The conservative wing of the Supreme Court reportedly declined to take up a case dealing with Second Amendment rights after Chief Justice John Roberts indicated that he would vote with the court’s liberal justices.
In June, the justices rejected petitions from 10 challenges relating to state restrictions on firearms after Roberts signaled he would not vote with them,depriving the court’s conservatives of the fifth vote needed to overturn gun regulations.
In December, the Court heard a challenge to a New York City handgun regulation but ultimately determined that the challenge was made irrelevant when the New York City law involved was altered. The case revolved around whether licensed handgun owners may take a locked and unloaded handgun to locations outside the city, such as second homes or upstate firing ranges. The justices returned the relevant provisions of the challenge back to a lower court.
The four most reliably conservative justices were not confident that they would get a fifth vote from Roberts on the case or similar cases addressing the Second Amendment, according to unidentified sources.

It reminds me of something someone once said many years ago, and I have taken an occasion to say it a time or two myself!
You see, I lived down the street from the State Chess Champion, who had, at that time, won twelve years in a row. He was a good guy, and smart as shit, and, of course, he liked to play chess. So did I. So we became friends, and played chess pretty much every day. Of course he wiped the board with me most times, but I won at least three or four games a week, and my room mate, who worked a different shift than me, happened to see me beat him once and thought he would like to have a go! Well, my room mate was not a bad chess player himself, but had quite an ego (kinda reminded me of a man that many on the left have an abnormal obession with, or Johnny Neptune; a real attention-whore type, you know…) Anyway, rule was winner plays White, my friend the Chess Champion, had won, so my room mate played Black, which I knew was his favorite anyway, and he always played extremely aggressive, even if he was playing Black, starting at a one-move-disadvantage (I mean, someone has to take the first move, right? Or will you hate your right arm? But I digress…)
Anyway, my room mate came out strong, started a heavy attack, moving his pieces out offensively and taking two pieces right off the bat. I could see that he was over-extended, but his confidence was high.
He said,
<"What kind of Chess Champion are you? I'm kicking your ass! I'm coming down your throat, taking your pieces, and there is nothing you can do''' about it!"
The Champion replied,
