agreed, the anti-customer car folks are all forgetting the impact that track operations has on performance. meme teams running a customer current-year Mercedes would still get btfo by half the field, easily. add to that the hypocrisy of ex-customer teams like Williams opposing customer cars so vehemently. just look at Haas, they're running a modded Ferrari SF-15T and their best result was 5th.
imo the push to have a cheaper standard engine was a good compromise, tho we'll never see another DFV era. the silver lining in all of this is even the notorious pay drivers are still pretty good.

It would also be good for crews to get some experience running an F1 team even if they participate in just 1 or 2 races. Just keep the super-license restrictions up for any would-be privateer and ensure they can cheaply get a new one if they actually manage to finish on points and not be a menace to everyone else on the track. It would also give various 30 somethings who've tried to get into F1 a chance to show that they are just late bloomers when it comes to this sport.
