To be fair, it's hard to really replicate all the emotional twists and turns in It Hurts, so I can see them trying to take this one in a different direction. I'm still anticipating some unexpected things to happen down the road, but I can't say I know for sure what that might be. There's already mythical creatures and things openly existing in this version of reality, so it would have be a different kind of twist.

Yeah, I can see how some can say that the humor is lolsorandumb, but frankly this is a different beast entirely. The best way I can describe it is that most comics that use "random humor" are doing so in an attempt to cover up their failures at making a comic. It Hurt's on the other hand is the opposite, it's fundamentally a bizarro world that's desperately attempting to have a plot in spite of itself, which somehow makes it all the more authentic. Also the shit is genuinely funny.

This isn't even scientifically accurate with a base level of understanding of sleep. Your brain is still functioning when you sleep, it only stops doing so when you or parts of you die. You are still "conscious" in a sense, as in your memory and senses are distorted. I hate all of these armchair reddit-tier "scientists" who fucking repeat an EXTREMELY COMMON misconception when trying to sound cool and deep.
Your brain is "on" from the moment you are born to the moment you die. It never turns completely "off" unless you are actually in the chemical process of death - which is why people who are declared medically "dead" and later revived often have irreversible brain damage - the parts they lost are the parts that turned "off" completely.
Your "consciousness" (senses, memory, cognition) is only distorted, you are never "truly" unconscious unless your brain is 100% destroyed. Several allusions were made to Charlotte's Web in It Hurts, especially near the end.
Aurora was compared to Charlotte and how both of them gave of themselves to others, asking nothing in return and were not rewarded. IIRC it was also implied that Charlotte was happy just making other people happy.
Aurora found happiness even after Pasq broke up with her and found purpose in helping people, in fact, out of all the girls in Pasq's life, he probably spend the least amount of screen time with her.

In the new universe nuPasq has done just that.

So what made IH so great? Plenty of other series have starred a character that makes constant "nerd-humor" gags, even wrapping them in post-ironic "cringe" humor or making the character "really depressed yo ;_;", but it really has only been IH to pull it off. Obviously, a bit part of it is the perfect portrayal of best friends, but I think the thing that really cemented it was the sincerity. The comic felt like something the author wanted to make regardless of if there was a crowd who got the joke. Even if it's wrapped in dumb, sarcastic, self-descriptive humor, you get the distinct feeling that the events were part of a vision.
PFM doesn't quite hit me the same way. It's not bad, in fact I still enjoy it a lot, but that charm isn't always there. Could just be the vision no longer being unified. Still gonna keep reading, at least as long as it maintains some of that feeling.

It Hurts! never once lied about what it was and what it wanted to be. It was badly drawn, childishly written, edgy, random, often dumb, but because it was done in earnest, each joke, each slapstick, each surprise felt powerful.
Because if someone ugly cries, as long as I think their tears are true, I will feel sad. If I see someone beautiful cry, and assume they're fake, I won't share any of their sadness.
Art is about emotions. If the creator makes me think they're the real ones they do have, I'll find myself all the same.
I do agree that so far Please forgive me is fine but nothing special; but again, it feels like a simple fun little story and not like some kinda statement, so I'm enjoying it a lot still. I'd hope for a bit more "newness".

Not everybody will just gloss over the thing, think its shitty and walk away.
At least one person is going to need to read the webcomic in the first place to deem it as shitty, and apparently a lot of people read the webcomic first, and often the whole way before getting an opinion on it. Hence you might find a lot of people dissing the concerned webcomic in forums or the comment section of the website the comic is hosted on.
If the material is bad or worth of ridicule in the public eye or at least a section of it, there is a chance that these people will verbally express their opinions. Whether that is right or wrong can be debated by using points from their arguments, not by saying "If you don't like it don't read it." It is a sign of blind admiration for the material and refusal of hearing the other side.
