Has there ever been a cartoon where the characters age?
Like,, image The Simpsons or something, but where the characters get older as the seasons go on. And I don't mean like how these shows sometimes have and occasional birthday episode or they bump up the ages like with The Simpsons. I mean actually age, getting older every year.
Seems like it could be a good way to keep the show fresh as it goes on, as different ages have different things that they do/

No, but there's a few comics. The first 27 issues of Power Pack take place over a year, then the rest of the series takes another year. DC's Fifty Two was real time, but the characters were all adults so it didn't really matter for them

The Loud House will have the characters age up a year in season 5, so Lincoln will go to elementary school, Lynn will go to high school, and Lori will graduate high school.

Well, if you want to include newspaper strips, there's a few. "For Better Or For Worse" comes to mind, it's not particularly good though. I think it also did a time reset at one point as well, or they stopped making new ones and went into "classic" mode, my memory's a bit hazy on which.

Oh I remember this. I think there was also some Jetsons spinoff where Judy becomes a singer and has to have a secret identity or something.

Jimmy Neutron according to the creators and wikipedia/wikia go from having 10 in the movie to 13 in the final season.
In the show itself their personalities change and mature a bit but they never get out of the fifth grade classroom.

If they got stuck in 5th grade why have them age in real time then? Or did they get held back which seems weird for Jimmy given how smart he is.

Kim Possible. The characters started out as high school freshmen and graduated in the final episode in season 4.
ReBoot. While not a real world example but computer people/time, Enzo aged from 01 to 10 binary (also gave an excuse to shrink his shoulder pads so they wouldn't clip through his arms as part of his "aging" redesign) at the end of the first season. While in Season 3 then had Enzo and AndrAIa age to adulthood through accelerated game time compared to regular computer time.

>Seems like it could be a good way to keep the show fresh as it goes on, as different ages have different things that they do
Might be risk/cost of having to redesign the characters again and again for each new season, animators needing to relearn how to draw them again and any merchandise will have to be updated with the current character design possibly leading to a shorter shelf life.
This isn't even taking to account how a bad aging redesign could even piss off the fans.
