It was genuinely good until Rance X destroyed the four main heroines. The worst parts were pushing for Aster to kill the big bad, so they were graphic and disgusting. I'm not a fan of that, but I enjoyed the fun parts while I was blissfully unaware of Rance X, and I enjoyed the characters. Riche was best girl.
Now I regret completing this game. This should be a lesson on how game canon affects company performance and public opinion.

I'm halfway through the last chapter right now and I'll just say outright that it's an okay game, with some good RPG design (the skill allocation mechanic is similar to the one used in D:OS2 and something that more RPGs should adopt). The dialogue is pretty okay as well, even though the story is pretty damn bland and uninspired. The setting on the other hand is good; it's compact, simple, unique, and just works really well in the context of the story and the game.
The big downside is the H portion. It's just downright BORING. The story H scenes are either a.) rape, b.) vanilla as fuck or c.) gore and rape. You better have a really weird set of fetishes or most CGs are going to be bland or repulsive. There's like 1 tentacle CG, 1 anal CG, several rape/guro CGs, 1 or 2 BJs, 1 lesbian pegging, a bunch of other 1-CG fetishes, and the rest is vanilla. Yes I counted BJs as non-vanilla because of how incredibly vanilla the rest is. Sometimes interesting things happen to the girls, but there are no event chains. If you get 1 CG with exhibition, that's all there is (falling into the typical trap of most VNs trying to be a jack of all jack-offs but master of none).
Worst of all the girls don't grow sexually at all, they just always stay sexually boring. There's no trainer aspect. The H events you unlock are just flashbacks to things that already happened between you and your wives. The wives each have 1 alternative outfit, but it doesn't change anything other than their dialogue cutouts. They're not even aware of their alternative outfit because of magic handwaving. There's also items that strip the girls down to their underwear or fully naked, but same principle, they're not aware (and neither is anyone else, shutting down that fetish too). There's no other sexual accessories you can acquire or buy.
At this point I just usually skip the H scenes I encounter. I only play the game because I like the setting. I rewatch the H scenes that look interesting later for a fap. The sidequest CGs are universally better than the main wives' CGs.
tl;dr: good albeit simple RPG design, interesting setting, generic story, boring H (by /htg/ standards).

Yeah it totally works as a game for vanilla tastes, which is why the addition of rape, cucking, and gore makes it all the more puzzling. There's a lot of fetishes which are a bit more exotic, so why go for the few which are as non-vanilla as it gets? I'm honestly surprised there's no scat in here (or maybe I just haven't encountered it yet). The setting in ``particular`` seems perfect for "pure maidens". It just doesn't make any sense.
It's mostly the lack of event chains that really irked me. Most CGs felt like I won some kind of bonus card with a nice graphic and a small scene, completely detached from the story.
