Help me, /ck/. I just got my first big boy job in the city, and I've never worked so far away from my home that I had to bring my own lunch every day. I could go to all the restaurants and cafes nearby, but that shit gets expensive quick.
As someone who hasn't packed a lunch since middle school, what the fuck can I whip up that would be ideal for munching on in the break room? Chicken and rice and cucumbers can only last a man so long.

Well, dinner leftovers and sandwiches are pretty common…
Don't forget fruit. A number of office types I worked with brought in apples, oranges and the like and had a small cutting board and a fruit knife so they could slice them up neatly.
I would look at salads from time to time; vegetables can be cut up in advance reasonably, but find a way to pack the dressing separately so it doesn't sog nasty-like.
The breakroom that only has a microwave is a great sadness. Last place I worked, we had microwaves, a toaster, a pizza oven, AND A PROPANE GRILL outside that anyone was welcome to fire up whenever to cook whatever (not just for picnics). Now, it's mostly just microwaves. Plan your meals based on availability of refrigeration and heating.
…and keep a stash of oatmeal, cup-of-soup packets, granola bars, and other nonperishables hidden away. Crunchy granola bars are pretty good with peanut butter smeared on them. Basically, have some stuff on hand so that if you've forgotten to pack something you're not limited to whatever the vending machines aren't sold out of.

If you have a microwave just go with stews. Most (except the fish ones) preserve for a few days and they often taste better the next day anyway.
Here's some examples: http://www.greatbritishchefs.com/search?search=stew

Then there's http://www.bonappetit.com/?s=stew&fq=&global-search-submit=submit
There's just too much to mention, from Venetian duck ragu to chili con carne, from boeuf Bourgignon to the Napels Genovese. Pakistan does fantastic stuff with chic peas, Indian cuisine is full of stews as well. If you live up north look for hutsepot for winter.

I pack the following in my lunch every day:
Three poached eggs, eaten before I clock in.
1-1/2 cup unpopped kernels, along with a hot-air popper. (Put popcorn kernels in popper, stick in microwave, done.)
Couple slices of my homemade bread. (High protein, fluffy and tasty enough that it doesn't need peanut butter or anything else.)
Protein powder with raw cacao, stevia, and salt. I add skim milk and chug right after clocking out.

Almost forgot:
Small Tupp with oats+stevia+cacao, just in case I get hungry after eating everything else.

Leftovers are disgusting. God has cursed me with a tongue that can barely tolerate reheated food. How do people eat frozen dinners every day?

Leftovers can be good if you cook them in creative ways. Don't just dump that shit in a microwave and eat it, add ingredients and turn it into something else.

Get an insulated lunchbox/bento box and a slow cooker.
Overnight you can make rice or pulled pork or stew in the slow cooker, then it is ready when you are packing lunch in the morning.
