Historically it had been application updates, whatever configuration change flavor of the month and shit.
Basically everything automatically updates now though, so I reckon it'd be a non-issue there, but historically I can never leave good enough alone and have to change something, especially if I'm booting linux.

I like it because it's quite literally the anti-macbook. It's thick, has a bunch of ports, including VGA and ethernet. It has an optical drive. And best of all, it has a replaceable battery. And it's also not made by the fucking chinks or in some other 3rd world country. It's, in a way, exactly like an old ThinkPad but with modern specs

I don't mind reasonably chunky, but I don't think I'd go looking for thick laptop for the sake of thick laptop.
I have Ethernet and my laptop is reasonably thin as far as I'm concerned. I don't see much need for VGA at this point, but as I do rip CDs occasionally, that one is fair.
So long as it isn't glued in, a battery is usually replaceable just fine… just not always as straight forward.

Definitely over complicating things, but I seem to have a need to customize shit beyond necessary when it comes to computing. It just became tedious to maintain across multiple devices.
I can't see what I do being a good reason for most people to invest money into objectively worse hardware, but it was worth it for me.

And for the battery… I mean it in the sense that you can easily remove it without any tools or opening up the laptop, in the span of half a second. And then put a fresh battery in and get back to work. Seems extremely useful
