If you want to do an ad, I would go for a board-specific ad for a day, just to see the effect it will have on activity, maybe wait a week to have an idea on how many are going to stay. Do the ad on a large board, to get the most out of the ad (I suppose /a/, for obvious reasons). If things go well, consider a global ad, if they don't go so well, then there isn't much to do.
The ad itself should be attention catching, while being pleasing to the eye. On top of that, it should clearly advertise the board and what the board consists of.
You already know this though.
I have no clue where to self-advertise. A place that isn't going to be fussy about being advertised to, that isn't too big, and isn't going to ruin the board's atmosphere.

Autistic though it might sound, a board-tan is a good way to promote yourself. You'd have a way to antropomorphise the board and have it introduce itself to an outside audience. It's also the easiest way to encourage and generate OC, which again would get people curious.
Fair warning: a board-tan works best if it's an original creation and not a pre-existing character you randomly adopted as a mascot. So if you're going this route, make sure you're willing to engage and put in the time/discussion. Good design and characterisation is everything.

Hey /a/utists, anyone here interested in claiming /c/? Despite being a legacy board the current retard that owns it has left it totally empty, with the exception of pic related, which is technically not even anime. I'd take it over myself but I already own a board and want to focus on that only. If your cute-anime-grils folder is small you could probably just download all the images from halfchan /c/ in mass and dump them on it to fill it up.

So, miscellaneous changes I did to the CSS.
- Changed the "[placeholder]" blotter during page loading with "[loading...]";
- Made the spoilers the same colour as the highlight thing;
- Slighty edited said highlight set up.
And finally, a thing I weanna do since a while: add some new phases to the cycling blotter. They are really old. Anyone has suggestions for them? Could send them to codemonkey once we have some.
