No.4415 [Last50 Posts]
Here is the thread where we can discuss the future now that we made it through the first Summer and Winter cycle. Feel free to sticky this Cotton/Saviour if you're still here.
Future teams can be discussed here and suggestions. My first suggestion, tell the Brit to stop breathing into his damn mic.

You definitely need new commentators
Also I don't know who had the bright idea to stick those squares with pictures instead of actual modded players, but they're fucking idiots and it should be fixed. Especially for /a/. Every single one of our players was a damn box. It looked much better before.
Also, did you guys lose every good commentator and manager because /sp/ left or something?
Also honestly, some of the teams on were one time things that are likely going to die.

shilling for the next cup if it happens definitely needs to be better, because this year it was ineffective as shit on most boards which is at least part of how a ~300 average viewer count became ~40 average in seven months

It doesn't help that we lost /sp/
I'm convinced that's the reason. /sp/'s shilling likely got people interested.

well that would also help but i mean anything is preferable to having these threads go up or get bumped often times with only an hour or so to spare and no warning in advance for mods and crew
that's what has happened on a lot of days during this cup and the end result is almost nobody shows because by the time they know what's happening things are either halfway over or completely over

You guys should get in touch with the BOs of the major boards, especially /pol/ and /v/, and get them to sticky threads as it's happening.
Although, /v/'s thread was stickied and it didn't do much. Honestly the cup just kind of sucked.
The first had a kind of heart, even if it was flimsy. This one was just boring.

Yeah sure.
Anyway, a suggestion is that next time you only start advertizing heavily after the group stages.
The cup going for so long might have been part of why people lost interest. If you just show the final rounds when shit gets to the final stages, maybe it'll improve viewership/hype.

Honestly, are there that many teams to make from scratch? Besides fixing the current teams (seriously, those boxes for faces look so dumb), there can't be that many teams to enter.

I think before any new teams ever get added, we need to fix the current teams. Make sure all correct kits are in, make sure anthems and goal horns are correct. Check with any boards if these are the teams they want, see if they still want to participate etc.
I also think we need to institute a cut-off for the size of a board to get a team if they want in/we're scouting for one.

To add to this, after teams are squared up, we really need to decide on advertising and who will commentate. I cannot stress enough the brit needs to stop breathing into his mic, both need to sound excited, and they need to call the fucking game instead of bitching about which boards are playing. I wish Cotton could still commentate because he really tried when doing it. Try to cut down on errors in game like forgetting songs and entrances.
Any other things I missed about commentary and in game stuff? I heard some people complaining about fragmenting streams too.

I don't really mind lag in stream. I mean that's the one thing that, while it should strive to be avoided, it's not completely the commentator's fault.
Sounding like shit though, yeah, that's their fault.
My suggesting is three commentators. A main one that should ALWAYS be on unless it's unavoidable, a second one that should be the divegrass expert, and then an extra one that should be familiar with the boards that are playing.

in other, better news in regards to the infinity cup's future i'm in the process of getting a new, better place for the wiki up and running in the next few days which will hopefully give any future infinity cups a snug and secure base of information that doesn't rely on fucking wikia, of all places
i've already made a bit of progress in the infobox front, and we now have working hyperlinks to board pages and properly named board pages that don't require the {{DISPLAYTITLE:/board/}} workaround that i had to start using on the wikia due to the spam filter
also new are images of the kits, which i'm in the process of handmaking (and some of which you can see at >>4397 in the WIKIA thread), which is nice.
hopefully, i'll have something ready to at least in part replace the wikia up by the end of the month, but i'm not going to make any promises on that until i have a bit more than just infoboxes, templates, and files

currently the list of logos i do not have are /v/'s, /baphomet/'s, and /cow/, which i only don't have because they aren't on the current wiki, somehow
if someone has those they should definitely upload them to the wiki when they get a chance, because the awkward "N/A" file that has to go in place of their icons is a bit embarrassing tbh

beyond that though, most things are covered. new wiki will have actual separate icon images instead of duplicates for board_logo.png and board_icon.png, the board infobox is as i noted before fixed up and has some of the extra parameters that it does on >implyingrigged now, kits are slow but steady, and of course we'll have the football box thing that i managed to implement for the Winter Cup matches starting in the round of 16
the main issues i can see in regards to updating the wiki come with the goalhorns and stuff, which i have absolutely no clue about beyond just a few and with all the games played on december 25th, january 16th and january 17th, since i don't know which of the commentators were recording those dates. i'm not even sure anybody actually recorded those, but i'm hoping someone did

