Despite the fact that I am dedicated to transparency (we have a full log of board actions for this reason), and the fact that any constructive suggestions of this board's users are welcomed, they claim that I am to be removed as a Board Owner.
No global rule which is listed on the 8chan FAQ page would give them reason to remove me. This does not stop them from fear mongering. I encourage you to be wise to this.
Before this board, there were numerous attempts to make threads on /sp/ which were vandalized, ridiculed, and eventually bumped off. There were a good number of posters who would come over to this board and insist that all race weekend threads had to be on /sp/. Now they are pushing the angle that this board should not exist and that the preceding part of this paragraph never happened.
I'm not particularly concerned about their fear mongering, but I want you to know what is going on.
No board is worth anything without its userbase, and This Board is no different. This board's season has far exceeded expectations, and I hope we have many more together.

I think its time for Rainmaker (Raikkonen gets auto corrected to this) to go if he keeps up this level of performance honestly. I don't know who will replace him. Bottas isn't bad by any means, but could do with being a tad more consistent. Also I don't like Hakkinen's legislating from the bench (criticizing Raikonen's performance, lauding Bottas'.) I agree in general. Ricciardo would be perhaps the best choice in talent but I don't think Vettel would risk being beaten by him again and rather push the team to choose Bottas or Hulkenberg instead.
If Bottas stays at Williams he risks them being shit next year and becoming another Hulkenberg as he fades into insignificance, so it would probably be best to jump for Ferrari now.
Kimi seems to be done now, it was pretty symbolic that it was Bottas who took his guaranteed podium place if he is to take his seat too. Why instead of making smaller engines more fuel efficient, why not make bigger engines more fuel efficient?
like force F1 teams to use V10 engines like in 2003 with the same amount of fuel as they use today.
I bet F1 engineers can do it.

I was bored at work and was just thinking about it in relation to the fuel saving messages.
The engineers have found that the quickest way to get to the finish is to under fuel the cars and fuel save mid race or get lucky with a safety car. The extra weight of the fuel to allow you to go flat out through the whole race negates the advantage it brings.
Canada was a bit extreme due to it being the harshest on fuel and there was no safety car.
Would this still be the case with a 3.0L engine setup?
Is there anyway to discourage this strategy currently?

As far as I remember there was fewer sensors (probably not as accurate) and fewer radio transmissions (Though we probably just didn't get them broadcasted) in that engine era. Data wasn't sent back in real time to the pits and then sent all the way back to the bases in Britain for live analysis like it is now.
F1 engineers have come a long way and know new things about racing and how to go racing as fast and efficiently as possible.
In general I'm just curious about how the modern knowledge and tech we now know and have would affect that style of engine.

It was during the second 3 liter era (we're talking post 1999 or so, when mosley in his infinite wisdom said everyone had to have v10s of the same weight /s) when they banned bidirectional telemetry. So feeding info back to the car was a nono. There was still tons of data on per cylinder performance, brake heat, tyre degradation (as was factored into the now banned traction control systems), and fuel flow. The only major difference in the analytics and data, is, as you say, in the feeding it back in real time to the team headquarters. This does have an impact in strategy, but when Fuel flow and fuel usage limits didnt exist (As they shouldnt in a displacement based formula, and indeed in all of sprint racing), that impact is not nearly as big as it is now with 3 enormous constraints on strategy (rev limit, fuel limit, fuel flow limit).

For a lot of the V10 era they had 2-way telemetry, and could tune the car from the pits mid race.
It's biggest moment in the spotlight was when Schumi damaged his front wing at the Hungo ring, and they tuned the handling instead of pitting him, and he won the race.
The finally banned it because of typical "in my day" whinging.

Expounding on what I said, sprint racing should be a sprint. And while no race will be without any element of strategy, no rules should encourage drivers to do anything other than push. Any desire to pace yourself should be organic.
If you had a free 3 liter formula, you wouldnt see drivers lifting and coasting, as it would still be faster to push and then pit. (this is kind of fucked with since the advent of ridiculously low pit lane speed limits).

That's basically what group c was. You had a car that had to be enclosed, and had a maximum width and tank size. You could stop 5 times for fuel as a maximum. Everything else was open. Cars were faster than they are now, cars were cheaper than they are now.
Then the fia killed group c in the name of "cost cutting" and "road relevance" (sound familiar?). After 1992 world sports car collapsed. I dont mean that lots of teams left. I mean the championship disbanded and some people raced at lemans under aco rules.
These rules actually killed endurance racing.

Well they had a decent idea behind what they were doing, they just did it badly.
In 1970 they had the money to invest in the circuit.
What they specifically wanted to do was to get as much of the circuit as they could off the public roads so they could host it as a permanent circuit. Also in theory it would be safer.
In 1970 everything from Tetra Rouge all the way round to Maison Blanche was public road (I don't think the pit straight was)
So they just made plans to move everything on to new track.
That is why the straight in the proposal is at angle. They were going to build a brand new straight opposite the road.
This all got scaled back until the only thing they did was to take it off the road at the porsche curves

When Verstappen slammed into the back of Grosjean and had the gall to flip the blame, and later act like he wouldn't be a racing driver if he didn't go for every gap (even that one which was not a pass, just a collision), that really resonated with me.

There was an economist who proposed putting a spike in the center of every car's steering wheel to increase road safety. People would grasp that they were driving a death trap and wouldnt fuck around on their phone or eat a burrito while driving.
I'm not advocating that, but I am pointing out that there is a level of acceptable risk. More people die each year from bathtub falls than terrorism, and I'm sure there's a similar statistic for motorracing.
My point is that Bianchi's crash proves that the most remote fucking circumstances that create some level of danger will eventually occur. You cannot make it completely safe and we should stop trying to. Everyone knows what they're signing up for.
If you want to mandate safety equipment, fine, if you want to revise the rules for marshalling, fine, if you want to improve track barriers, fine, but slowing down the cars, and fucking with the tracks (beyond possibly blind corners and improved facilities) is unacceptable.
If I had to describe F1 in a sentence, that sentence would be "throwing the baby out with the bathwater."
If you watch the Derek Warwick interview in the other thread, you'll see that when he was a lower series safety advocate (after his brother died) he went through great pains to improve track safety in a manner that didnt shit all over the sport.

'E-sports' (that is my least favourite word ever) are becoming more and more popular. Players are earning ridiculous salaries for having a really high keystroke speed. It's on sport channels already.

Oh it won't be simulator stuff it will be crazy racing.
Bernie can create his ultimate racing series with loop-da-loops and shortcuts.
That is what is entertaining to the fans or at least what the makers think they want.
In the end F1 and motor racing will evolve but it won't go back to what it has been.
Even the stuff like TT is changing. The newish TT Zero class is all electric and is about a 1:50 slower than the outright lap record and some of the big names race in it.
It's been improving every year in speed. If it keeps going the same way then in about 3-4 years it will be the fastest

We can all taste the sarcasm, it's just that your phrasing almost always makes it sound like you're okay with it. If you pull it all apart though I do find the drone racing video a bit cool.
I wouldn't watch it as a series/sport or want it to replace motorsport in anyway but a video of them going close to each through a forest from FPV is pretty cool. I have quadcopter chassis sitting around with no guts or engines and now that I have job I can finish it.
RC stuff has always been an interesting hobby
And I do find on some level the electric bike class quite interesting in it's own little world
It's new, it's developing quickly and John McGuinness races in it & he lives down the road from me.
So I guess if you do have a small interest in it then it's much easier to pull off being over the top or passively flippant.
It's 4am. I'm not fully conscious anymore and Le Mans is soon. I'm going to bed.
