Aside from the obvious comedy entry or two via the Rabid Puppies it's merely a coincidence that Tor Books has so many nominations yes it is. not a clique no

'Best Dramatic Presentation - Long Form' = Best Film - and . . . Ghostbusters?

Traditional book publishing - in the US controlled by the 'Big 5' - which aside from Baen Books are basically sjw converged, has been taking a hit from the ebook market, especially self-published/indie books.

Not so says the Grauniad - 'Everything's fine la-la-la', 'Pfft! That Kindle is sooo last week', etc . . .

Reposting this from other SP/Dragons bread:

In their ongoing bid to put themselves out of business whilst simultaneously boosting indie sales, traditional book publishers have started hiring 'sensitivity readers' to edit books before going to print. These are not proofreaders or copy editors looking for punctuation or grammatical errors etc, these are super-special snowflakes looking for content that might be offensive.

Heat Street - http://archive.is/cu8cS

Literary Hub - http://archive.is/bR6MM

Not sure if the books will then feature 'Sensitively Edited' on the cover - a sure sign not to buy if they do. Once again it's just publishers bowing to socjus pressure. Be wary of this shit seeping into comics, game dev, etc. Btw, ask a snowflake and they'll say it's not censorship.

The sjw conVerged article has the usual 'diversity', 'women', 'Puppies bad', etc and has the full list of noms/winners -

https://archive.is/3RfL0

One thing you may notice is that you've probably never heard of most (if not all) of them - and you will likely never hear of most of them again, such is the current way of the Hugos.

Compared to 2015/16 this year's Hugos have been more low-key - both Puppies groups basically said 'forget it' for the awards show itself - leaving the socjus clique to their own circlejerk. As a result, far fewer outrage headlines for the clickbait media. With nothing to shout about - cue damage control - bury the story, move along.

Heard a rumour that YouTube videos covering the Hugo awards live had blocked the comment sections. Would like if someone else can confirm this, but it wouldn't be a surprise.

Definately worth a visit I'd say - and attracts a big crowd.

But hold your horses - shenanigans are afoot:

Last year was the first year for the Dragon Awards - the second Awards have yet to take place and things have already taken a turn.

As mentioned here >>331025 the idea of authors withdrawing their nominations had cropped up. Another author, Alison Littlewood, also wanted to withdraw, the reason being that her book had been nominated by a member of the Rabid Puppies.

Originally, the Dragon Awards refused withdrawal:

Locus mag - refusal of Scalzi + Littlewood - https://archive.is/tTSc9

Littlewood's blog - https://archive.is/LoqRI

Yeh about that:

Now the Dragon Awards have caved - allowing Littlewood - and also by request NK Jemisin - to have their books removed from the Awards ballot.

or:

https://archive.is/atPMq

>And then, over the last couple of days, we got an earful from our fans and others.

>we got an earful from our fans and others.

>and others.

Who could that be I wonder? :)

As stated in the link, voting for the Awards has been extended to accomodate this, and also:

>After this year’s awards . . . we’re going to take a hard look at the way we do things at the Dragon Awards.

Dragoncon states that the Awards are about, and for, the fans:

>It’s a fan’s choice award, plain and simple.

>We have strong faith in the integrity of the Dragon Awards ballot because it was created by fans,

That the Awards are in recognition of work done by the authors and other content creators, it is not about them - the fans come first.

https://madgeniusclub.com/2017/08/23/that-which-divides-by-christopher-nuttall/

or:

http://archive.is/AA4YQ

Cons have clearly been a target for socjus - there's some threads on this board - but the result seems to fall into the same pattern each time - sjs insert themselves/take over a con, id politics gets pushed to the fore, fans get turned off, con loses popularity. Cons taking this route see the fan numbers attending drop off, and the money stream dries up. Fans go to cons for the love of the genre, not forced politics.

Quote in pic is from the top of the post - which in the text links to this write up from 2015 by Jay Maynard, commenting on sjs banging their political drum in the open source community. Boy, they do get around

Update follwing this post >>330964 from Lela Buis blog regarding the Dragon Awards.

http://archive.is/4ocib

The post itself isn't much - but again it's in the comments - eg: first one.

>The diversity issue only matters if you consider the Dragon to be a real award. If you think of it as a fake award meant to boost the sales of books by white supremacists

So Dragons not a 'real award' - and then to-and-fro in the rest of the comments = Dragons bad, Hugos clean + not corruptable, and 'alternative facts' are now a thing.

Author and original Sad Puppy, Larry Correia, was recectly invited as one of the Guests of Honor [GoH] at Origins Game Fair - a tg/game-con - only to then be disinvited after some snowflake had a hissy fit:

http://monsterhunternation.com/2014/08/19/no-tor-com-gencon-isnt-racist-a-fisking/

That was 4 years ago.

Also thrown into the mix, accusation's of Correia being a 'rape-apologist' - tenuously drawn from another post - despite him spending years as a weapons instructor teaching women self-defence:

Usual backslapping by the usual socjus crowd.

Vox article hails the win as 'a giant rejection of right-wing gatekeeping' in SciFi/Fantasy' :

Right-wingers gatekeeping SciFi/Fantasy - well that's fantasy I guess.

Also gamedrops - GG:

>the unfortunate 2014 movement that essentially underpinned the rise of the alt-right

>codified harassment campaigns against women and people of color for years

>helped give rise to the ideological polarization of the internet.

Also rewriting history by crediting GG with Larry Corriea's creation of 'a set of disruptive collectives known as the Sad Puppies' - originally formed in 2013.
