I'm a protestant.

I've been thinking about buying something like the pic. Idk why catholics always wear them but I have a hunch that having one on my chest will remind me to stay on the straight and narrow. Does anyone with firsthand experience know if it will help?

Also, where can i buy one? I plan on hiding it from my family as they generally are against this sort of thing. i don't want one made from a precious metal. I also would to prefer to buy one made in america but i will settle for anything made in a country that doesn't persecute christians.

Is your family iconoclast? I don't think it's difficult to get one like that, I could probably find one in a local catholic parish.

>Idk why catholics always wear them

Typically, Catholic laity wear the crucifix (cross with Christ's body) rather than just the cross, the latter of which is more common among Protestants. I own only one cross necklace (wooden cross on a black braid), which I purchased as a Protestant and seldom wear today. I'll probably get a crucifix necklace before long, as Christ crucified is a powerful image, but for now I've been more focused on living my Faith than simply wearing it.

>I have a hunch that having one on my chest will remind me to stay on the straight and narrow. Does anyone with firsthand experience know if it will help?

It has occasionally served as a reminder, however it has not kept me from committing grave sin in the past, which then led to feelings of unworthiness while wearing one. So, do not expect it to keep you from sinning… Personally, I would advise you to first form a strong prayer life and keep yourself busy with a day-to-day, Christ-centered routine - once your focus is truly on Christ and not the things of this world, living according to His will and not that of flesh, then I would don the cross or crucifix and let it inspire you to sin no more and avoid whatever leads you to sin.

<in that case, why not wear one right away?

As I said before, in my personal experience, I felt like I was doing a disservice to Christ by wearing the cross while committing grave sin, week after week, too weak-willed and immature in my Faith to repent. But, that's just my personal take on it. I'm in a better place now and, now that you mention it, may just have to buy one myself now.

No catholic would wear that as it is a cross without the Body of Christ. The Cross is the metaphysical representation of human actual sin in this world. With the Body of Christ, the corpus, it symbolizes the Holy Sacrifice of our Lord and Our God on the cross to redeem us of our actual sins.

How can you reject Christ and wear the symbol of sin? That''s such a protestant thing to do.

>I could probably find one in a local catholic parish.

In a Novus Ordo parish, maybe.

>>852647

This, really.

Catholics are supposed to wear something to show our faith, be it ashes on Ash Wednesday or a crucifix.

Are you so sure about that? Bishops wear crosses without Christ's body, what gives? And I'm not talking about NO bishops.

The FSSP doesn't have bishops.

Please show proof of a SSPX or SSPV bishop wearing a cross without the Body of Christ.

I have been rededicating myself over the last few weeks.

You said you still committed grave sin while wearing one. Do you think that's because you became used to wearing it? Would the outcome have been any different if you only put it on when you felt temptation? I'm thinking about putting one on when I feel angry or edgy in an attempt to tame my tongue.

also, no offense to you catho bros but I would rather give money to a protestant cause especially with the current pope and all.

Done.

Your argument is silly.

Crucifixes are a latin thing, but the preference for crosses or crucifixes doesn't carry canonical significance.

I think it's great for all christians regardless of direction to wear a cross like this. It is a universal Christian symbol. I know plenty of protestant people who wear them and I am also protestant.

You could go with silver, it won't give you allergic reactions and looks good.

They have them here for example:

mmm I don't buy it.

1, why would he choose to clip it on with the back of the crucifix forward?

2, the extremities on the back of the crucifix on the right are undecorated while the whole of the left cross is decorated.

3, you can't just claim that every cross is actually just a crucifix flipped around.

why don't you show us some authority agreeing with you rather than your speculations. Why don't the priests draw a crucifix on your forehead? it can be done easily with a stamp

Regardless of if you care or not, he's right.

You dont have any canon or other rule saying a pectoral cross has to be a pectoral crucifix.
