So I'm genuinely curious on the appeal and inner workings of this kink. Like not in some condescending "I don't get it you guys are dumb" way but as a genuine examination as someone who is also super into it but tends to notice the same variations come up repeatedly.

For me, it's wonderful mixing sexual pleasure with a game I enjoy. Being a subservient healslut to a big strong tank is certainly nice, but for me, they've got to play the game. If the guy starts logging in only to erp, I'll get bored and move on. And I really like the dynamic of being a completely submissive fucksleeve for him if he does good, but being bratty to him if he does poorly. Doesn't have to be tank, works for dps too. Top damage dealer on that last dungeon? Just fuck me up. Lowest dps of the dungeon? Maybe I'll be nice enough to watch you while you jerk off, but you don't really deserve even that today. Likewise, it gives me an extra incentive to perform well, and it's also just kind of exciting knowing whatever people we're partied with have no idea the whole dungeon run we're doing together is just a big mating ritual for us.
At least, that's how I idealistically imagine it! I mostly end up ERP'ing with random people when I do. I only had one long-term partner, and they rarely wanted to actually play the game and mostly bossed me around to hire more sluts for the guild when we weren't erp'ing, then their personality would turn whatever new hires I gathered away, then they'd complain about it being because I wasn't trying to recruit quality people, and after a string of constant criticisms and blaming me for their own failures I ended up breaking it off.
I still hope. After most dungeon runs that go well, I still secretly hope the whole group will agree it was a good run worthy of celebration, and that the whole party will pass me around like a dick-scuking slut right there in the boss room before disbanding the party. I'll tell them all what I good job they did, and how proud I am as I do whatever they need in appreciation.

Reminds me of someone I played a game with who told me a fantasy of theirs was to fuck someone who beat them in pvp. A friend and I are split on this. I like the idea of Healdomming, sending out a submissive to fight, giving them orders, treating their wounds, supplying them buffs, and either praising or punishing them depending on their performance. She thinks that the dominant should naturally be the combatant. I counter that my character can just as easily drain the melee fighters health as restore it, has access to mind control, and a bevy of other magical effects (that she is dependent on me providing for her.) It doesn't matter how sharp a sword or how defined her abs are if I can fly out of reach, drain her limp, and then lock her in literally unbreakable bondage. She'll be doing my laundry and catering to my whims just to get the buffs back.

It's not the role somebody in-charge would usually assign themselves unless they were just that personally invested in being in the thick of combat for its own sake. Whereas, I prefer coordinating my 'allies', providing them with resources, tending their wounds, training them to my specifications, and ultimately telling them what to do.
There are probably flavors of Daddydom underlying this; wanting to at once be the caretaker of and completely dominate someone.

I think tankdom is the most common dom because they literally control the flow of the fights and are usually the dungeon guide. It’s easy for them to let the rest of the group get killed before them.
Healdom is second most common because while thy don’t have as much responsibility as the tank, they do still have a lot of control over group survival. Also, while you can see a tank dom as the powerful one leading the charge, you can see the healdom as the one too good for the frontlines, hanging behind while the others do the dirty work, choosing whether they want to heal them, letting their health get just a little too low to remind them who’s really in charge.
DPSdom is what I see the least, and that’s because they hold the least power. After all, there’s always more than one dps in the party to pick us the slack. As a dom or a sub, I’d say it’s difficult for them to maintain their status if they can’t manage to consistently be the top dps. I can see a sub dps being punished for low damage by a dom healer not healing then, or a dom tank not pulling adds off them. But what does a dom dps can only do top damage, nothing that interacts directly with their sub. Well, I guess they could go aggro extra stuff for their sub tank/healer to have to contend with.
Anyways, I’ve just been thinking thoughts and wanted to share.

Had loads of fun on Archeage when they released the B2P version and got to be the guild masters healslut for 2 months before as always they ruined the game with their incompetence with the guildmaster & most of the guild quitting..
Really feels like any new mmos that are releasing aren't that great for this, hope they release a support class from start in Crimson Desert and not mid in as in BDO.
