I've noticed a lot of the tumblr blogs tend to lean toward humiliation types, but those that aren't are some real gems. I think the connections the fetish has with D/S fetishes tends to emphasize the humiliation aspect as well.

I think the anonymity may be more attractive to compersive types. I mean, technically most all internet communities are anonymous to some degree, but most places you're still attaching some kind of name and can be individually contacted.

I think the humiliation types tend to be more brazen just by the nature of liking the humiliation, thus are more likely to 'out' themselves, even if just with an internet handle.

Compersive types are more, for lack of a better word, normal. They aren't quite as extreme as people into humiliation and thus might feel more secure on 8chan.

It's also possible that with blogs being heavily porn-based, that just works better for them. When you're expressing a sexual fetish through a few stills, gifs, or frames of video, subtlety doesn't always come across so well. It's like how people who engage in cybersex tend towards kinky stuff, even if they do appreciate more vanilla sex in real life. When you're just using text and may not be as emotionally invested in the partner, the great feelings that come along with intimacy don't translate, so one ratchets up the extremeness to make it more enticing.

It's not a single specific thing that gets to me, there's just something about a lot of people and their interactions that rubs me the wrong way.

And don't get me wrong, I'm sure there's some lovely people there, it's a large website and I don't mean to paint everyone with such broad strokes. But unfortunately it's hard to ignore the general feel I get from the community culture.

There's an air of cliquishness and self-importance, and the holier-than-thou attitudes that come with it. People establish these weird hierarchies and pecking orders based on supposed experience and community activity. They try to take something that is predominantly between a person and their sexual partner(s) and try to make it their nebulous sub-culture.

I lose more respect for them every time I read something about 'training' and 'protocol', or someone talking about their experience like their at a job interview, or whether someone should be allowed to be called 'master'. And every time someone uses the word 'alpha' in reference human beings, without a hint of irony.

And that's not even getting into the folks who seem to have a hard time separating fantasy from reality. They develop weird philosophies to go along with their fetish, or maybe just develop the fetishes to go along with their weird worldview. Either way, they end up with actual prejudices and bigotries that are reflections of their fetishes.

Maybe they just come across that way online, maybe it's that the people who are uninhibited enough to make fetlife profiles are prone to have less of a filter. I don't know. I've not really seen any appeal in getting to know the community better. And most profiles I read, if they tell me anything about the person, seem to raise a lot of red flags.

I know any community of significant size is going to have some problems like this. But it seems to make up a lot of it. And I think I expected a higher standard. This are weirdos, freaks, and misfits, somehow it seems like they should be more empathic, more accepting, more understanding. But no. If anything, they are less.

It's not quite tumblr-bad, but the whole thing feels like a high school where everyone thinks they're a sex god.

I know what you mean. Turning fetish communities into a form of social media means you get the same kinds of trouble as in social media, where everything becomes a performance for some people. Only the performers will broadcast, so it seems like the place is full of them. That in turn adjusts norms. Oh, I agree. The reason I brought up my distaste for the fetlife community at-large was because I was suggesting possibility of contacting other cuckquean communities to see if it would increase the numbers here.
