Well it doesn't look as obnoxious as something like Hotel Transylvania but I really don't feel there's much comedic value here from this trailer. Don't like Morticia's voice much either.

ehhhhh… I know its faithful to the original designs, but I always thought the women of the Addams Family could have been… cuter.

I know the designs are very close to the source material, but I think they just seem too clean that they stick out in comparison to the realistic background.
I know it's not feasible, but I would have loved to have seen this done in the stop motion style of Boxtrolls or Kubo or Corpse Bride. Think it would have captured the style perfectly.

This part was especially stupid because the Addams family isn't even a nuclear family(TM), but an honest-to-god traditional family, i.e. multiple generations living together before real estate marketers decided you need to buy a whole new house to be a real adult.

Did they seriously have to have the addams family ironically self aware what freaks they are? Older works had them fully believed that they were a perfectly normal family and it was a major part of their charm. Now it’s nowhere near as entertaining.

Could they fuck this up any worse? The entire point of the Addams family is they're an abnormal family who consider everyone else weird. When you start with modern poz saying a woman with 4 cats is as valid a family as 2 white christians with 2.5 children you fuck up the entire concept.
The designs are ugly on every level. Wednesday works as a cute girl who will murder you. The same way her mother is a black widow in human form. Making them hideous devalues their characters in any movie or TV form we've had them in.
I'm not even touching gomez
Expect shitty pop culture jokes every where and any scene which should have an emotional impact to have a joke slid into it to ruin it.

The Adams Family doesn't entirely work as a concept now. You actually need some conception of what a normal family is first. The Adams' look like quaint goths, or even somewhat stuffy conservatives these days. There's freakier shit all over the place being lauded as normal, or better than normal.

You are entirely correct. The addams were stuffy conservative types with a weird twist in the 90s stuff. But how can you out weird trannies and dog fuckers? Does Cousin It have pronouns now? Is Morticia cucking with Pugsley?
At this point the weirdest they could make them is a loving family with a masculine father who loves his wife and two loyal inquisitive children who don't spend all day on the internet.

Actually, that's been a part of the subtle satire of the Addams family since their inception: even though they're a creepy, weird, ugly family of misfits and freaks, they're more happy, emotionally stable and functional than even most other TV families.
They are utterly removed from societal norms, have no connection whatsoever to modern notions of normalcy and decency and yet they're still a loving, happy family unit. Meanwhile, most other couples you see on TV constantly bicker and are completely miserable.
The most freakish thing about the Addams, the thing that makes them so different than us, is that they're happy.

>Actually, that's been a part of the subtle satire of the Addams family since their inception: even though they're a creepy, weird, ugly family of misfits and freaks, they're more happy, emotionally stable and functional than even most other TV families.
This is part of why the Broadway musical fell flat. In it, the Addams are just a normal, dysfunctional, wreck.
Morticia is freaking out about aging and become unattractive to her husband.
The grandmother is just your run-of-the-mill pot-smoking senile grandparent.
Pugsley, other than having a masochistic streak, is just a boy hung up on the fact that if his big sister gets married he won't have her around to play with anymore.
Lurch is comic relief.
Fester, while featuring in one of the better songs, is a being of "no specific sexuality" straight out of tumblr, who is in love with the moon (seriously).
Gomez, instead of having a rich history of eccentric Addams ancestors, seems to have a history of lies he makes up on the spot, and is your standard flustered husband trying to cope with his wife's mood swings and unreasonable behavior.
Wednesday is basically just an edgy young adult who is in love with a boy who her family doesn't like, and whose family doesn't like hers. Ironically, this makes her depiction the closest to canon, since (other than the live action movie ver.) she's always been the most normal Addams. She's basically the Marylin Munster of the group, except that she still visually matches her family and has some creepy interests.
This, her having one of the catchiest songs, and Krysta Rodriguez being kind of a cutie pie made her the best character.
Also, most of the songs sucked. Good songs are sort of critical for a musical. Disappointingly, while Bebe Neuwirth looked the part of Morticia, she just didn't seem to fit in that role… though it's possible that the bad story is more to blame than her. The rest were… meh.
Oh, and their mansion is inexplicably in the center of Central Park, because lolsorandom!

Funny enough, I was recently involved in a highschool production of the Broadway musical, and I can confirm that all of this is true.
On top of lacking the core familial elements and having the typical Highschool actor issues, the play is an awful way to introduce people to the Addams family. The script assumes that the audience will be familiar with all the little quirks and personality traits of each character, so there's very little in the way of exposition and explanations. A lot of time is spent on the problems that Wednesday's boyfriend's family has, the whole sub plot with Fester and the moon feels tacked on and wasteful, and Wednesday being mad at her family for being bad at pretending to be "normal" in front of their guests is kind of ludicrous.

Most of that doesn't sound too bad. Even functional families have problems - heck, if everything was perfect there'd hardly be a plot. But I guess if the musical didn't capture the core bond/happiness of the family I could see how it might fuck it up.
>Wednesday was always the most normal
Outwardly, anyway. Inside, she's always been an Addams.
>Fester's sexuality
I really don't need to know anything about that. Please, god, don't tell me about what, when or how Fester fucks. The idea of him being completely asexual is only mildly comforting as is.

Technically in the original series, the films and the cartoon, Fester is portrayed as an incredibly desperate basement-dwelling-tier mega virgin, although frankly, I prefer they just not even talk about what he fucks in this day and age since they'll find someway to tumblrfy him.

When an Addams gets bent out of shape, its over weird shit, like Gomez wigging out that his son suddenly turned into a blond Kewpie doll instead of a mustachioed freak.
In the musical, they fret about mundane shit like growing old.
Beyond just being lame, it breaks character. Kind of like how Cursed Child had Harry Potter being afraid of pigeons (because lolsorandom) and telling his boy that sometimes he wished he wasn't his son. Fucking what?
