Traditional book publishing - in the US controlled by the 'Big 5' - which aside from Baen Books are basically sjw converged, has been taking a hit from the ebook market, especially self-published/indie books.

Things then took a turn when, among others, Sad Puppy founder Larry Correia chimed in on the fb thread.

Long story short -it ended up with Mike Glyer, who runs File 770 - and who has an astonishing 55 Hugo nominations nothing fishy about that - move along - taking a dig at Correia by claiming File 770 is more popular than Monster Hunter Nation (Correia's site).

In their ongoing bid to put themselves out of business whilst simultaneously boosting indie sales, traditional book publishers have started hiring 'sensitivity readers' to edit books before going to print. These are not proofreaders or copy editors looking for punctuation or grammatical errors etc, these are super-special snowflakes looking for content that might be offensive.

Not sure if the books will then feature 'Sensitively Edited' on the cover - a sure sign not to buy if they do. Once again it's just publishers bowing to socjus pressure. Be wary of this shit seeping into comics, game dev, etc. Btw, ask a snowflake and they'll say it's not censorship.

One thing you may notice is that you've probably never heard of most (if not all) of them - and you will likely never hear of most of them again, such is the current way of the Hugos.

Compared to 2015/16 this year's Hugos have been more low-key - both Puppies groups basically said 'forget it' for the awards show itself - leaving the socjus clique to their own circlejerk. As a result, far fewer outrage headlines for the clickbait media. With nothing to shout about - cue damage control - bury the story, move along.

Heard a rumour that YouTube videos covering the Hugo awards live had blocked the comment sections. Would like if someone else can confirm this, but it wouldn't be a surprise.

Last year was the first year for the Dragon Awards - the second Awards have yet to take place and things have already taken a turn.

As mentioned here >>331025 the idea of authors withdrawing their nominations had cropped up. Another author, Alison Littlewood, also wanted to withdraw, the reason being that her book had been nominated by a member of the Rabid Puppies.

Cons have clearly been a target for socjus - there's some threads on this board - but the result seems to fall into the same pattern each time - sjs insert themselves/take over a con, id politics gets pushed to the fore, fans get turned off, con loses popularity. Cons taking this route see the fan numbers attending drop off, and the money stream dries up. Fans go to cons for the love of the genre, not forced politics.

In related book news - bookstore Barnes & Noble have decided to fire pretty much all it's full time staff.

It's an effort to 'save costs' - replacing experienced staff with minimum wagers.

Guess it will work out fine and dandy for Amazon
