It's an animated pilot. It's not exactly Adventure Time. Besides, didn't Chris and co get Hellbenders to a pilot stage before?
Besides Chris hates animating now and doesn't want to draw for a living, and pretty much dunks on it any chance he gets. He dislikes it so much that he doesn't even do the thumbnails for his letsplays, which are fucking tiny simple images done new maybe once a week at most. His interests have pivoted to making music and vidya. It seems like his priority is Bowlbo, so while it's fun to dunk on him for not getting a TV show, it hasn't been something he has been working towards in the last decade.

At least Oney, Zach and the rest have real jobs and are producing tangible content. Arin is the real fuckup by choosing the career equivalent of prostitution. ill say that this show seems to have taken 1, perhaps 2 elements from family guy
the first is having 2 plots in each episode, although, in this case, one is clearly more prevalent than the other
the second is "lolsorandum XDDD" humor, like with the bird screaming and the guy living inside the wall; the way he talks reminds me of family guy too
although theres only so much of the second one, its perhaps enough to count as being there

Yeah. The worst part is that Arin is always doing fake stuff to fit in. His no swearing policy that he forced on Dan and himself is purely for the camera and it is still tripping them up after a year because it clearly ends as soon as they stop recording. The Sr Pelo thing was because Arin was touring with a bunch of storytime animators shortly after and wanted to win good boy points with them. It of course doesn't matter that several of them said they found it hilarious, and Arin ended up abusing all his former Newgrounds colleagues on Twitter as part of his meltdown over it.
Grumps has gotten into a weird holding pattern where only Arin plays and Dan basically watches everything, Arin and Dan dunk on the games and laugh at the silly noises the other makes and that's about it. Dan still has a really poor understanding of comedy and it's largely kind of tiresome to watch. Worse, watching some of their interviews, Arin speaks about how he has been trying to coax Dan into making certain jokes and that just smacks of him being some sort of control freak.

I genuinely like this. For some reason it sets up what's normal, what's dark surreal humor, and what genuinely is disturbing. All from just how the main characters react to things. All the rules is just somehow established in just 1 minute. As well as a rather heartwarming ending where the B plot actually had something to do with the A plot. All without wasting much time.Plus a character is hit with something they can't handle leaving a nice hook for something in the future. All because it had one rule I feel is needed for all shows. Stop wasting my fucking time. But this is one episode. I shall need more so it can prove it will follow through with its so far stellar pacing.
God I wish shows today didn't manage their time like utter garbage.
