I'm going to go through in chronological order, series by series, and share Ricardo Delgado's Age of Reptiles in its entirety. This dinosaur comic is one of Dark Horse's hidden gems, they didn't just make great Star Wars comics, they also produced plenty of original content worth reading. The really neat thing about Age of Reptiles is that there is no dialogue, it's all visual storytelling.
Starting with,
Tribal Warfare
Which was originally just titled Age of Reptiles, and got its subtitle when collected for trade paperback.
Art is of course by Delgado, and colors are by James Sinclair.

This shit's great. I haven't read anything from Dark Horse as of late though. Last thing I recall was some forgettable comic that included Evan Dorkin's last Eltingville strip which was pozzed as all fuck and basically eliminated all the likeability or humor the strips once had for the sake of Dorkin preaching to the audience about how he created the comic as a "hate letter" to bigoted fans, despite that back in the 90s he said he created the strips as a parody of fandoms with the characters being based on himself and his friends growing up. It was just irksome. Although that's not why I stopped reading Dark Horse, I just found a treasure trove of ancient comics online so I've just been reading that for years now. Anyway, does Dark Horse still stand above the rest or have they fallen to the same flaws as the Big Two?

They are in a really odd spot right now, and overall quality is comparable to big two's and other indie publishers. They lost a lot of cash cows in 2018. Conan went to Marvel, Buffy to IDW, years prior to that they lost Star Wars, and this past week Usagi Yojimbo will be published by IDW. There were also rumors of Dark Horse being in trouble, minor controversy about Dark Horse's insurance policy not covering transsexuals, and investment from Chinese firms. All of this does not sound too good, epically if Fox pulls the plug on Alien and Predator comics, like they did with Buffy.
As far as comics themselves go, they are publishing a lot of licensed stuff, especially based around video games. Out of indie titles, a lot of it is crap, but there are a few good books. Resident Alien is probably the best one out of their current series, Black Hammer is decent, and Mignolaverse is more or less as good as it always used to be.
They are also publishing Fight Club 2 and 3, but they are mainly just Palahniuk fucking around and having fun. Fight Club comics are interesting and not bad. Palahniuk, a novelist, has a better grasp on writing for comics than many people who have been writing them for years.
Dark Horse is above Marvel in quality, but not better than DC or other indie publishers.
Europa comics publishes the best quality comics on average, but that's mainly because they just take some of the better of what European market has to offer and they just translate that to English.

It's funny that a novelist is able to do comics well. A lot of the time when you get one doing comics they don't seem to transition well. Makes me a bit sad since Darkhorse usually seemed pretty good.
