https://www.npr.org/2019/11/06/776840260/china-introduces-restrictions-on-video-games-for-minors?t=1573121569143

>Six measures were outlined in the guidelines, aimed at preventing minors "from indulging in online games." Among them is a ban on online video games for minors between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. Minors will also be restricted to 90 minutes of game time everyday except national holidays, when they are allowed a maximum of three hours.

>Online microtransactions, which many view as lucrative and gouging, are also targeted. These purchases are capped monthly at $28 or $57, depending on a minor's age.

>Chinese officials will also require everyone to register accounts for online games using their real name and phone number, which will help government entities to regulate playing time.

>The government hopes this will encourage youth to spend less time playing videogames and more time outside, working, dating, improving themselves

Thoughts?

Will this make young men strong again or is it too much?

In my opinion it is good thing china is doing this, gaming corrupts young minds, gets them addicted to dopamine and leads to further degeneracy like porn, masturbation and sexual deviance

It's good, but we all know it's useless

Most Chinese are addicted to the games other Chinese made

So maybe they should shut down those Tencent's shitty games first

This looks to me like how they try to limit gaming in South Korea. I would disagree with an idea that videogames in general are degenerate, I'm more inclined to call it a recreation, maybe even the kind of recreation that makes you learn some useful abilities like problem solving or reaction time. Degenerate is spending disappropriate amount of time recreating and even then I would rather see it as a symptome of a bigger social illness. There may be a reason why it's so much of a problem in South Korea and not THAT much in other parts of the world. Of course remembering, that some elements of gaming, like micropayments that are actually gambling in disguise, are degenerate. But the same I can say about this kind of law, which requires minors to provide their personal data to those companies, this must backfire one way or another. The motives behind this may be right (like with many laws), but a libertarian within me kind of fails to understand how an entertainment-craving minor after being deprived of his ability to play videogames will go outside instead of moving to related entertainment like tv series or chatrooms.

This is a parent's responsibility, not the government's. It's simply lazy parenting at this point. Also, different children have different personalities, and for one child an hour per day of video games might be healthy while unhealthy for someone else.

>China limits gaming for minors

I wonder what the effects of the law will be? I think if someone spends a long time playing games all day then it may be a form of escapism. if so, limiting time playing games is not addressing the real cause of the problem, the thing they seek to escape in the first place. on the other hand, maybe they will be forced to address their issue becuase they don't like other forms of entertainment enough to continue to escape?
