Indeed camless engines (either with fully pneumatic valves, or with electromagnetic actuation) are viable, but the current engines use a camshaft to actuate valve opening, and compressed gas to close them.

I'm with Button on the new rules not changing anything. Ted/Sky are pretending the pick-your-compound system will make it more likely that a team will go for one-stop strategies compared to the current ruleset. Like I said before, the more I think about this it's clear that the teams will actually have less choice in the new system since there are now two sets out of the twelve (thirteen with the Q3 set) that can only be used during the race.
Not going to make any bold predictions here on exactly what the teams are going to do choice-wise (unlike Sky). Just saying that any team that puts in 5/3/2 SS/S/M has to be pretty desperate for a good quali performance and then try to one-stop the race. But of course that strategy wouldn't be possible because they'd have to start the race on super softs and two-stop it with both reserved compounds like their video shows… which is going to change nothing.

The problem with the "different choices/tactics" argument, is that the teams will do computer simulations and will all find the same fastest scenario.
Only retarded teams like Williams will get it wrong, and only desperate retarded teams like Sauber will do a different strat.
