Apparently, it's out of development hell and coming this November. Hedge your bets on whether it will be shit or tolerable.

It'll be shit. They have an audience, they have the animation assets, and the writing isn't complex or linear enough to merit delays. They're just running out of ideas. Only another 4 months until the dumpster fire begins.

So I watched some of the first episodes and it was funny and clever. But whenever I watch current clips, it's relationship drama, merch-pushing, Pickle-Rick, pseudo-nerd humor for dorks who can shout memes around in their dorm and overall trash.
It lost quality FAST, how can people still defend it?

I can tell you about my experience. Not sure if this is even worth it, since many on this board are only into trolling without any arguments.
I liked S3 the most. It's been a while that I watched it, but it recall it as nihilistic and fun. The 2nd season though I recall as more moralistic, like oh no underage marriage, more wamen of power, Rick goes to prison, …
If S3 was so bad I missed that part. I also didn't find any old thread with the search function on the 8ch homepage. Which is not such a surprise, since you niggers never write the name of the show you are talking about into the OP posting.

Season 3 was the most watered down to make it palatable to reddit and twitter. It had less moralizing than the second one, but more forced attempts at creating memes and clips that would get posted all over social media. I personally tapped out get Schwifty and only saw random episodes or bits and pieces as I stumbled upon them.
Luckily, Sichuan sauce debacle and self-importance of many redditors who like the show generated some bad publicity. That and shows' increased obsession on memes, references, and being 'smart' will kill it. Season 3 was probably the peak of Rick and Morty's popularity.

Okay, at least some criticism. I don't share it, but at least it's something. However, you admitted not to have seen the whole season. I however, didn't recognize any of the mentioned problems. It was fun to watch. They've found their way of doing it. So the next season will probably be great and successful.

Rick and Morty seasons 1 and 2 were pretty fucking funny. Lick my balls morty, you gotta lick my balls to save the world! That was basically the first couple of seasons.
It got popular and the fans destroyed the show for me. This is so shallow it hurts to admit but I just could not enjoy the show anymore because of these people. It didn't hurt that the writing wasn't the same, but that's what did it for me. It was seeing Rick as a spokesperson for I Fucking Love Science garbage and Elron Musk's You have to be very intelligent, and the fucking szechuan sauce. I actually became embarrassed to admit I watched the show, it had become this hipster symbol to show how cool and smart and funny you were without having to be cool or smart and funny and personally I'd rather have people think I was a no-fun asshole that join the chucklefuck parade.

Okay, I still don't get this feeling, but okay. It's like: "The show is to popular now, so I can't like it anymore."- AND/OR - "I don't like the other people liking it, so I can't like it anymore." That's more about identity then just watching some show. At least that's not a reason to hate it, like some people do.
Maybe I have to watch it again, to me S3 wasn't less anti-PC or less funny then S1, I only had some issues with S2.
I think what I still don't get: What was it about, which is now gone? Trollish fun?

No, it's more like here's this thing I like that's pretty good, and now it's popular and that's alright, but because it's popular it's changing and the new fans that are coming in don't seem to like it for the same reasons, where I liked it because it was all this nihlistic lick my balls Morty you gotta put this stuff up your ass jokes, they seem to think it has all this esoteric depth it really doesn't, and they just go off with getting tattoos and trashing mcdonalds and marching around with signs talking about how Rick the shithead would want you to be mad at trump and I just wonder is that what I look like? When I talk about the show is it going to be people just repeating the same thing over and over again and showing off their fucking pickle rick tattoo and matching baseball caps and naming their kids morty and summer, and when I watch the show now Rick doesn't want morty to like his balls anymore he wants to go on boring adventures with Summer and Jerry is the good guy all along and all in all I feel like somehow I got tricked by popculture into being a chump.

Cancer never stops. Hate will not ignite us. Why is this show so great you ask? It simply fun. Exploring a universe were nothing really matters and still having interesting adventures. Scif-Fi and Fantasy generally allow great amounts of creative freedom. They are using this here to surprise the audience with a wonderful variety in the stories. I didn't claim it was smart. The haters here are claiming all the time, that the fans only like the show because they think it's smart. It's their obsession. It doesn't matter, because there are other good reasons to watch it. However, my theory is that in a way the show is smarter than their creators and it doesn't matter what they think about how smart it is. Or let's say it's inspirational. It makes some people think and being creative. Whatever, it really doesn't matter, the show is good if that is true or not or if you believe it or not.
Your claim was 'is nothing special'. Well feel free to give me three other western shows which are similar. I can't wait to see the answer to this.

You weren't even addressed, negro and I don't know why you want similar shows from me. Would that be supposed to prove some sort of point? That the show *is* special? Well, it ain't. It has its own unique aspects but none of them actually stand out in a way that go beyond the basic premise.
For the record, I *like* Brick and Mortar. Because I share that wacky sense of humor with Roiland and Harmon, to an extent at least. It's a fine show that suffered from odd writing especially in seasons beyond the first.

Also, you are the biggest retard in the thread, somehow surpassing the faggot that feels the pathological need to argue in favour of the show in this thread.
I hate that I have to do this shit but here we go. The show has an absurdist core, not a nihilistic one. It presents Rick as a character who struggles with his own extreme multi-faceted nihilism (definitely moral nihilism, definitely existential nihilism) and the urges that make him care about people anyway. Rick is essentially refuting the absurdist conclusion that there is a meaning he could make for himself or that he simply experiences as part of being human — despite him obviously striving for some pleasures beyond the purely material. He desires revenge, protection and well-being of his loved ones, meaningful relationships, etc… but it's shown time and time again that his own beliefs in the utter lack of meaning in those sort of things *ruin those things for him*. He takes purely hedonistic pleasures from Unity because that's how he can convince himself that he is just pleasuring himself with the relationship but nearly commits suicide when she actually leaves him because now his entire fake construct collapses. He did actually want the *relationship*and not just the crazy sexy and partying.
There's some examples where Rick kind of acknowledges this, like when he talks with Beth about why he sticks around.

I noticed this season eased off all the weird relationship drama which was nice, and the Jerry bashing was toned down a lot from what was going on in S3. It got a little tiring when every other episode was "hey, look what a piece of shit Jerry is guys, amirite?"
I still think S1 has the best episodes overall, but S4's a lot better than S3.
