This is one of the major reasons that I have a distrust in Ron dennis' McLaren. They have no interest in the stability or integrity of the sport (Formula 1 is named after an engine formula that the FIA thinks its okay to have nothing to do with), they only care about keeping the brand out there. Ron Dennis will be a dick licker for literally anything the fia does that is retarded (closed cockpits, enclosed wheels, drs, kers, limits on the number of steering wheel buttons) as the brand remains prominent enough for Ron to sell stupid shit with the name.
I have no love for mateshitz and his energy drink team, but at least he gets the fucking point of f1 and has been running a long game of promoting it (running old 3 liter and turbo cars as part of events at the Austrian gp).

Take the huge engine covers we have as an example.
In the early 2000's engine covers were getting smaller and smaller.
The big teams got worried that they would lose advertising space (teams actually had lots of sponsors back then)
So the FIA passed a rule for 2004 that mandated a minimum engine cover (and RWEP) size.
It immediately made the cars look shit, and still does to this day.
