Literally 99% of my profiles fail. I've tried hundreds upon hundreds of ideas and almost none of them stick. The few that do are the ones that I have left right now. Trial and error is how I roll. If I had to start listing them I'd be writing a post for hours but I can list a couple that I thought might've been fun to work with.

I've got… a lot. I generally chalk them up to poor execution or strange kink focuses that'd better be served by solo writing. It's why I keep an "archive" of my profiles when I delete them with screenshots of the kinklist and a .txt with the description so I can look back and learn from my mistakes or bring them back if I ever feel the urge. I've come up with a half-dozen more-or-less dom ideas that feel like distinct and detailed characters with obvious lewd applications and adequately made profiles (though that bar has climbed of late, sadly).
…clearly most people don't agree. I have three or four I like a lot who barley see play. Maybe I'm overly picky with subs- strong paragraph to multi-paragraph, some specific interests. Or maybe I'm just not as good at making profiles as I'd like to think. Or maybe I'm just bad at hunting. It's really hard to tell.
Of late though, I've spoken to some peers and reached the conclusion that I'm probably not majority dom. Sure I can switch it up a bit, and I knew I was worse at dom stuff, but I may be more picky about getting the right 'match' and 'click' when I dom and that could be a hobble I haven't really noticed.
Oh well. Always another chance tomorrow night or whatever.

I have some very popular top tier profiles if I'd dare to say so myself. The problem is that my standards are pretty damn high when it comes to post-size and style.
I have a Krystal that I want to be raped and knocked up by sharpclaws, and although there were some very interested takers they simply haven't been around at all.
Similar thing goes for my tigress, whom I've been hunting for feral horses for with at best two or three little sessions happening.
Trying to do long-term anything is insanely difficult.

My problems with popular profiles seem to stem from the facts that I either make something from a series that's too niche, or that I dislike the profile and end up scrapping it a few days after creation because of some minor reasons. DM/GM profiles or things that are just generally enticing ideas are the worst offenders for me.

I'm green to /erp/ and spontaneous forum-based RP in general, but if you're willing to take a risk on some wasted time, I would like to make a character to interact with you. I wouldn't say all of my profiles are unsuccessful, but not all of them have hit the kind of success I hoped for. A lot of it was more my fault than anything; niche character ideas, poor profile design, social anxiety stopping me from approaching others.
I'm starting to realize, though, that my biggest problem is my self-destructive tendencies. I've deleted profiles after they become too popular to manage. I keep making new ones, even when I should probably stop. Twice now, I've dropped off the face of the earth without warning. I'm trying hard to stay afloat this time, but I'm afraid of messing up again.
I started here thinking I'd come up with an amazing profile or two that'd keep me set for a while, but now I think I'm better off with the few, yet wonderful and stable partners I have. Hasn't really stopped me from making more characters, though, and to be honest, having less than a fourth of my approaches get any response at all has been a confidence-shaker.

A favorite Profile of mine is a Female Crusader, you know from Darkest Dungeon? She suffers from Gender Dysphoria thanks to her parents raising her as a boy. It's my experience that there are certain kinks and character archetypes which for some reason act like oil and water in terms of how popular they are with people that are into one or the other. A good example would be Anthro species commonly associated with breeding and chastity(that's at least understandable), ageplay and bdsm, or male bara types and any orientation but gay.
I've made at least a handful of profiles focusing one of those oil and water combos, both sub and dom, and haven't had any luck getting anywhere with them.

Inability to get the plays I want has led me to compromising and experimenting with kinks and themes I would have otherwise ignored. Made me very critical and picky with blues because I was offering them what I always wanted myself, but could never get. My last blue profile was an absolute failure. I want to play a handsome happy young man with a huge dick, because I'm really just here for escapism from my awful life. Goddamn do I want quality play with a literate and creative partner, but I don't want to write something that wants to be published. The good players want real stories with believable characters. I want shitter content with good writing. Does that make sense?

Pretty much in the same boat, there. This is the only way I can enjoy being a dom. For the longest time I thought that was everyone's experience. PRO TIP: The best ways to tell if someone is a female is by the kinks and by how angsty or aggressive they are.
If you think they're a female and they have lots of anger spilling out of their kinks (like angrily telling people not to be "assholes"), chances are they are a male. You can't tell the sex of someone else if you have autism, or if you keep your rare pepe collection up to date, or if you work with others to gather information about people on the internet. Most people won't be able to tell regardless of where they come from, and if you come from an imageboard, you are almost certainly unable to tell, and will probably use your guess to fuel your sexual desires or some kind of innate anger you have with the opposite sex and only fuck everything up because of it. If you are angry about this, I'm 100% talking about you.
Wanna know what you should really do? Not care, and not bother to attempt to suss it out, and ignore anyone who says they are this or that, continuing to treat them like you treat anyone you assume to be male, I.E, default. You probably can't treat them with neutrality if you delude yourself into thinking someone is anything other than male. It's related to why you can't get your profiles to work; it is in fact you that doesn't work, not your profile. What's tragic and hilarious is that you don't know it's your fault and that you will never believe it's your fault.

So I'm an altaholic who makes a ton of characters, so I'm bound to have some ones that just overall don't work out. I think out of the thirty or so characters I have the least successful one I have is for a Danganronpa fan character called Fan Fan Long.

Truthfully, I don't think she's the greatest piece of work out there as far as profile stuff goes, but I've gotten more attention with nothing but a 'WIP' on the page. I think the fact she is a fan character to a canon that isn't exactly in the top slot of popularity really hurts her in a lot of ways, but I also wanted to use her for a focus of a lot of non-sexual/kink focused role plays which also turns a lot of people away. What I want to do with her isn't also that conventional as well as I sort of want to play her. She's a submissive character who is set in a lab like setting and has experiments conducted on her, but is familiar enough with the enviorment to know whats going on and guide anyone who comes into the lab. While she may be on the receiving end of experiments as well, she also helps narrate what is going on to the other character. Ends up being like a GM/DM character ontop of being her own character. I honestly though don't know how well this hybrid actually works because I've yet to get any attention with her, but some day I'll strike something.
If anything though, she's a good character to log into if I just want to shoot the shit in the rooms without having a bunch of vanilla alpha-dom wolf furries approach me with a "hi how r u?", lol.
