I collaborate with two people on Patreon but none of them make games. One thing I think everyone should see is the guy's goal.
If the guy writes: "my goal is $1500 to dedicate myself 3 hours a day to it" and the guy does something like $1000, I think helping him can be beneficial.
But if the guy says that he needs $30k to stream naked as Dark Cookie says, or if the guy asks $7k to make animated scenes for a game that he steals Honey Select pre-made animations like the guy which does Mythic Manor, obviously donating money will only disrupt the progress of the project. Because these guys are obviously acting in bad faith.

When it comes to all media I only pay if I think I'll get my money's worth. In theory I have no problem paying $60 for a porn game if I felt it was worthy of that price. I would never do a pateron because I simply don't believe most will ever come out and if they do they probably won't be worth the price of months of sub fees.

If a creator is sincere and say, "I need $ 1500 to work 4h a day in the game," then I find it reasonable to try to help the guy. Patreon for game development is bad business practice, the more money these dev's get the less motivated they become to finish their games.
