I may do that. Honestly might just end up getting a 20 gauge maverick 88 because poorfag in school. Otherwise, I'll just get the 20 gauge and give it to my kid when I have one and get a 12 gauge later.

Just wasn't sure if it would be a better idea to get a 12 gauge for the versatility and then just put a light load in it. Again, I'm a poorfag so I like versatility.

Pretty good gun overall, but it's strange that it has a 7 round tube with such a long barrel. Usually a shotgun with a barrel of that length is meant for hunting and would have a lower capacity.
