DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations) are audio engineering software used to compose sounds or music.

Cakewalk Bandlab: https://www.bandlab.com/products/cakewalk

Qtractor (Linux): https://qtractor.sourceforge.io/

PixelTone/Pxtone (Chiptune DAW; made by cave story dev); different from most DAWS, but you'll figure out how to navigate around it by using it. You basically pick voices/instruments and use them in the unit section

https://studiopixel.jp/pxtone/index.html

Guide is here if it's too complicated (made by rakugaki-otoko @ DA):

Bosca Ceoil (chiptune DAW):

Premium DAWs:

Fl Studio ($99 for full version and $130 for plugins) UI is easy to learn without guides

REAPER ($60) best one: small filesize, optimized, available for all platforms, cheap, a lot of resources/guides

Ableton great but expensive

Cubase
