It seems you left out the most important part.

Im not gonna lie. Posting on /ck/ for years has made me want to try ketchup on steak, but I always forget about it when I cook one at home, and its not something Id do in public because of people judging me.
I mean, its just a sauce. Its probably ok if you get a dry overcooked steak and you just wanna add something.
Im gonna do it. Im gonna fucking eat a steak with ketchup one of these days.
Thanks for reminding me to try new things, /ck/

Nope, nothing wrong with that.
What went wrong, is the cooking of the steak. It should be perfectly fine on its own.
If you need to add ketchup, whoever cooked the steak shouldn't be allowed to in the future.

Well, ok, if that's what you want…
But ketchup works better as a marinade with steak. Particularly cheap steak.

Really, fag?
Just marinate a steak in two parts BBQ one part Tabasco for at least 6 hours.
You'll thank me later.

There is laterally nothing wrong with putting ketchup next to steak

You're right. It's only laterally wrong if the ketchup ended up ON the steak.

It really depends on the steak.
Get a family steak, like a tri-tip, brush on the ketchup two or three times midway through… yeah, it could work.
Here's the kicker: not all ketchups are equivalent.
Hunt's is a reasonable choice for this. Red Gold would work. Heinz is a definite no. They have different flavor profiles.

Plain, fat-free Greek yogurt is far superior to sour cream.

Fat free dairy of any sort of shit but you might as well not eat yogurt if you're getting it fat free.