I know /cow/'s was basically sent in under the radar and the guy who put the team together didn't really post stuff anywhere, so for that see if we can get one of the guys to pull it from the game, I think the same situation happened with /baphomet/ so the same would have to be done. I can't believe I don't have /v/'s even though they were one of the first teams ever made.
>>4453
What teams are you having trouble with on music, there are some in the team threads here and I'm sure I remember for a lot of teams what was what.

>>4458
Will you be including home and away kits for teams that made two or just one or the other? The only issue I see there is the /fit/ kit is wrong, they were supposed to have the muscle kit but for some reason it was never explained why it never got in.
All in all this is shaping up to be fantastic. I was thinking of one more thing in the future, will we poll/ask teams if they want to ever change music for anthem/horns and uniforms? I know if we do another this summer there was talks of changing the rosters up and seeing if formations/positions wanted to be changed.

eventually, home and away or home and goalkeeper kit, but for now i'm aiming simply to have at least one kit represented for each team

ended up having to go somewhere that isn't exactly a great place to be accessing 8ch, so sorry about the delay in this
i didn't get quite what i wanted to done today, but as of right now we have seven pages, "/a/ • /bane/ • /gamergate/ • /leftypol/ • /sp/ • /tv/ • Summer 2015 Infinity Cup"
http://infinitycup.shoutwiki.com/wiki/Main_Page
since by the time most people read this i'll already be asleep, here's basically what is and is not done and how to do certain shit to help out
i have all the logos i have covered, and all the icons covered, so those don't need to be uploaded although they may not all be up yet. i've tried to get as accurate statistics and captaincies as possible for the pages we do have, so for those pages most of what needs to be fixed is in the goal scorer and assister departments, although double checking for captains is a good idea
all of the kits from >>4458 are uploaded, and they are the only ones i currently have done, so if you make an article for a board which does not have one yet, please copy the template on the /leftypol/ article. if the board you are making does have a kit, just copy the /gamergate/ article's template or something and replace the "gamergate" part of "|kithome= gamergate_firstkit.png" with the board you are making
PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF FUCK
categorize articles if you make them and images if you upload them, just so shit doesn't get lost. we only have a few categories period (all of which can be found at Category:Categories) and this is a bit of a problem on the wikia that i want to nip in the bud so that way later on it doesn't have to be fixed
other than that, i think we're good. i still haven't gotten all the templates i wanted, and our main page looks like shit since it's the default template, but otherwise i think this is the beginning of something pretty good, and hopefully by the time icup III happens, we'll have a central place of information

