I see hot guys all over, I also see plenty of gross old dudes. I see my fair share of sexy girls, but I have never come across an unattractive female character. Why is that? It seems so very weird to me, consider how popular gross slob male characters are when paired with young beautiful women. Why isn't the opposite nearly as prevalent?
Is it because the people who play females aren't interested? Do they think they'll get no approaches? Is it because there is a drought of art on the subject and the scarce few examples available online aren't really ugly per se? Scars, braces, mental disorders, pimples, cellulite, skin blemishes, stretch-marks, boob larger/smaller than its counterpart, nasty slob habits. These are common IRL but so rare on RP, it can't be solely because people want to escape into a fantasy world where everyone's perfect, otherwise why would male slobs be around and get play?

Unattractive women are always less valuable than attractive ones. Sure, they can have skills and knowledge far more useful than just being pretty, but no one wants to fuck them. Traditional narratives use women as plot devices or rewards for heroism. If a homely woman attracts someone it's because they're easy. They can't get good dick because they're ugly, and if a handsome man offers them a pitty fuck they will be grateful. They'll show real affection whereas a hotter, better looking woman always thinks she could find someone better than you.

I like playing characters with something inherently wrong to them. Not physically ugly, but some psychological scar or issue that will explode into a horrible mess sooner or later.

Ugly male characters are usually ugly to "punish" whatever girl character they have sex with. It's a part of the humiliation kink. That same kink does not really seem to exist in reverse. Sex with an ugly girl doesn't have as much value as sex with a pretty girl, but it isn't considered to "devalue" and humiliate the man who has sex with the ugly girl.
That said, I try to play relatively average-looking girls since I like to play reverse traps and don't want them to be girly. I might play girls with physical flaws–buck teeth maybe, or braces, or scars or something–but the idea of playing an ugly girl just isn't as fun.

The idea of characters coming together over some kind of gradual tension brought on by circumstances and chemistry, spending enough time together that it wouldn't matter, etc. is basically the only way I can get "into" hscenes anyway, and the idea of having that with a character that's genuinely not pretty at all and making them feel pretty anyways oh my gosh only exaggerates and plays to that for me. I'm genuinely scared there's something wrong with me, because I'm massively attracted to broken, ugly characters or, alarmingly, people and the thought of helping them feel better about themselves/becoming better-looking. This applies to mental illness, which is a decently well-represented kink, as much as to just… Not pretty people, women that never learned makeup, generally unlovable things in people and otherwise, centipedes, wasps, etc. God have mercy on my soul
If I had to wager a guess it's because masculine attractiveness is massively conflated and attached to abstract things like power and wealth, in addition to generally being a lot scarcer, difficult to define, and fleeting, whereas female attractiveness is more biological, base, and generally more… Widely distributed, in actual women. There's a hell of a lot more nasty dudes than nasty women, as best I can tell. Maybe that has something to do with it. I don't think anybody is qualified to know and I have enough screwed up double standards that anything I think of it should be taken with a grain of salt,

Unattractive qualities work better with more context and as means for creating emotional attachment, they are fine in longer stories. I'd wager a guess that majority of scenes played aim to create an attractive mental image to get off to in short term, where details that don't build towards the goal easily become distractions. Unattractive qualities are nice as leverage for making someone feel good and can make for some very emotionally intense sex. Male or female, characters that are too perfect become more quickly narratively exhausted. I think it's about picking the right tool for the job.
Many of the points mentioned by other posters are also good.

Anyway, I tend to prefer making less conventionally attractive characters in general. RP sites tend to be filled with wish fulfillment "smoking hot 10/10 bombshells" no matter where you look. Huge dicks, amazing abs, massive racks and sweet asses. That's fine, there's nothing wrong with making and playing what you want.
Typically, however, I prefer more narrative to my play and two perfect people being perfect together just feels fake and pointless. It's more fun when characters interact and develop. Learn to like one another instead of just going "you're hot, I'm hot lets fuck" asap.

Regardless, there's definitely qualities that are universally unattractive like acne, versus those that aren't deemed optimal, but not necessarily off-putting like buck teeth or poor fashion sense. To be fair I don't know of any ugly male characters that go into any detail on any of those. They might be fat but cellulite and stretchmarks tend to be ignored. Things like warty dicks are about the closest I've seen to pimples.

Same reason why "butherface" porn is by no means the most popular genre. It seems to me the whole point of the thread is to understand why this is the "traditional" thing, and I don't think it's very helpful to go "no use talking about it."
