Have we had a thread about them before? The antlers/vixen pairing has a pretty strong correlation to this community. Official descriptions:

Maybe their animal friends are metaphors for human girlfriends/boyfriends. Saying she'd love for you to join with her boyfriend would be a little too blatant for a children's franchise. Some artfriend should draw a humanized version of Sprint though. I like how the characters aren't just humans with animal ears like so many anime catgirls, etc., but also don't stray too far to the 'dangerously furry' zone.

If you watch the show, the Enchantimals' besties aren't normal animals, all of them are able to speak English, albeit they do it less often than the humanoids and it's a lot more gutteral and hesitant. So they're definitely of comparable sentience, if you watch the show, if more childish at times (more like younger siblings). But who says a cuckquean can't be a nurturing older woman? Think of Twilight sharing Spike with Sweetie Belle, for example.

On what is this fundamentalism based? If it is fundamentalist Christianity then please tell me where in the bible it defines non-humans with intelligence/sentience equal to or greater than humans as merely "animals"? Given that humans are classified as being in the Animal Kingdom in biology, I think I would prefer "subhuman animals" to refer to lesser species of animal, because "animal" alone includes humans in modern speak.
Also how are you going to deal with situations like say, Salem who is a human male morphed into a cat but who occasionally takes on human form? I mean the fucking PREMIER of Secret Life was Salem trying to make Sabrina jealous by dancing with other girls the moment she makes him human, something he'd probably been waiting centuries for.