Couple of suggestions, ordered by importance
1. Make a couple of test streams as a trial for the commentators. I can't tell how fucking boring the whole thing was. Heck I was on last year and even with all the incoherent babbling and unprofessional stuttering, it was way more hype than this year's.
2. Improve the jerseys. This could easily be done with two steps: call for board owners and board dwellers to create them themselves, or add a logo and an emblem to the shirts yourselves. Remember, soccer is a sport where sponsors have a huge fucking impact on how the teams look like.
3. Please, for the love of god, don't make the custom stadiums so fucking ugly. Either make slight alterations to them or don't do anything at all. The Star Wars stadium was a fucking eyesore. Contrary to your Niggerball and Handegg sports, Divegrass has much more standardized looking field, mostly because it's still spics and europeans who main the game.
4. Since it seems that most boards aren't interested in making the ads, you could ask Hotwheels if he'd be interested in making an offer to ad-paying people to put their own banners inside the stadiums themselves. It's probably not gonna fly, but it hurts to see so many bland ads ingame.
5. Faces aren't really important, but it would really, really help if you avoided putting cardboard boxes over players and tried either using the in-game editor to make something that has a very distant resemblance to the character, or you actually followed those 4chancup tutorials on how to make custom heads.
6. On that note, when writing the wiki, please consider inserting all the rosters with a small, humorous description of the player. If it has a custom face, he should definitely be featured next to the paragraph. Adds to the world-building aspect of the cup.
7. Finally, and this is more of a preference of mine, please, consider adding more of the "stylish move" cards to the game, such as the special feints. They don't really do much in terms of gameplay aside from a couple of cases, but they provide the much needed spectacle. Adding an extra two cards delegated to that and only that would make the matches a bit more entertaining.
8. Add a couple of unknown boards to the list of teams, just as a way to advertise them. Any board that has at least ten-ish active users may really use the extra publicity. On that note, try and advertise the match on other venues other than 8ch.

i think a good metric of commentary would be the first infinity cup's /gamergate/-/sp/ game that went to penalties

A lot of that mixes in with the suggestions I made as well to improve the experience for everyone, especially finding good commentators. However, a lot of those uniforms were made by those board users, and I guess a lot didn't like the idea of throwing a sponsor on them, besides /hebe/ and /r9k/. I imagine this could mix in with the suggestion of polling boards on if they want to change anything for the next one. The custom stadiums I agree could be touched up a bit, but In some cases like /bane/ and /starwars/, they were made like that cause it's memeball. More board specific ads would be nice, however I would hope they would be more in line with the current ones, not trying to be too serious etc. I did hear some people on /a/ hating the boxheads so I think it would be wise to go back to just making players look like their inspirations, even more for the flat heads. As for other venues of advertising the matches, what would you suggest?
On the topic of smaller boards joining, I agree if they're active and willing to commit then sure. However, there should be a cutoff for minimum activity/users. Also should boards have their own culture and topic when being considered? /wx/ is one of the last few larger boards without a team mainly because they're just an image dump board with no concrete culture, for example.
I propose another suggestion, the current list of boards with teams has two who seem to have left the site. These two boards are /sp/ & /cyber/, /sp/ went to 76chan and /cyber/ made their own thing and went there/also lainchan. Now only one team has been removed under similar circumstances and that was /intl/. Should we do what we did before and consider removing /cyber/ & /sp/? I mean no ill will towards anyone of those boards, just wondering.

Otherwise, the kit is fucking fantastic, this isn't the first time you make one, is it?

Agreed, it was one of the best matches, professionality can be cast aside if it gives room for hype and funtimes
>>4482
>and I guess a lot didn't like the idea of throwing a sponsor on them
Even catchphrases or fake sponsors would do. Thing is, I feel that most kits clash with each other, but not in the fun way they should.
> but In some cases like /bane/ and /starwars/, they were made like that cause it's memeball
sure, but if the spectators can't understand what's going on, it's hardly worth keeping. Just alter the stadiums so that they remain visibly green or at least make it still look like it has grass on it.
>As for other venues of advertising the matches, what would you suggest?
Going around smaller boards to stir up interest could be one. Otherwise, and this is if and only if the quality level increases, bringing people over from other (non cuck) chans in. Even if they don't switch to our boards, it'd still be nice having more people watching the matches.
>On the topic of smaller boards joining, I agree if they're active and willing to commit then sure. However, there should be a cutoff for minimum activity/users.
I was thinking about these requirements:
- Board has to have at least 10k posts on it, regardless of current active users
- Board Owner must be involved in it, regardless of whether he just stickies the thread or commits to even coach the game
- Board must be created at least x months prior to the match (so as to avoid having shitposters doctoring their numbers to achieve a spot)
- Smaller boards must go through an initial, minor circuit league tournament, not linked to the bigger boards, with only the ones with the most points and goal difference being picked (this is more of a way of testing our commentators before the big league matches come, as well as striking some easy publicity with smaller boards without feeling the pressure of fucking up)
And oh, yes, boards must be relevant on 8ch rather than boards-in-exile. But I thought that was an obvious one.

