Anyone else read Cancertown? It is a story about a man with a brain tumour which allows him to see what he views as a hidden layer of reality.
His companions in Cancertown (name of the other world) range from whimsical faeries to nightmare fuel and in the 'real world' they consist of a combination of the homeless and the mentally ill.
Think Hellblazer meets Through The Looking Glass and Dream Quest of The Unknown Kadath and you are there.
