It is. I wish they still made proper motherboards like that with no ugly gaymen shit.

<6k$
<8cores and a gpu that can't even come close to 980 ti levels of performance
<Samsung SSD(optional, recommended)
In the meanwhile in x86 world you can get 64cores AMD at that price, less if you cheap out on the graphics card. Also i don't need to mention it has 0 compatibility with compiled x86 software and the exact cpu speeds aren't mentioned
And the cpus they sell don't even do 5ghz, 3.8ghz is hopelessly outdated at 500$ for 8 cores.

Are you comparing POWER and X86 by clockspeed? That's retarded.

The entire point of buying POWER is to avoid the x86 botnet, you doublenigger. Some would say that alone justifies the cost.

Here's the latest on POWER9: The FSF has finally fucking started certifying it!

This makes TALOS II the newest hardware that's RYF.

The chip's speed is its main selling point, Wikipedia states that IBM sells 5ghz+ POWER9 chips.
What part of the above do you have trouble understanding? It's normal to be disappointed if they only sell chips that have 2008 overclocked xeon clock speeds.
They could've also put a x86 translation layer, like some ARM netbooks have.(i don't know if it's implemented in software or hardware)
There's also zero indication of an ability to overclock.

You realize running empty hzs for the sake of being faster clockspeed wise is miningless while discussing PPC vs x86.
Here, have some graphs faggot, those should be still relevant for x86 vs PPC.

newer and better evidence is needed, specifically :
<single core vs multi
<single core multithread x86 vs ppc
<large datasets vs small(memory transfers, daily reminder that about 33% of 32 bit x86 instructions are just MOVs)
<with and without SIMD extensions(with all permutations of the above)
And if a 3.8Ghz quad core chip has the cost of a 9900kys then i don't know how much the hexa core 5ghz ppc equivalent will.
Also they're kind of nullifying their chances of piercing the PC market by not being compatible with ARM and (more importantly) x86 software.

You're fooling yourself, security and speed aren't mutually exclusive, also you can't just put 4 gpus and boom your cpu bound applications and games are automatically running 400% faster, it requires special snowflake programming libraries and other nigger shit no one wants to learn.

Eh? Maybe a little over $3000...with a binned cpu.

Isn't the CPU implementation still a blackbox? The only thing that's open is the firmware code and the licensing, from what I've read. Still, I would totally spring for one of these Talos II workstations if I didn't have the need to run x86 VMs.

it's low end, not realistic considering the price of an IBM POWER motherboard and CPU bundle costs as much as a full system targeted at the midend or gamer market.

you don't buy libre system like that to play vidya on it. that platform is absolutely fine for most people + it costs less than a used thinkpad from what i've seen though it is much more rare.