I assumed /icup/ would have been the unfair team to battle at the end of the cup, so we could put a lot of weird unrelated things in it
>I mean it was a fucking running this one but in theory its a great idea. We just need enough anons contributing.
One way I thought about speeding up the minor tourney process was, let's make the smaller boards have teams with default faces and a very simplistic jersey (kind of how we had them in the first cup for most teams), just to give them enough time to finalize shit for the actual tourney.

Awesome. Could you make it so the starting 11 and the subs are separated. I think the one on the other wikia (in terms of information not so much aesthetic appearance) is great. That way anons can know which players are not doing so good and which ones are when its time to do team updates.
I for one have seen baffling changes in this cup like /pone/ having 4 keepers and talking away their top striker and /v/ moving their top striker to a defensive position.

alright, templates for the squad rosters is up
this is what it looks like:
{{sq start}}
{{sq player |no=1 |pos=GK |name=/a/non }}
{{sq player |no=2 |pos=CB |name=/co/mrade}}
{{sq player |no=3 |pos=RWF |name=/sp/artan |other=Captain}}
{{sq mid}}
{{sq player |no=20 |pos=CMF |name=/intl/-tier}}
{{sq player |no=26 |pos=DMF |name=Brendan Fraser}}
{{sq player |no=31 |pos=RMF |name=Wade Davis}}
{{sq end}}
for gold, silver, and bronze players, just add "gold", "silver", or "bronze" before "player," so for example {{sq gold player |no=31 |pos=RMF |name=Wade Davis}} would make Wade Davis a gold player
"No=" is obviously player number, and "Pos=" is obviously position. if you can't remember the shorthand for it, the full list of parameters is at Template:Sq start under "Parameters"
name is obvious. the "Other" parameter is for defining things like who the captain of the team is.
{{sq mid}} is very important, since it breaks the starting XI from the bench warmers on the team roster. don't forget that parameter or you'll fuck the table up and i think it will just be one big run on

pretty much. I mean once anons started modifying stadiums me and some anons called it. As a football fan most stadiums (specifically pone/a) are a complete eyesore and take you away from the action. However, as a memeball tournament this kind of shit is fine but there should at least be some rules so some asshole doesn't just make an un-watchable mess.
/b/s is good because it still holds characteristics of memeball but isn't over the top. Too bad we didn't add anything on the sky-box. A looming HW would've been perfect.

Nah, I was thinking more along the lines of:
>Top 10 boards (those with the largest userbase and thus the most interest) get a free pass
>Another 12 "minor" boards (that still have the rules that I mentioned earlier in the thread) have to compete in small, 4-teams minileagues, with the two winners of each becoming the next pick (or 4 leagues of 3 teams each whatever floats your boat)
Alternatively, if we want to get it to 32, let's have the top 20 already in the game and the remaining 12 be decided with the aforementioned method.

That sounds kind of cool actually. Of course this is discounting new teams that might be made, however any new teams that get made could face off against the smallest boards or boards with the worst W/L records in the bottom to battle it out for a spot in that 12 or whatever is the number needed to get half the amount of teams we'll have by then in the true cup.

