In real life industrial pollution is typically the result of careless greedy cost-cutting measures. In Captain Planet the "Eco-Villians" deliberately destroyed the environment because they just thought it was hilarious, making money was always just a side thing. Some of their plots didn't even involve making any fucking money at all.
