So I just rewatched El Topo, and I fucking loved it, even more than my first viewing.
So what are your thoughts on El Topo and Jodorowsky in general, I personally love him, think his films are visually interesting and entertaining, but I'm not one of those nutters who thinks he's some artistic and philosophical genius.

Agree with
>think his films are visually interesting and entertaining, but I'm not one of those nutters who thinks he's some artistic and philosophical genius
entirely. I have no idea what his films are "about", but i love to watch them. It's almost pure cinema. Cinema beyond rationale.

>>1242 (OP)I only saw The Holy Mountain but holy shit was that not great. I want to get round to watching El Topo at some point but I don't think I can bring myself to watching it on a computer screen. I'll have Lovefilm send it to me by post.

El topo is excellent, but he never really made anything else I really like. The holy mountain had its beautiful moments, but seemed almost forced at points, and is rather one dimensional. I didn't like Santa sangre at all.

>>1275I really liked Holy Mountain myself, if nothing else just for the scale and his self awareness of how ridiculous it all is. Santa Sangre I did enjoy but I had to go into regular film watching mode, it's not like his other stuff really.

Even though the first third of The Holy Mountain is excellent, El topo is my favorite. I wouldn't mind watching it again myself. It's a real shame Jodo's best films were unobtainable for so long, it certainly dampened his ability to get more projects funded.

>>1313My favourite was Holy Mountain until I rewatched El Topo which is now by far my favourite, noticed much more detail and clever things to it.

His love for art and the spiritual is infectious. Beautiful man. Enjoyed El Topo quite a bit. No idea when I'll watch his others.

I've watched El Topo three times. I should mention that my first experience with Jodorowsky was The Holy Mountain and I've watched that so many times I've lost track. The first time I enjoyed it, the second time I noticed a lot more details about it. The third time was when I did acid for the first time. It was really emotional for me and I feel like that was the time I gained the most insight into the film itself. I'm not the kind of asshole who thinks you NEED psychedelics to really get into Jodorowsky's work but I think it really opens you up to the spiritual side of them. I'm planning on tripping and watching The Holy Mountain sometime soon, I'm interested in how that's going to go.

Can you talk more about this? Jodo was in the talks for making Dune and Salvador Dali and Orson Welles were going to be involved?
Color me curious!

It's all in the documentary called Jodorowsky's Dune. You'd probably like it.