How about using the performances from the previous cup? The teams that got through the group stages last cup get a free pass and the teams which didn't would have to compete in a preliminary stage along with the new teams. So 16 teams would automatically qualify, and the preliminary stages can be adjusted accordingly.

assuming we use any of these methods, the teams you end up with are pretty interesting
method 1: top ten would be /v/, /pol/, /furry/, /tech/, /co/, /leftypol/, /k/, /tv/, /a/, /b/, and the rest would be minor boards
method 2: top 20 should be this, provided i didn't fuck it up
/k/ (9pts, +6GD)
/n/ (7pts, +4)
/fit/ (7pts, +2)
/leftypol/ (6pts, +6)
/hebe/ (6pts, +5)
/kind/ (6pts, +4)
/tv/ (6pts, +3)
/senran/ (6pts, +2)
/a/ (6pts, +1)
/furry/ (6pts, 0)
/v/ (5pts, +1)
/just/ (5pts, +1)
/starwars/ (4pts, +5)
/bane/ (4pts, +2)
/tech/ (4pts, +1)
/argentina/ (4pts, -1)
/sp/ (4pts, -2)
/b/ (4pts, -2)
/cow/ (3pts, -1)
/cuteboys/ (3pts, -2) – wins out because of goals for at 8

I like the idea of performance being a factor, but I also don't want to miss out on the most popular boards giving us free views. Like, imagine that something like /islam/ getting the most victories over any other major board. Sure, it might give them some free publicity and maybe get more people to join that board, but at the same time, knowing that their team won't be in, places like /co/ could very much avoid watching the cup at all. Worse yet, imagine that a minor board becomes a main competitor all throughout more than one cup, while one of the big boards just sits there in relegation forever because their managers a shit.
The 4CC works because they have so many boards and so many people administering them that they can have four tournaments a year and that each team is guaranteed to play a minimum of two of them. If we went for performance, /b/ would never ever compete in the actual tournaments, just boring scrimmages.
If we ever get to the point where even minor boards can boast over 25K posts, then we might possibly go for the stats route. Otherwise, let's just stick to popularity.

You have even more that have crossed the 20K mark that could be considered, like /x/.

This is basically the main reason why performance based event setting is shitty in this situation because its not inclusive to all the teams and won't get max number of anons around enjoying their teams playing, so for that I'm against a promotion/relegation style event layout because it complicates things.
The # of teams now is appropriate enough for 8chans current size (especially with the /just/-tier fuckups and lost users) so if anything Cup events can still be decided based on last event placing and that would decide your pot placement and the tiers of teams you'd likely end up playing.

I think even before when next was announced as being over, the gg boards were already declined because of the never ending shitshow it became, /b/ is from endless spam/board flooding & people who only browse /b/ thinking the site is dead and wanted others to come with them. /v/ is about the same, over 3000 but has lost some. Things have started to turn around, on some much smaller boards since posting is a bit fixed they've gone up. Hell, /kind/ & /cyber/ both re-entered the top 50 and are going much better than before the Winter tournament.
I really think boards that missed out should be considered, /m/ has gone up a little more in activity for example, /x/ too. At the same time boards that are struggling hard like /starwars/ (for example) should be considered for removal is they are under certain activity for a time period.
/sp/ seems to have left again and are on 76 for good I guess and I was wondering what to do with them, should they be removed?

Should things just be postponed until we know for sure if there is going to be another one of these?

I've been updating it bit by bit, currently doing starwars. Is there anyway we can get the tables to have custom sorting? Ie - person clicks on matches played and the table changes from highest to lowest. Or one chooses goals scored and same thing happens?

Speaking of starwars, it never did get in but their official uniform was that stormtrooper kit that's in their team thread. I know /tg/'s got used for two games, the purple robe with the white wings on their team logo being home kit and the white robe with the black wings on the team logo being the away kit.
You're doing good on starwar's page.

Feel free to help out if you want to, I uploaded all the match info, but I don't remeber where I linked it. I guess I can upload it again if you don't find it. There are some matches missed here and there, though it contains about 90% of matches. The matches that weren't can be found by looking over the replays and the best players section which should also be uploaded.

most likely, i'd just have to figure out how to put the markup for it in the table. i've got a ridiculous number of days off this month for hilarious reasons so i'll see what i can do about that one

I mean it works on the match history table. Those have custom sorting depending on which table you click.

Yup thats the one. Forgot I also put the ICUP files in there just in case. Better that way I guess.
