Tax-payer money well spent, though? I mean, I'm all for creating good art, and at least they managed that, but how much money was actually spent on this?

Nah, probably not nearly near the top 10 worst expenditures Oregon has made.

The six creative partners, all graduates from the most prestigious animation schools around the world, bring a fresh perspective to the craft.

It looks very Ghibli-ish, but since everything looks Cal Arts, it wouldn't even matter to rip Ghibli's style off for a cartoon.

Too bad if even the american cartoon industry is pumped with more money than they outsource to foreign countries, the current generation doesn't seem to care about pushing the genre forward. Elaborate. What exactly about it is "Ghibli-inspired"? How can you tell? Examples? What would be defined as "Ghibli"? Is it simply having fantastical creatures in the countryside? Can you name examples where similarities existed before the company made a name for themselves; i.e., can you falsify the definition of "Ghibli-inspired"? Just trying to promote critical thinking and articulate understanding is all.

Not that anon, but I can't understand it either. I see that animation and "Ghibli" is the first thing that comes to my mid. Maybe is the character design, maybe is the color palette or maybe is the amount of supernatural being goofing around in the backgrounds, but Ghibli didn't invent fantastic creatures nor simplistic rounded faces style. And yes, I know

>this fucking sophistry

Animation studios and more importantly specific entities have unique styles you autists, it's why fucking "calarts" is a thing or why there's tons of styles NAMED after people, organizations, places, or things (Harlem Renaissance, COBRA, Arabesque, etc.)

Just because your brainlet can't put it into words doesn't mean it doesn't exist. They way to talk about it makes me think you don't even understand what "subtlety" is.

Here's the ghibli artstyle: Foreground objects with simple, bright colors and almost flat shading contrasted with intricate and fluid linework. Detailed painted backgrounds that cause the less complex foregrounds to "pop". The specific proportions and techniques used to draw the characters are also a mainstay of the style (for example, how they draw and place eyes).

There were a lot of "homages" to ghibli. A little too many if you ask me. The artstyle switched somewhat between the scenes and it was pretty clear which parts were "inspired" by ghibli movies. Images are just the most blatant ones. At one point the flowers seemed to ripoff arrietty, the stream at the beginning was very clearly inspired by ghibli, the point where the water falls from the ground and plants start sprouting is obviously from mononoke, the giant rabbit is also very ghiblilike unlike the smaller ones.

They do, and they even have cases like Zombie Land Saga where the Saga prefecture was chosen as the setting so they could co-produce the show with the local government, which was apparently at the time looking to promote itself through anime. Tourism anime show you the specific locations and characteristics of the places they're about, but these ads are just fever dream Ghibli pastiche and tell you nothing about Oregon, and use Japanese concepts to portray an American region. The creators were so focused on huffing their own homage farts they forgot what they were supposed to be doing. The project page brags about social media engagement which doesn't necessarily translate into anything meaningful, while the wiki for Zombie Land Saga has specific examples of the concrete impact the show had on the prefecture. Yeah these are just two short ads and not TV series, but they're made out to be some ingenious marketing coup that show you how amazing Oregon is, which they don't do at all.

But here's a 30 second ad for Canada:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a822uufNGlw

It just shows you locations and activities without making it seem like you have to be on several hallucinogenics and sleep deprived to experience the place like the ad portrays it.
